Peter
It is good to see Tim Cahill get his name in the headlines http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/04/27/toronto-fc-1-new-york-red-bulls-2-mls-match-recap
Peter
I was up at 0600 this morning to watch Montreal play Chicago. A couple of good goals and a ref changing his decision, which I haven't seen in all my time playing and watching football, made it well worthwhile. http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2013-04-27-MTL-v-CHI/recap The ref's decision made me laugh. I used to get upset with the A-League ref's making odd or plainly wrong decisions but I have got used to it watching the football in Aus and the MLS. I guess the game is developing in our countries at a fast pace and not everything is keeping up.
Tommykins
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/29/sports/soccer/abu-dhabi-sheik-is-said-to-be-on-track-to-own-new-soccer-team-in-new-york.html?_r=0 If this is true (not wholly sure of the veracity of the report), then the MLS would be on some seriously solid footing. Basically a team in Queens, New York, with the bloke who owns Manchester City offfering to put up $100 million for the license fee. Serious numbers being thrown around. Basically a team in Queens, New York, with the bloke who owns Manchester City offfering to put up $100 million for the license fee. Serious numbers being thrown around. I'm happy to see the league has come so far it can demand a 100 million franchise fee, but I hope it doesn't go through if its going to slow down Orlando City's bid (which it very well could). There some good news coming out of Orlando though as the state senate passed the bill and the state house is likely to pass the bill for a new stadium if we get the team. Don't know why the league is so obsessed with NY2 when there's already a NY team that doesn't get crowds with Henry and Orlando just got 9.5k to a 3rd Div match

Peter
HENRY  "goal of the decade"... wait woh? Henry has still got it. Felipe, the player on the post, would have been upset he wasn't a couple of feet taller . Peter
After a first leg 0-0 draw, Impact has won the Canadian Championship on away goals rule, therefore qualifying for the CONCACAF Champions League. A couple of nice long range goals in the mix. http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2013/05/highlights-vancouver-whitecaps-fc-2-2-montreal-impact Edited May 30, 2013 by Peter

MaliMate
Didn't want to make a new thread as its pointless but I've been watching a fair bit of the CONCACAF Gold Cup this week. USA should win it. Mexico have really dropped off in the last 2 years. Wondowlowski goes alright. Surprised he has never played for a club outside of the states. CONCACAF should have 2.5 WC spots instead of 3.5 tbh, USA will do well in Brazil next year. Strong squad.

sueflaki
MLS will have 22 teams soon. NYCFC has been confirmed, Orlando and Miami will follow soon. MLS is the fastest growing sports league in the US and Canada, they might be the next top league.

Peter
^Great game. Shame about the diving at the end. A pity the A-League doesn't give extended highlights like these. They make you feel as if you have been at the game, which keeps you interested all season, even when the games are played miles away. Peter
Well, Impact's season finished with a bit of a bang last weekend. Sorry to see Marco Di Vaio go that way after such a good season. https://golazo.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2013-10-31-houston-dynamo-vs-montreal-impact/details/video/ A poor reflection on the club, but the end of last season was all downhill. The coach may speak French but he has been sent off a number of times for ill discipline and this has rubbed off on the players. He should go. A good statement has been put out by the club. http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2013/11/season-review-statement-joey-Saputo Also Alessandro Nesta looks to have played his last competitive match. http://www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2013/10/grande-alessandro-nesta-thank-you-great-experience One of the games greats.
