I guess we will differ in our opinion of how he is managed during this stage if that's the case because both our opinions are subjective. My stance is, regardless of the minutes he's played overseas, there is grounds that based on his international experience and national duties he deserves some perseverance after the team has won two of four league games and progressed through the ffa cup games, one in which he scored. I think that my expectations were for Leckie to walk into the team seamlessly (or close enough) and that has not occurred. How he is managed and how he develops is part of what is being debated. So I'm taking the perspective of what Leckie's reputation is vs what I am seeing in the pitch and then trying to reconcile the two. He certainly does deserve minutes but at the moment I wonder whether he would be better off coming on as a sub rather than starting. And all of the players deserve perseverance with, specially if they are doing or trying very hard to do what it is being asked of them. However the weekly selection is where the coaching team needs to be clinical.

Perhaps after the Atkinson goal last game, we may see Leckie come out the bench, although I doubt it going into the derby. But imo I would expect Leckie to have a big impact this coming Saturday. He doesn't deserve to be dropped but im expecting an excellent performance from him.

I'm also expecting to be playing a team that wants to win as opposed not lose. All games so far have been against predominantly teams set up to nullify us, as opposed to playing their own game. The opposition this weekend will 100% be going in thinking they can win. This of course is a direct result of of last season and now being champs. Now the real question is how do we adapt long term. I've never been more confident than this week.

This is exactly what I thought, I don't think we have played bad at all we have just got up against teams who play negative football, the one game we were given space was against Adelaide and we were the better team, the two goals Adelaide scored was an unfortunate rebound and a mistake which can be easily removed. Western United just capitalised on one of the few chances they had.
belaguttman
It's not that we've played badly, we have created many chances, it's just that last season we werte very good at converting our chances, so far this season, we aren't. If you look at our goal difference last season we converted and scored regularly despite conceding quite a few goals. This season we continue to concede but just aren't converting our chances

We were also in 9th position a third of the way through last season as well.
The Aardvark
I think it's basically just that Maclaren is not in form atm. Our wingers are still producing the goods, our midfield still drives us forward and Metcalfe is a bigger threat than ever, and our defenders still move the ball well. Maclaren typically scores something like 2 goals for every 3 games, and him being largely a non factor so far has been the biggest issue we have faced imo. That’s it, he’s the key - most fans don’t like talking about it unfortunately. Not just scoring goals but fieldplay has also dropped a level. Outsiders would not pick JMAC as one the highest paid player in league watching these early games. Get JMAC going and success will come! Saying all this, we have also shown we can win games without him. Edited December 14, 2021 by Mr MO
