Tesla
After reading the source in Serbian, and thinking a little bit, pretty sure what was aid is along the lines of The transfer was meant to be 650k euros but the players agent brokered a deal which included a sell on fee of 25% for Melbourne Heart as well as the 350k euros. At least I hope that is correct. Edited June 20, 2012 by Tesla
Sash
That sounds alright. I'd rather take the punt on the 25% later than the extra 300k euros now. Good luck Eli!

heart_fan10
if babalj gets sold for example 8mill, heart will get 25% of that transfer fee. but, if he was to get sold on again for 15mill, would the club still get 25% of that transfer fee as well? or do we only get the 25% of the first transfer fee? Think of it as us owning 25% of his contract we only cash in when we relinquish that 25%. We could still not cash in on his first transfer and wait for the next transfer, assuming he didnt move to a league that prohibits third party ownership like the premier league. Tesla
Think of it as us owning 25% of his contract we only cash in when we relinquish that 25%. We could still not cash in on his first transfer and wait for the next transfer, assuming he didnt move to a league that prohibits third party ownership like the premier league. That is not how it works. We get 25% of his next transfer, but if Red Star get a 10% of the one after that than we should get 2.5% (10% of 25%) of that transfer. Eg, if Palermo come and buy Babalj for 5mil euros and 10% of his next transfer, we get 1.25mil (for our 25% sell on clause). Then if Inter buy him from Palermo for 20mil, Red Star are owed 2mil for their 10%, but then they need to give us 25% of that 2mil, so we get another 500k. And it has nothing to do with 3rd party ownership. Sell on fee is a clause in the transfer agreement, we dont own anything anymore, they are just obliged to pay us 25% of next transfer. The 'Agency' Must be for when Heart folds, Sidwell can pocket the 25% of his €15m fee. The 'agency' is his management agency, and it just said they thank them for helping in the negotiation. Popular Post ToniDelijeSever
http://www.redstarbelgrade.info/redstarbelgrade-2/intervju/1173-rsb-intervju-eli-babalj.html RSB INTERVIEW : ELI BABALJ New Red Star striker have said in an interview to our website that he can't wait to play in front of full capacity ground! You were born in Sarajevo. Many fans are interested in stories about your family history, and there is also a dilemma about your name - is it Eli or Ilija? For the last time,my name is Eli,and I don't know where this information about my name being Ilija came from? Yes,I was born in Sarajevo, seven days before baricades have been set. Then we ran away to Germany, where I had been for three years, and then we went to Perth, back to 1995. Tell us something about your first football steps. First I had start playing basketball, when I was about five years old. I am playing football since I was seven. One day I've been watching football on TV,when Inter Milan game has been shown. In that time,Ronaldo was still playing for them, and since the moment I saw him,I was thrilled. I told my dad that I want to be like him. Ronaldo is my idol since I was a child, and then I began to play for a local football club. Have you been striker from the very beginning? Yes,yes. Like Ronaldo (laughter). Can you tell us more about Red Star's tour in Australia, back in 2001? In that time,I couldn't believe that Red Star is coming to Perth. We have welcomed them at the airport, along with many people. I've followed every single training. On their way out from Australia, there were only man who brought them here,my dad and me. I was with them the whole time. It was such a good generation: Boskovic,Drulic,Pjanovic,Jelic... Who was your favorite player from that generation? Boskovic. And Drulic as well, and I've also met Branko Jelic, who later came to Australia to play for one club. How did you start your career in professional football? I was in Australian Institute of Sport for one year. Actually, for 14 months. You live there, train,go to school, and then, back in 2009. I signed a contract with Melbourne Heart, and now here at Red Star. Can you describe that AIS for us? Oh,it's a great institution, well done for founding it! They did it for Olympic games. It's not just football,it's also connected to swimming,wrestling,boxing...everything. It was a great honour to join that institute, because there is a lot Australian sport players who made a great careers in Europe, that were members of AIS. It was a good time there for me. How much is Australian football physically hard? It is very exhausting,as it plays during the summer. Also, you must travel to some cities for 3-4 hours when you play away fixtures. League is high-quality and it is going up every season. You can see how many quality players are coming to play in Australia. Robbie Fowler this year,Kewell before him,... How was your relationship with other Balkan-born Australian player, like Josip Skoko and Mate Dugandzic? Skoko is a fantastic player. I hang out with him a lot,and he really helped me. There were few Croats too, they are all great lads and they all helped me a lot. Best player of A-League? Didn't get that award. It was organized by tele-voting. I had a great season, and after all,I signed for Red Star. That says it all,it was a great year for me. Few members of our forum went to Melbourne Heart fans forum in order to hear something about you. They got best words, and many Melbourne fans were sad to see you go. What can you say about your relationship with them, are they also football fanatics? I can't believe they went to MH forum (laughter). I had a good relationship with them. Club is founded only few years ago,so it's not easy to have so many fans. We've been playing in front of an average attendance of 17,000 people. When it was hard for us,or when we were playing against our arch rivals, they would come in big number to support us. Fans on their forum also said that you are very combative player, and also never blame your team-mates for bad moves or missed chances. Can we expect something like that from you in Red Star? That's it. Nothing's gonna change. I just want to win, especially because we didn't take the Championship title in five years. That's the first objective, and I'm always gonna give my best to help the team and make the good result. You're first match is probably going to be in Europa League qualifications,in front of a full stadium. What do you expect from the first match? I watched these games on TV. I can't wait to play. Sure,I'm gonna look around when I went out from the tunnel. But,when the game start,I hope I'll concentrate on the pitch. I can only imagine how is like to be an opposite player in front of our full stadium. How did you feel when Red Star called you? Oh,you couldn't believe! Immediately, news were full of headlines about me joining Red Star, even it was far from over. My friends and family were calling me to check. At the end,it all went ok,and I'm happy to be here. Did you talk to Robbie (Robert Prosinecki,RSB head coach) before you signed a contract? Yes,he called me while I was at Perth. After that conversation, there were no other options for me. Robbie really made my decision a lot easier. What are your best football skills? I have a good height, and I have a good heading. All people think that heading is all I can do because I'm tall. But,I best play with a ball in my feet. My right leg is stronger, but left is not only for walking,I can shoot with it if I have a chance. What in your game would you want do fix the most? I haven't been doing anything for couple of weeks,so I just want to train well and go back in match condition. Have you ever watched Delije on youtube? About a million times. Do you have a favorite song? "Dobro znaj". Do you know who is Bata Djora, man who brought decadent football in Serbia. And do you know that most of Serbian teams are playing ultra-defensive football and not having any ambition of going to attack stronger teams? It is very common against Red Star. Do you think you can find a solution to score when you must break an 11-men defence? Never heard about him,but I noticed on TV that Serbian football is like that. We'll just see do I have a solution. We have a good coach,he is an expert and he will make a tactic that is going to help us break through. It is even better to play against defensive teams, because we only need one good chance for 90 minutes that you must make to score and win the game. Which formation was the most common for your teams in Australia? 4-3-3,like Red Star. I can play 4-4-2 with no problems, but last few years my coaches were Dutch,so we played 4-3-3. We spotted this picture on the internet, can you describe it? Oh,that wasn't started by me. I was only defending my team-mate. This guy hooked-up something so I had to react. You must help your team mate. Can we expect from you to react like this in derby games? If something hooks up,I'm there! But,I won't be stupid enough to get a red card and leave my team mates alone. Is it true that Partizan asked you to sign for them? I wouldn't even think to come there. Partizan?! No way! What do you think about your new team mates? They are all great lads, about my age and young players, which is good. Five of them are playing for national team. I didn't train with Evandro yet,but I watched him on TV,he is a fantastic player! Did you think about playing for Serbia? No,I'm not thinking about it,I'm thinking only about Red Star.

