Perhaps a little racist- but why do Asians have to eat so fucking loudly?!

Not racist, just calling a spade, a spade.

I agree with this BTW.

Yeah its a cultural comment...

And the answer is culturally they don't think eating has to be quiet - And in the grand scheme of things they kind have a point.

It's a cultural thing, it is supposed to be a way for them to acknowledge that they are enjoying their food. Hence why when Japanese people eat, they'll repeat "Oishii" (delicious) constantly while eating.

But, I do agree, it can be annoying sometimes.

The worst is when you're in the cheap seats on a Cathay Pacific Flight to Hong Kong FWIW.

Cad is right btw and tbh the dislike for it has more to do with our Western European and particularly Anglo-Saxon Victorian-era sensibilities about food and table etiquette than it does Eastern cultures not caring so much about eating loudly. We've retained a lot of those rather engrained rituals about day to day tasks. I think its actually quite interesting.

(btw this wasn't supposed to be a counterpoint, I also share your sentiment re:loud eating... cringe)

True. They do have a fair point. We do plenty of things that are considered the height of rudeness in their eyes which we consider to be perfectly normal too. Eating and walking for example is considered disgusting in some parts of the world.

Still- I can't stand it.

* I just realised this is in the things that don't irk me thread and was obviously meant for the things that do irk me thread.

Just learned about all of this in Asian Studies. For example, it is truly fascinating how shaking hands is almost ingrained in us when we meet someone, however, in most Asian cultures it would be quite rude since those cultures tend to dislike physical contact of any kind with strangers.

Na not trolling. He stacked it while talking to KB about golf.

You could just hear a small crash and he was like "Oh no I've crashed the car". And KB asked him of he ran into someone. He said yes and said I gotta go. KB seemed pleased. I certainly was.

Mediocre golfer, terrible radio presenter, even worse driver.

I don't think Snapper has many fans on SEN.

Spring Carnival being upon us...

What's on the agenda for yourself? Think I'm gonna limit myself to only going to Derby because of exams :(

I am going to do Caulfield Guineas (Which is probably the best day of racing now that the 1000 Guineas has been moved to this day) and the Caulfield Cup... the new members bar that opened there last week is great as well.

I am more than a bit annoyed that the Cox Plate is on the same day at the first MV vs MC game because its half the reason for my membership... but I have decided I will just go to Manikato Stakes Day on the Friday night before and skip the Plate for this year because of the match.

I am going to Turnbull Stakes Day this weekend and Oaks Day at Flemington... and I was going to go to Stakes Day as well but I will be Interstate.

(And as I am only a Restricted Member and don't get entry to the Members Enclosure yet on Derby and Cup Day- I will be skipping those.)

Won a couple of tickets to the Plate, so pretty keen on heading out then just heading back to the pub to kick on pre-game festivities... hoping it's out at Bev n Micks again too, dat same line convenience.

Caulfield Cup a necessity I'm thinking too, as I'll be in Sydney for Guineas Day..

No Melbourne Cup Carnival id say due to exams...

I love this time of year.

I haven't been to Caulfield either, but I like the Valley better than Flemington. Cosier or something haha

Hate the length of the straight at MV.

Each track has its positives and its negatives...

Flemington: Is obv the best actual track for all Runners, it always has the best Female Talent and obviously the most prestigious track being the MCG of the Racing World.

However its too crowded and has to many Members, it also has an abundance of Cokeheads giving each other High Fives and the fact that the Old Members Stand does not line with the Post is annoying.

Caulfield: Has the best Members Only Bar now, is less crowded but still has a lot of big races and race days on offer of which you can get a view of with relative ease it also gets some good female talent come Spring time. Its biggest negative is its less than central location and the fact that when it gets near capacity it can be pretty hard to get around.

Moonee Valley: As a Race Club it rewards its Members by far the best as it values your membership the most, is close to the action and has the least about of Cokeheads plus the unique once of experience of the Cox Plate. Obviously its biggest negative our the dirty days that it can throw up due to the weird track dimensions then there is the fact the club spends little in terms of renovating the Grandstands due to wanting to sell part of its land. (Also if you want to avoid someone from the Essendon Area - I would not recommend the members at MV.)

FWIW my actual favourite narrowly is Caulfield because I find it as the best all rounder plus when I first started really getting into the horses when I was around 10 - 14 I lived in East Malvern so it was at Caulfield where my love for the sport really matured.

I've always thought Cox gets the most cokeheads. Probably because I know so many locals lol.

The big cokehead days now days are every day of the Flemington Carnival and the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup... I know because my Cousin is the Poster Boy for these types.

But the thing these types of PPL who only mainly go the races for a good time usually only tend to see the value in having Flemington Memberships so you see at least some at most meetings VRC meetings. The worst days being when a Young Members Function is on in the New Stand - Which I avoid like a plague.

What's a good race to go check out for a first timer?

Was talking to some drunk cunt at the tab last week who was talking shit about how his dad was a multimillionaire but blew most of it on horses and he himself had lost hundreds of thousands and they bought a horse that broke down like a month after they bought it etc. Lol. But apart from the shit talk he did tell me about the memberships and all that stuff but really I just want to sus out one race as I've never been before.

Actually he said he was on ACA because some other kunts scammed him out of his horse winnings or something, so maybe he wasn't talking shit. Anyway irrelevant to my question of what a good race to check out would be, I'm just bringing it up as it was pretty funny hearing his (most likely) BS stories.

It depends what you are going for... betting, drinking, socialising .

If you have never been to the races you may as well start at the top and go to Flemington because as I said before its the MCG of the Australian Racetracks... prob Stakes Day would be the best day to attend because there will be a big crowd in normal terms but not compared to Derby Day and Cup Day.

Yeah I wouldn't want to go to one of the massive ones right off the bat (can you even get tickets to the Cup easily? I assume it gets sold out?). Stakes day sounds all right, but I wouldn't mind something a bit sooner. I want to capitalise before I get over it.

Unless you leave it really late you will be able to get a GA ticket to Cup/Derby/Oaks/Stakes day.

Cox Plate is on the same day as MVFC vs MCFC - So you can probably rule that one out.

The two Caulfield Meetings are the Guineas in a fortnight and the Cup (Much bigger in terms of Girls/Grog) the week after that...
