At worst, his wealth is a complete fluke. Either way, it's obviously lead to him severely overrating his ability as a businessman, or as anything really, and he is too delusional to realise that he has no fucking clue what he is doing. Trump deserves a bit more credit, but at the same time when someone has his track record in regard to bankruptcy etc, seems to me they're just gambling with money that's been loaned to them more than anything else. Either way, both their abilities as a businessman, let alone as a politician, are highly suspect. Which makes it hilarious when all the rednecks that support Trump state his business ability as one of the reasons they're voting for him. Actually it might work out, probably a good call for the US to default on all it's debt. Just checked Clive Palmer's wikipedia entry and I was not aware that his old man started the old 3AK. Now IIRC Palmer made his money in real estate in the Gold Coast and then retired. He then came out of retirement to go into mining, resorts and eventually politics. I always thought that he went into politics to try and destroy Newman and now that Newman is gone his whole reason for being in politics has dissipated. I have no idea why Newman and Palmer fell out but whatever it was it certainly has repercussions. As for Trump I view him as less dangerous than Cruz who is not known for any compromises even within the Republicans. And politics is all about compromises. And as far as I can tell the various republican candidates are all spouting similar policies. Also bear in mind that they are fighting for the Republican nomination so it's only the entree. When the federal election comes around then I will play closer attention.

Its a renters market at the moment in the inner north, heaps of new apartments being built. Took us 2 months last year to get tenants for our place even at a lower rent. TTIM: That the inability of Obama to be to govern and legislate has lead to a particular type of American to actually believe in stupidity that is coming out from a lot of the Republican Party Presidential Candidates (Obviously in particular one Candidate). It makes no sense that this party continues to drifts further and further from where it stood thirty years ago into believing that a set of rigid simplistic politics can create a complete idealistic fantasy land as unachievable as the crap you would hear avid Marxists advocate. Agree with all of this. Would like to add TTIM: The fact that not one of the Republican candidates is any good. Seriously they are all fucking abysmal and only appeal to rednecks and idiots. Now I'm a lefty so you'd think that I would be happy about this, but the fact is that with no decent Republican competition, the Democrat candidates are all pretty average too. Hillary is a terrible candidate but will win the primary because Sanders is too leftist for America. Whoever Hillary comes up against will be awful so therefore Hillary fucking Clinton will be the president of the US. Pretty terrible. Top Republican candidates according to polls: Trump - fuckwit. Ted Cruz - far right tea party campaign based on anti-immigration wont be popular at the genral election if nominated Marco Rubio - is a tea party senator who is born of immigrant parents and is constantly stuck between catering to Latinos and catering to anti-immigrants. Ben Carson - Ultra-religious conservative who fucked up his entire campaign by insulting the victims of the Oregon shooting and is a general nutter. Jeb Bush - Is another Bush. They aren't particularly strong candidates tbh
NewConvert
Unless the presidential winner's party also win the House and the Senate, then the American constitution encourages either compromise or roadblock. Unfortunately in 2000, the Republicans won all three with G W Bush at the helm. This allowed his government to rule unfettered leading to the disaster that was the GFC and the invasion of Iraq. Then in 2006 the Democrats went on to win the House and the Senate and Bush discovered his veto powers. Obama won in 2008 including the House and Senate. This gave him a window of two years to deal with the GFC but he did not have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. I seriously doubt that the next President will also have the support of the Senate and House. So if Trump wins, he will discover his penchant for negotiations from a position of weakness. At the international level the cold shoulder he will receive from south of the Rio Grande and across the Middle East into Asia will mean that he won't get too far. The real worry is Ted Cruz and Ben Carson. Neither of whom has the track record to compromise or aim for a win-win. Carson has no record to speak of and his working CV indicate he does not tolerate deviation from his own thoughts. Cruz is loathed by other Republican Senators because he won't compromise with them and has taken every opportunity to belittle them. Mario Rubio is a dark horse for me - and please don't lump all latinos together. Cuban-Americans are special breed that don't have too much in common politically with those latinos from the rest of the continent. Indeed I recall reading (don't remember where) those who arrived prior to the Cuban revolution and those who arrived in the 80s exodus have very different political outlooks. I think that like a lot of politicians he will say what ever he wants purely to get a vote. Bush will be ineffectual because he won't be trusted by anyone. To me the real race will be the Senate make up. Whether there will be enough Senators prepared to do a deal or not.

If you can remember your dreams well like I do then Good Dreams suck worse than Bad Dreams... I spent the whole of late 90's constantly waking up elated Geelong had finally won a flag, that impending exams were over or that I had just been at a great party and hooked up with an unobtainable girl. I reckon you just can't (unless you are very in tune with the states, which rules out the vast majority). So yeah trump wouldn't get many votes in Australia, but hey it ain't Australia. I have yet to be in a country where foreign policy ranks high in a democratic election. So I don't view the yanks any different from us in that respect. I find it difficult enough to have a pulse for Australian politics because these days I rarely travel outside of Victoria for work and so I don't get to hear what the locals in other cities/towns are thinking. I reckon the USA would be even more difficult because it has a bigger population in more towns than Australia does. As for Trump he came second. He remains in the mix but Huckabee is already suspending his campaign, I expect Santorum to do so as well. Kasich, Bush and Christie should follow suit soon. Don't know what Rand Paul will do. The third guy in democratic race has also called it stumps. Basically all the Iowa primary has done is eliminate the least viable candidates. NH should be death knell for a few more leaving the race in the Republican side with either three or four candidates. The Democrats will have two. Of course the vice presidential candidate will be interesting. I do note that neither Clinton nor Sanders have attacked each other (maybe with a stale lettuce leaf) so they may run on a joint ticket. For the Republicans, they have been at each others throat so that probably means that someone who is not in the race will be asked to run as vice president.
