Popular Post marteaux
This is a topic I've felt that has needed to be addressed and thus far hasn't so I am going to take it upon myself to highlight some things I feel need to happen in order for Yarraside to be the best it can possibly next year and increase the match day for experience for all involved. Please note nothing here is said on behalf of Yarraside/Yarraside Core or any of its subgroups but as a individual member of the terrace. -Pub and forum culture The pub is the central hive of all match day activity for a terrace. Being able to have all terrace members in the pub before a game creates an initial buzz before kick off that I'm sure everyone has noticed on a derby day. Getting to the pub - having a few beers with fellow terrace men and getting to know all the lads on a personal level creates to what is best described as a brotherhood and adds an element of cohesion between the different factions of Yarraside which I feel has been lacking more and more as the terrace has expanded. Not being at the pub really does put you out of the loop of Yarraside happenings so I do think it is necessary any YS member worth their salt gets down to the pub wherever humanly possible. I've been involved in Yarraside since before we had kicked a ball and have gotten to know the terrace regulars relatively well - great and welcoming bunch of chaps and the onus is on you to come and introduce yourself. Younger lads (18-) can inbox me in regards to pre game happenings for the youth of the terrace which is something I and another youth leadership figure in the terrace want to put more effort into next year. The forum is similar to the pub. Contains all relevant terrace information and club news etc. Being on the forum is another way of getting to know other terrace regulars. -Preseason attendance To put it as nice as possible - our pre season support of the lads has been relatively shocking in our 3 year existence despite a couple of exceptions. The onus here is on core to provide mega, flags, drums, and banners for these games. I feel that it is necessary that Yarraside begins to have an 'active' presence at these games as it also contributes to the creation of that kind of terrace brotherhood. Is also good to practice chants at these games. -Flags and banners -Permanent drummer and capo Basically as this confuses us as average terrace members when there is a different drummer every week drumming to a different style. I know it's hard to find someone who is willing to drum for 90 minutes every game. Same goes for capo. -Culture of SUPPORTING the team This comes back to the whole notion of singing louder when the team goes one nil down instead of going off to the bar and getting a beer. The knowledge of how hard you sing and chant, the effect that will have on the people next to you and the overall contribution that'll have to the atmospheric output of Yarraside. This is something Yarraside really does lack tbh and our performance as a terrace shouldn't relate to the performance of the team on the park. There should be consistent and constant support and noise made from our end and anything less means we aren't doing our bit as a home end. -Encouraging terrace growth by bringing likely mates to games Pretty self explanatory. A lot of people already do this whic is good. Keep it up - the more the merrier. Perhaps everyone can incorporate this into a sort another oneMelburnian program that hopefully gets off the ground for RD1 of next year. -The production of a permanent chant list detailing all chants to be printed and handed out for first few home games of 2013/2014 season We are seriously lacking creative and new chants which can make coming to the football a relatively stale affair. Core needs to produce a permanent chant sheet and then communicate this through the appropriate social media channels before game day, and then give out hard copies on math day. This is a relatively underappreciated however inexpensive and effective method of creating further participation not only in Bay17 itself but the surrounding bays. -Greater emphasis placed on away trips Our away attendances have gradually improved this year, however I'd like to see extended amounts of hype and promotion for these away trips from not only senior members of the terrace but average regulars too. Core should also communicate which away trips Yarraside desires to maximise attendance for in 13/14. KGB / MU5 have already picked ours for next year and further details on that will be released when the fixture is. -Increased generosity towards YS tifo fund Cool having a YS tifo as your cover photo of Facebook despite not having contributed anything to it, isn't it? The extended financial and physical effort put into producing displays I think flys over people's heads. Money is needed to produce this amazing tifo that we are physically but sometimes not financially capable of doing. When the jar comes around - give generously! -A proactive membership base that promotes the terrace and contributes in the form of homemade banners and flags and core fixing the existing flags There have been some quality pieces made by hand by individual members of the terrace - this needs to be stepped up. If you're struggling with designs - have a look through the banner section for tips/ideas for banners. Our existing banners and flags are in shocking shape and core needs to look into fixing this for next season.
cadete
Core is aware of most the issues you have pointed out as being necessary of its attention,  And We will be letting other Terrace Members know in the upcoming weeks and months where their help would be appreciated so that the Terrace starts of with Bang. Edited May 11, 2013 by cadete
xXJawsaXx
I will start going to the pub next season, I always feel awkward in pubs because I am straightedge, but I think I can deal with it, and it would be good to get to know everyone I also volunteer to be a permanent drummer. Seriously. I am a bass player so I am not rhythmically retarded haha!

kingofhearts
I always make the effort to try and give money to yarraside during games whenever they pass the bucket around, i would be more than happy to donate more money rather than just change from beer, is there any specific target that we're trying to achieve? Like 10,000 or so?? More than happy to donate 100 bucks or so than just a couple of bucks if we're working towards a total  Pre-season i would agree has always been poor in getting big heart numbers, Iast season was the first time i've been to some pre-season matches, and i enjoyed them thoroughly. I don't understand why more people don't go, but it would be nice to see more people there.  Have the pub numbers increased year by year marty? The last time i went was for the final against Perth, i'll have to make more of an effort to get down there. Work usually fucks me over, so i can't get there pre-game most days, but do most people also go post-game? Would be nice to meet some of the people on here
xXJawsaXx
Just a random thought, but could we start a kickstarter or something? To fund an awesome derby tifo for example.

Joel21
More exposure to new chants, more of a push to singing original/semi original songs  Songs like :  Melbourne I'm in love,           Paddy G song  Amongst others were tried many times last year and they were greeted by so many blank looks come game day, Maybe somehow we could use the official heart page to post chants on game day/day before.
Tommykins
Silly-ish question, would it be possible to organise (if the situation is the same as last year) for any black tarps draped over any seats to be Melbourne Heart-afied by something we've put together?

bazzatron
Seriously though, just having them red instead of black would be better.
xXJawsaXx
I was watching Mariners vs Kashiwa a few weeks back and the Kashiwa supporters put a bunch of banners over the tarp separating them and the Mariners supporters, I thought it looked really good. InMyHeart
I think in most importantly, instead of having the active bays 1 to the left and 1 to the right, we extend backwards (we as in yarraside) Â it could be 3 or 4 or even 5 rows.... As we have seen its a struggle to get people standing left and right of the yarraside, yet we can have it packed with people who are willing to sit next to the yarraside and extend backwards. Â

Roz
Bringing as many mates as you can to home games is the best way for our club to grow, we just have to hope the team performs on that particular day to hold new fans interest. Unfortunately people will only get in board at this point if the team is winning regularly.

I think if we bring back the large "Flag of Melbourne" as a simple pullover for games where we dont have anything special one then we can probably educate slowly PPL how to do these things better...  Its also a chance to use a Ace Flag.
