Any signing would have to be managed appropriately so as to allow the squad inc NYL as much access on the training track to his experience and knowledge as possible.

If he just comes to play ten games then fuck off, that would not be ideal.

MV fans can scoff at our youth policy, but it's not just about how many U23s play 1st XI football. There's a lot to get right out side of match days, that's why we call it 'development'.

I think Beckham would bring a lot to Heart, not only because he is probably the 2nd most well known football player in the world, but because he still has that amazing range of passing and accuracy. Yes he's old but he can still offer us a lot. Question is, where do we put him?

Let's be honest. The first 2 will sell out and then we'll see a steady decline.

A steady decline to 16-20k (probably at worst)?

Only 10 thousand more then we'd get otherwise.

... If this goes no where the club once again will use the 'not interested but the free publicity is great' just like with Ronaldo, Ruud VN, Kewell, Gameiro, Owen & whoever else.

It'd be great to see a free kick not fly over the bar!

The club has never said they won't sign a marquee. They just won't sign one for the sake of having a marquee. They'll sign one if they think the player will have the right impact both on and off the pitch.

And Beckham certainly does. Would be amazing if it happens.

Melbourne Heart pumped on David Beckham signature

David Davutovic

Herald Sun

November 17, 201212:00AM

MELBOURNE Heart has officially expressed interest in global superstar David Beckham, who is considering making Australia home

Heart and Perth Glory have written letters inquiring about Beckham's services.

The 37-year-old's LA Galaxy contract expires on December 1, when he is due to play the MLS final.

It's understood Australian-based agent Lou Sticca, who's brought Beckham's Galaxy to Australia three times since 2007 -- including Melbourne last December -- has been in regular contact with Beckham's management team, 19 Entertainment, in the past fortnight.

The Herald Sun understands Melbourne Victory coach Ange Postecoglou ruled out an approach for Beckham.

Heart chief executive Scott Munn confirmed the club's interest and said it has crunched some marquee numbers in light of discussions with Michael Owen and more recently German international Michael Ballack.

"We are certainly interested, we've expressed interest to his management and requested more information and I'm sure there will be conversations held in the coming days," Munn said yesterday.

"The communication we've had suggests he (Beckham) is open to both guest (up to 10 games) and longer-term deals, but we'd be more interested in a longer-term deal.

"David Beckham is the biggest name in football and one of the biggest sportsmen in the world, I think he could have a great impact on our young players.

"If we could bring him to Australia, we would be acting irresponsibly if we didn't pursue it."

Perth Glory chief executive Paul Kelly has urged Beckham not to discount Perth as a possible new home.

"I don't know how serious he is, but if you go back to the comments he's made over the last few years about Australia and the times he's been out here, he's been very, very positive," Kelly said.

Beckham's former Manchester United teammate Mark Bosnich said Australia has made a good impression on Beckham and A-League coaches shouldn't be scared.

"He has loved it every time he has visited these shores, he is impressed with the standard of our league and he knows Asia is the future of football," Bosnich said.

"I would stress to A-League coaches that they shouldn't be intimidated by Beckham's presence in the dressing room. Yes, he is the biggest name in world sport, but he is also as hard-working and humble a player as you'll ever meet in any league anywhere in the world."

Beckham remains a key member of the Galaxy squad, which includes former Leeds and Tottenham striker Robbie Keane and US star Landon Donovan.

Beckham, who signed from Real Madrid in 2007, has made 28 appearances this season, starting in 27 of them, and has scored seven goals.

The former Manchester United, and AC Milan winger represented England 115 times.

I was encouraged by this quote from Scott Munn from "The Age Online" which would indicate that Heart would be interested in signing a marquee if they were to offer more than just playing for a cheque.

Heart CEO Scott Munn confirmed on Friday afternoon that he and his team’s football operations manager John Didulica had workshopped the idea of making an approach to the ex-Manchester United and AC Milan midfielder.

<iframe id="dcAd-1-4" src="http://ad-apac.doubleclick.net/adi/onl.age.sport/sport/soccer;cat=sport;ctype=article;cat1=soccer;pos=3;sz=300x250;tile=4;ord=8.2905699E7?" width='300' height='250' scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0"> </iframe

But, Heart want Beckham for more than a guest stint, with Munn suggesting that if a deal could be structured which would give the superstar "skin in the Australian game" it might prove more attractive for the 37-year-old than just a ten-game guest player stint.

"We discussed it enough to mention it to the board. Obviously finance is a big issue, but if you look at the way he structured his deals in the US its not the typical marquee player getting a very large cheque and playing for a season or two and then disappearing.

"We could look at equity and profit sharing, or at least the opportunity for him to take a slice of the ownership. Beckham has shown in the past that he is interested in building a legacy and leaving something behind."
