I just bought a Heart hoody on Saturday and it says established 2008. :)

YES! Haha

Red or dead I win this one ;)

Lol! So the official website says 2009 whereas the official hoody says 2008 - that's inconclusive mate - no one wins!  :P

Mind you this just goes to show just how 'all over the place' Heart is...can't even get our inception date right!

The A-League licence was granted by FFA to the Sidwell syndicate in June 2009.

For those on the Fan 'representative group' and the rest of us, these articles touch on many of the issues raised on this forum. Well worth chewing over.

Brilliant articles. My thoughts exactly.

Thank you for pointing them out.

The club is a mass of confusion right now. We need strong leadership and investment to steer us the right way. It is a critical cross road right now.

I really hope those issues are addresses in the off-season, or better yet have already been looked at and a plan set out..

We need an identity more than we need a marquee..

Outsiders should be able to say what our club is about in comparison to MV without having to do research, it should be clear and obvious.

But was it established 2008

Suggest read here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_of_establishment

In other words, MHFC can choose when it was 'established.' When the syndicate was formed, when the licence was awarded, when the team first made it's way on to the field to actually play...

I don't think it could be when the syndicate was formed, because a number of syndicates were formed but only one made it to getting a licence. I reckon it's when the licence was awarded, because that's when the recruitment of personnel started.

So I go for 2009.

I would put 2008.

But I wonder if the club would be open to it, whoever is in the group, (I think TA) should ask them and give them a picture of the second one you posted. Yes I know it's the last of their problems but still would be nice to see

...response from the club

"We are not changing our logo"

The other message from the guys at Heart hq is to take the opportunity when the official members survey comes out to provide as much feedback as you like through that process

Awesome response.....

This "blogger" went into a lot of detail and research and provided sound arguments and data to back up his and the wider communities thoughts. These are not only the "bloggers" thoughts on the club, but also the majority of Melbourne Heart members who have deep concerns about the long term viability (ten year license blah blah) of the club we have become a part of.

This is the issue, the attitude and response is not dignified. It lacks any substance and the credibility of it doesn't even resonate with a passionate supporter like me.

I want this club around in 20 - 30 years. Balancing the books is one element of making that happen. The way the club are going we won't have the support to make it. The big clubs are looking to increase memberships to figures that we could dream about in 3 years. If the club maintains what they are doing we won't improve. We will fall further behind, like it has this year.

Not sure who responded from our club but I thought the articles were well constructed and articulated some sound ideas. Whether you agree with the 'blogger' is another thing but we should be able to debate this around the table with the facts in front of us. I think this also raises the question as to how effective a fan representative forum can be if it does not have relevant facts in front of it to make sound comments and judgements. Dissapointing and a better thought out explanation/response from our club is required at the next forum.

This is just typical ... After a shit result and poor performance everyone at the club goes missing,

Where are you Mr. Munn? Show your support for JA and the rubbish that has been served..

Where are you JA? To explain what has happened this season...

Mr. Sidwell? Anyone their?

Come on show some leadership and stick your neck out ... Us supporters do week in week out..

You want us to play our part? How about the board, and coaching staff play there part...

This was published midway through last season

http://www.foxsports.com.au/football/a-league/early-season-gains-have-heart-confident-of-replacing-victory-as-melbournes-a-league-powerhouse/story-e6frf4gl-1226226424869

From the article:

Melbourne Heart chairman Peter Sidwell predicts the fledgeling club's popularity will overtake the city's original side, Melbourne Victory.

Sidwell says Heart already has overtaken Victory in some departments and declared the future red and white in Melbourne.

Although I'd love for that stuff to be true, I don't think there is a single person in the whole world outside Heart HQ that has ever honestly believed this.  This club is indeed being run by muppets

Before going into more navel-gazing with the prospect of six months of it ahead, perhaps it would be useful if we could see the precise 'Terms of Reference' for the 'Representative Group.'

I remain unconvinced that the Group is there to discuss in detail the management of MHFC.

In the end MHFC is a private organization.

At this stage there is no official terms of reference for the group.  This was discussed at the meeting (briefly) as well as how to get the most benefit from such a group and I guess how the group functions and how it provides benefits to the club, will take some time to evolve.

A couple of things for those on the forum to think about...

On the group, there were only two of us (Ando and myself, which makes up 25% of the rep group) that even knew that this website existed.  In terms of those active on this particular forum, we only represent a small percentage of over all Heart members.  As does YS.

It was acknowleded by the club (after some discussion) that the forum is a good starting point to discuss issues and bring constructive ideas, etc to the club.

So the forum now has a conduit into the club to deposit information and recieve responses.  We may not always like the responses, but at least we know we are being heard.

On the blogger article, even though the response was short and sharp, at least we know (directly as a result of this forum) that the club is aware of the article.  If they choose not to provide a detailed response, I would not be to concerned.  As a proffesional organisation I trust that when articles like this one come out, they read them, analysis them and ensure that they are doing their best to continue to build the club.

At the end of the day I do expect detailed responses on everything we send through, but I do trust that the forum is doing its job in terms of making the club aware of things.

This was evidenced by the fact that the forum's previous navel gazing exercise on identiy, etc, will be considered by the club in terms of writing some of the questions to the entire membership group for the end of year survey.

Update from the club through David Lyon ....

"....I would suggest the main thing is they know there will be a members survey coming their way in the next few weeks, which will provide lots of comment opportunities

On your points:

Early Membership Renewal: there will be one activated in April

Match Day Experience: I think we’ve made good progress although welcome ideas a plenty for next season

Club Identity: We’ll be moving forward with some branding work over next month or so (members input included).

Why do you support Heart? I think this is covered in the above point and can be addressed further from Survey."

TA a survey is always good and Lyon has been good at responding at the very least to enquiries (more than we've had in previous seasons)

My question is whether the club will feel the survey doesn't meet their needs/wants so won't take on board the more serious parts of it. Is there any part of the survey that is going to be scrutinised more than others etc. it's a concern that it may be a waste of time if the club are going to do little more than acknowledge fan responses.

Does that make sense?

  • 5 weeks later...

Meeting is with the rep group

A point that I would keep hammering at every opportunity is that we need to become a 'club' in every sense of the word. Supporters are the lifeblood and without them the investors might as well shut up shop. So supporter input/views through surveys and fan forums must be taken seriously if we are to grow the club.

...meeting on tonight at AAMI to go over survey results.  Will update the forum tomorrow

Poor bloke probably has to work for a living. Trust his word. I'm sure we will find out what was discussed soon enough. I am looking forward to hearing what the survey results came back with.
