Of course numbers will increase over the years but facts are facts. The boats cost money. Money we were saving under Howard and spending under Rudd.

The Problem was solved but Ruddy MK1 thought he was so smart he could provide an even better Solution.

And just like everything else he failed.

Not its too late. There's only like 30k connected.

Not really sure of the number but that doesn't sound correct to me at all since there are whole suburbs connected. Anyway all signed contracts will still be completed apparently and the coalition estimate over 20% will be on ftth. Doesn't sound like a big deal but in the future I can see it having a significant affect on house prices etc.

A lot of people speculating that anyone scheduled to be connected within a year will still be connected which covers me so not too bothered from a personal perspective but still really not a good result.

This is exactly my thinking. There is only 30k connected so far because alot of people are under contracts on their current service. It sounds rediculous to stop it. I mean you could end up with one street having fibre and the next street over not.

Plus the upload speeds for FTTN will be lucky to hit 6mbs

Apparently Turnbull said today Telstra would ask for no more money for the copper network because of the current agreement. No fucking way is this going to happen.

This is what will happen. They will send off the NBN to commitees to keep delaying decisions and then the new Telstra negotiations will drag out, resulting in further delays. In the end they will go oh the FTTP is too far established, they will blame labor mis-managment etc etc put in a new liberal friendly NBN board and announce that they will go we will continue with FTTP and insert a new slogan to sell to the public that it is in some way different.

I actually think the opposite, libs will turn around and say that even fttn costs too much and there isn't much benefit so they're scraping it and then they'll sell off the current nbn to private sector.

Geographically speaking we are a very unique country. 95% of our population live in 5 cities which happen to be hundreds/thousands of kilometres apart. If you were to divide the number of kilometers of fibre into the number of people/connections in the country you'd come to a logical conclusion that internet would be much more expensive. A cheaper method is being proposed, that video doesn't put that into perspective and lefties who made it can go fuck themselves.

Having said that, the number of seconds I save downloading porn could be converted into valuable wanking time. #Rudd13

I still think they will build it. They are spooked about breaking promises given what happend to Gillard and TA is as risk adverse as they come. Although, it depends on how much they will win by and how confident they then become because of it to basically leave 1/3 of a project in the ground and break a promise.

Palmer United... actually wanted to be named Australia United. - but some other party has Australians United or something

lol yeah. One of the most famous political parties in Aus history so I'm not surprised they didnt let him hijack the name/heritage.

The UAP(United Australia Party) was the renamed Nationalist Party which under Bob Menzies became the Liberal Party.

From 2004 - 2011, My house had Fibre to the house.

In the garage of every house in sandhurst, was a $2000 optic fibre splitter , that spit the fibre into Phone, and internet and TV (fox and free to air)

The concept was great, the implementation was shithouse.

The speed was great when there were 50 of us in the estate, once that hit 1500 the speed was relative to people using it, ie peak hour was diabolcle.

I now get 4x greater speed with telstra cable than i had with the optic fibre.

The next downside is it is powered, so you need a battery backup for a home phone incase of poweroutage ($100 maintenance item every 3-4 years)

The next is it was fragile and had to be replaced once (Luckicly under warranty - 2k is a fair expence)

Anyhow , my opinion is to the node takes all the home owner maintenance out of the picture, and speed is not relative to "the node or the house"

I'm all for a United Australia!

People are saying that we need change... so why go for the same old 2 party's? i think i'll vote Palmer united... considering he's a businessman, not a politician.

Personally I think it's important that we stick to the 2 major parties. We've seen how unstable in government is when a party doesn't have a majority and rely on the support of certain independent's.

the way I'm looking at it, and this is my own opinion, is that both of the two major parties are fucked at the moment. And Palmer is making a lot of sense.

That's politics though the day everyone agrees it'll get very boring and pointless. But yes, I do agree a lot with what Clive says.

Doesn't palmers party have Doug Hawkins in it though? what does he know about politics? I'll just be donkey voting this year. I can never remember a year so bad that I haven't been able to bring myself to voting for one of the main parties

Yes, lol. Doug is in it... He too is passionate about Australia. He doesn't need to know anything about politics to represent a party, just needs to be able to say the shit that's dictated to him... (now that i write this, they probably should have chosen a better representative lmao).

You're right not everyone agree's with each other and i suspect in the event that Palmer wins, he will be under the pump straight away from the major two. But he is very defiant and strong willed. He has a view, direction and plan for Australia's future and that's more than i can say for Labor and Libs.

Rather than bagging each other, why don't Abbott and Rudd actually outlay a plan, to the people, for the country? you're expecting to win votes by ridiculing the opposition? lol. Schoolyard politics.

Completely incorrect.

As the node to the premises will be copper, you need to have a DSL modem (rather than an ONT device for the NBN). You will also need to have an IAD for your voice calls which still needs power to operate and a battery in the case of a power outage. Why this is a problem in 2013 when everybody has a mobile phone anyway I don't know.

Your story is also about your ISP not having enough backhaul bandwidth for the x amount of people in your estate. It has nothing to do with the technology of fibre. Whether you're on dialup, cable, DSL or fibre if you're with a shitty ISP with shit backhaul, then you will always have slow speeds at peak times.

Speed is also completely relative whether it's to the node or the house. Fibre to your house allows up to 1gbps speeds up and down, with the capability of going well beyond those speeds (I believe you can get 10gbps links now in the corporate world). With fibre to the node you are still using copper as your connection, so you're still restricted by the limits of running data over copper. If you live a few hundred metres away from your node, then you could be stuck on 20mbps down and 5mbps up.

Palmer is...to quote what a former pm once said... All tip and no ice burg and like being flogged with a warm lettuce. Also quite possibly a low altitude flyer, but only because his plane probably cant get to great heights.

Its actually closer to 70%

Besides, its 10b more expensive for something that will last 50+ years (and most likely 100+) rather than something that will be lucky to last 10 which also costs 700 mil a year to continuously repair. So really its 3bn cheaper for 10% of the speed (just so we are clear. 100mbs if you are extremely lucky for FTTN and 1gbs for FTTP)

You also have to factor in the cost buying telstra's copper network.....which they didnt do.

Just done the early vote

Just did mine.

Fuck waking in line on election day  Who'd you vote for? In saying that, who are people thinking of voting for? I'm still undecided

Liberals in lower house only because my seat is probably close to the safest Labor seat in the country so can't hurt to make it less safe so they actually start to give a fuck about the area.

Wikileaks in senate, because the LDP didn't have an above the line option in Victoria (don't think they got their preferences in on time) and I wasn't going to number 1-110. Went with Wikileaks because the 6th Vic senate seat will go to either the greens, sex party, or Wikileaks (after Labor get 2 and coalition most likely get 3) and I prefer Wikileaks because if Assange gets elected then entertainment will be sure to ensue, and I generally believe in voting for who will deliver the most entertainment since none of them will actually do a good job, so why not at least be entertained by our politicians

Actually is quite a shame that LDP didnt manage to have an above the line option, voted for them last time and they weren't too far off a seat in the senate, probably would have missed out again but at least their preferences would have flowed to the Sex Party and that would have probably been enough to get them over the line ahead of the greens. Greens would really be the favorite for that 6th seat now but Sex party get a lot of preferences and wikileaks could get a surprisingly high vote so hopefully one of them gets above the greens cause the greens are fucking lunatics
