Melbourne Heart FC’s status as Victoria’s sole Hyundai A-League Finals Series representative will be celebrated at a reception on the steps of Parliament House on Monday.

The Minister for Sport and Recreation, the Honourable Hugh Delahunty, will be joined by the Member for the Northern Metropolitan Region, Craig Ondarchie MP, in farewelling Heart ahead of its maiden finals campaign, which is set to kick-off in Perth or Wellington next weekend.

Mr. Ondarchie said: “Victoria is extremely proud of Melbourne Heart, only two years young and representing Victoria in the A-League finals.

“I call on all Victorians and particularly the people of Melbourne’s North to join me on the steps of Parliament House this coming Monday the 23rd at 3pm to farewell the Heart players as they depart for their finals journey.”

Melbourne Heart FC Chief Executive Officer Scott Munn declared the Club honoured to have its achievement recognised on such a scale by the Parliament of Victoria.

“The Club is thankful to Minister Delahunty, Mr Ondarchie and all members of the Victorian Parliament for their support of Melbourne Heart FC’s debut Hyundai A-League Finals Series campaign,” Mr. Munn said.

“We have overwhelmed by the avalanche of well wishes and goodwill we have received in recent days, and are hopeful of representing our great sporting state with honour and pride in the coming weeks.”

Securing a debut Hyundai A-League Finals Series berth, Melbourne Heart FC has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign this season, registering key triumphs over reigning champions, Brisbane Roar and ladder leading Central Coast Mariners to loom as a potential dark horse for the title.

Dear god! What a horrid idea. They will honestly be lucky to get 20 SUPPORTERS down there.

The club milks shit way to much, and often.

I call on all Victorians and particularly the people of Melbourne’s North

Why, because we don't have Jobs? Kent!

Confess I'm fairly negative on this sort of thing. Bit like the noise that was made when we were second on the ladder half way though the season. Finishing half way down the ladder and getting a State send-off? Better to wait until we get to a Grand Final or actually win something before we go for this type of PR.

Seems like a way of giving it to the visitors tbh.

There's to much of this giving it to em crap when they actually have trophies. Munn needs to also shut up and concentrate totally on us and not them. Why waste mind space and breathe on them. Lets actually win some shit first for starters.

We finish sixth and it's one big circle jerk down at h.q, hurry up and finish season pleeease!

What should happen is we rock up to a training session or rock up to the Airport on Saturday.

An airport send off would be immense. Would almost fly over from Tassie, stay at the airport, send them off, then go back to Tassie the same day just for this to occur. Get a couple of hundred, get the chants going, massive send off. Players would be pumped, and would make up the cringeworthyness of this Parliament thingy.

Any publicity is good

Not at all. You have to pick the right target audience and the right time. The right time would be when we've actually won something.

Some of the PR coming out of Heart HQ is truly pathetic. For example, from the Heart website: 'Unbeaten in six matches, Heart will enter the playoffs in a rich vein of form....' Who writes this stuff, and who do they think they are kidding? 'Rich vein of form' when you've drawn your past four matches and thrown away a home final in the process?

Yes, yes, I know I'm venting my spleen and my disappointment at the season's performance. But I really do find this sort of PR crap as insulting the intelligence of both Heart fans and the general public.