marteaux
Great interview - but I think the part about him not blaming other players was lost in translation. Countless times he would lose his shit at Rutger and Behich for dodgy crosses and passes. Although this probably wasnt a bad thing on hindsight. The best should expect the best really. Will miss the grumpy number '9' for the goals and laughs he provided. No longer will we say who is the next Sibon, but who is the next Babalj.

heart_fan10
FWIW red star play this week in a Europa League round 2 qualifier against 'Naftan' which is a team in Belarus. This first leg will be played in Belarus on the 19th, (this friday melbourne time) and the second leg is on the 26th in belgrade (27th melbourne time). It'll be interesting to see if babalj gets a start (which i think he will), and if he will score.

Murfy1
Update on Babalj from a Serbian article published a few hours ago today (the text has been translated by google): 22.07.2012 07:15 Star solve the burning problem Red Star and after dvomeča the Vitebsk should have less problem on the agenda. A new striker to the club "Maracana", Eli Babalj, should acquire the right to play the first game against Omonia, which is scheduled for second August. According to Sport, red-white government has provided money for the second installment of compensation which are becoming Melbourne Hart, Australian club from which Babalj arrived in Compton. If all goes as planned, the money will be paid early next week, then make all the necessary documents should reach the "Marakana", which will also be the end of bureaucratic problem. Besides all this, Babalj has not yet reached the required level of physical fitness, but the fact is already working, so the fans in red and white young striker should see in action against The Cypriots. Star's opponent in the second qualifying rounds, Belarusian BATE, sent a complaint to UEFA in the Finnish trial the arbitrator in the first game. Murfy1
Looks like Babalj will be able to play for Red Star soon enough. I can sort of understand why Heart have been slow to make all the signings for next season, with all these complications surrounding Babalj and seemingly Curtis Good too. jw1739
Presumably these transfers have to be signed off by all parties concerned, so if Red Star reneges on the down payment then Eli's registration with that club does not go though and technically he remains a Heart player. Not a good situation. It was reported somewhere that Red Star are cash-strapped.

Btw he is still an MHFC player as he still hasn't been transferred due to the full fee not being received as yet. That would be a terrible outcome for us IMO. We've signed two strikers and we're developing Walker, and we're possibly making decisions which rely on the money coming in. Or at least we can't make those decisions until it arrives. And it sounds like we're still paying Eli's wages. Pay up! Edited August 8, 2012 by Sash

Tesla
Its pretty shit actually. We wouldnt pay 200k or whatever half his transfer fee even for Shane Smeltz, or even a 19 year with Smeltz's skill level, so its like we are overpaying for a guy we dont need in our squad. Now that my suspicions about Tadic's english ability are confirmed, it is inevitable that he will score at least a goal a game so Babalj might not get much game time. And remember this is coming from probably Babalj's biggest backer while he was here.
