I've always thought there are 2 things that indicate whether or not we'll do well in a season. 1 being winning away at perth, and the other being winning away at wellington

InMyHeart
Anyone else not rate Wellington.... I actually dont rate them, Only thing that worries me is the long shots that redders cannot handle.... We should definitely score 2 or 3 in this fixture

I actually dont rate them, Only thing that worries me is the long shots that redders cannot handle.... We should definitely score 2 or 3 in this fixture Hmmm, the Nux have only lost twice at home this season and both against Roar losing 2:1. I say ignore the Nux at your peril. Merrick has then ticking over nicely. Having said that our lads are on a roll and wouldn't be surprised if we pulled a win out of the bag
hakz7
Another 2-1 win for us I think. Hopefully Engelaar is very fit as he'll be able to boss the midfield. Any word on if Kewell will be right to start? If he doesn't I'd love Mauk to start again. He'd have plenty of confidence.
Kiro Kompiro
This is one tough match. Nix playing well and we really don't do well against them. 1-1.
wombegongal
I think we will win this one. JVS is a more tactically switched on coach than Merrick for mine and I suspect that might be the difference in the end.
Sash
Perth travel to play Sydney on Saturday night. How they play might give us an idea if the Albury game has taken a toll on the sides this week. At this stage, I'll probably take a draw. Alexxandro
I don't know where people's relaxed confidence comes from. Despite our improvement in form we have not beaten any of the top teams and this is in Wellington against one of the in form teams and it's a week after the game from hell. A win would be massive . NewConvert
For me WP have players that can do something creative with very little room to move eg Hernandez, Steymsugens. Can Hoffman cope with these types of players? This will be a big test for the back four to be able to shut them down effectively. And lets not forget that they can also score from a distance. Their defence has stopped leaking as well. Heart will have Engelaar back and hopefully we'll see 90 minutes of him in the mid-field. But the most exciting prospect for me will be the tactical battle between JVS and Merrick. The Heart have got some justifiable confidence so for me this game will be a marker of how far the team has progressed and how far they have to go. kingofhearts
The key to this game will be shutting down Hernandez. Just like we did against Sydney and ADP. we just have to make sure we give him absolutely zero room to operate. This is where a player like Germano is great where you can just tell him to hound hernandez all day and he'll do it.

jw1739
Given that we haven't beaten this mob since December 2011 this match is a key indicator for us. 1) Are we really able to go out there and win an away match (last week's game was a "home" regional match, not an away match); and 2) has JvS really turned things around for us? Red or Dead
Aye, having Germano to free Mass further up the park is a godsend. Or the other way around - Germano has a better scoring (and assist) record than Murdocca so would prefer Germano further up the park. Defibrillator
Aye, having Germano to free Mass further up the park is a godsend.Or the other way around - Germano has a better scoring (and assist) record than Murdocca so would prefer Germano further up the park.If you watch the recent Sydney game closely, both of them shut ADP down together. It was really inspiring to watch how disciplined the two of them were and how brilliantly they communicated with each other. At all times during the game one of them tracked ADP and the other knew when it was his time to go. They alternated quite often depending on positioning and energy - Germano was only recently back at the time and the shift he put in was above and beyond what I expected he could do. If we could emulate this on the weekend we'd go a long way to shutting them down.
Murfy1
I fairly confident that we can win this because I just don't think Wellington are an especially fearsome opponent. They took 11 games to get their first win, and had 6 losses over the first 10 games, they are just 6th now (3 points above the Jets who are 9th, and 8 points above us), I still believe they have a pretty weak squad (who pretty much have been playing to the best of their abilities) and I also think the only stunning result of theirs was the win against WSW (otherwise, the wins they have chalked up include games against Sydney, the Jets and Heart under JA). Whilst Heart are going from strength to strength under JVS. Under JVS our record is D, L, W, D, W, W, confidence will be high after beating Perth (a bogey side for us) in tough conditions interstate in Albury, we also won without talisman Kewell on the pitch, Engelaar will return for this match and we have a better squad than Wellington IMO. We have 2 matches remaining against Wellington (1 away, 1 at AAMI), and both are important to move up the ladder, and both are winnable. Even if we just beat Wellington at AAMI and draw this weekend, we'll be in fairly good shape, but if we win both games we'll have great chances to move up the ladder. With the team we have, the coach we have and our good form, I'm confident we can win this match.
