Hendo
People tend to forget there are two teams in Shanghai, but it's agiven as Shenxin relocated in Shanghai only last year. Judging by reports, it's Shanghai Shenxin, not Shenhua that have acquired Michaels services. Basically Shenxin used to be Nanchang Bayi, but relocated to Shanghai at the start of last year. Barely escaped relegation last year, and will be in the deep pits of shit again this season. Considering their past financial difficulties and destablishments I doubt: 1) We are receiving a decent transfer fee 2) Mick himself won't be on that much of a wage increase at Shenxin. If it is Shenxin, then ffs. Edited January 9, 2013 by Hendo
millm103
Good on michael, yes he is a big loss for the cub but a loss which is easily covered by the likes of JW or mitchinson, will be a great opportunity for these two young guys to get the chance to play week in week out now. Murfy1
Marrone leaves Heart for six-figure sum January 9, 2013 - 2:38PM Guy Hand Melbourne Heart's reputation as the A-League's dealmakers is growing, after Socceroo fullback Michael Marrone's sale to China for a six-figure sum. Marrone has been one of the most consistent players in the A-League over the past three seasons, and made his Socceroo debut last month against Macau. The 25-year-old was farewelled at training on Wednesday after the club agreed to sell him to a Chinese Super League club, and he will not play against Sydney FC this weekend. The Heart have refused to disclose the club with which Marrone will have a medical. Advertisement But it is understood Shanghai Shenxin, the second Shanghai-based Chinese Super League club, is Marrone's likely destination. "We've agreed on a fee we're certainly very comfortable with," football manager John Didulica said. Marrone is another of what is becoming a production line of Heart players nurtured, becoming first-team regulars, then transferring abroad. Curtis Good, Brendan Hamill and Eli Babalj have all been sold overseas in the past year after excelling for the A-League club. Marrone, who had been with Adelaide United before a move to ill-fated North Queensland Fury fell down and left him without a club, is a success story the Heart are proud of. "To take him from the scrapheap of North Queensland Fury and then move him on to China is a big win for us in terms of building a sustainable club," Didulica said. "What Michael brought us was great consistency and great durability." The Heart also appear to have depth to replace him, with Tasmanian teenager Jeremy Walker impressing at right-back when Marrone was on Socceroo duty. But Didulica also flagged the prospect of import midfielder Jonatan Germano, who played regularly in that position in Argentina, shuffling over to cover for him. With the club expecting ex-Socceroo midfielder Vinnie Grella to be back in full training within two weeks, that could ensure an immediate first-team spot once the World Cup star recovers from his injury problems. http://news.brisbanetimes.com.au/breaking-news-sport/marrone-leaves-heart-for-sixfigure-sum-20130109-2cfqd.html

Murfy1
Is this official yet, have we accepted a transfer few and Michael is flying over to work out the personal stuff? The official statement from the club is here: http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/melbourneheart/news-display/Marrone-set-for-move-to-China/57675 It is a little ambiguous (saying "Michael Marrone to travel to China with the view to signing with a Chinese Super League club."), but I think he's gone. kontra.11
All the best to Marrone, it is probably a good time for him to go.. Was dissapointing this season to be honest apart from last game.. Hopefully Walker is given preference and he can perform consistently.. Is Konyit still available? Might be worth it if can get him for cheap to add depth because we need Germano in midfield even if Grella plays..

kingofhearts
Why move germano?? FFS dulica needs to stay out of the coaching department. I would've thought zyzz would've been taken before marrone, IMO marrone has had his worst season this year out of the three
heart_fan10
germano's natural position is right back, and when he played there a couple of times last season he was outstanding so i wouldn't mind seeing him there. Either way i just want germano to be on the field because we are a much better team with him. Hopefully Grella could then slot into Germano's position in the midfield, or if grella isn't fit, garcia. DutchPride
IF we sign Foschini or Franjic, I am going to burn my house down. Edited January 9, 2013 by DutchPride
toogood18
Sad to see Marrone go. He has been a pillar of consistency for the club and higher honours were inevitable. Hopefully Walker can come back into the RB and play like he did when he came into the side earlier in the season. BTW, if Franjic or Foschini is signed by the club the board should be sacked
jw1739
Good outcome for all concerned. IMO although his form has improved in recent weeks, Marrone's best season for us was his first. He'll shortly turn 26 and this is therefore likely to be his last opportunity to play overseas. We get some cash in the bank and open the door for another young player to join our senior squad - hopefully Little Walker. Win-win-win.
MaliMate
Agree wholeheartedly on Foschini & Franjic. Please god no.
mulhollanddrive
That's one thing we've gotten spot on, extending contracts of young players and getting reasonable transfer fees for them. Does that take our sales to be about 2m within 6 months? That's good work, the only player I really miss is Babalj.

Pandev
He'd be worth $300k, but anything goes with Chinese clubs. Based on other china signings my assumption is that's its closer to 500k. He be back in two yrs.
Petercrouch
Hopefully can set up for the rest of his life on the Chinese wages. Great player for the club, and has provided what little stability we have at the back with great consistency. Best of luck mick
hedaik
Surely our club finances must be in good order now? Especially combined with the new TV deal.
Melburnian
Yeah you would think so. Obviously we have fallen behind in what we budgeted for in terms of membership. I heard we wanted 9,000 wasn't it? I might be mistaken. But to only have 6,200 is a disgrace, but we will build that! We have a license for the next few years so as I have been crapping on about, it's now up to us to build a part of the club it's lacking so that we will be around for the years to come. The only way to do that is to bring in the fans. #OneMelburnian at a time
Rocco Jones
J.Walker is a good replacement. Germano and Thompson can also play RB so no need for a direct replacement IMO. Like others, I would prefer a semi-decent CM/DM (assuming Grella never plays).
