Aziz Behich Gone?

Recommended Posts

  • 3 weeks later...

Will be welcoming Aziz in Kadıköy in a weeks time. Looking forward to seeing him play at Sukru, but I'm afraid Kuyt will tear him a new one if he does start. Started in the cup game against Sivasspor if I'm not mistaken, hopefully starts again tonight and is in the mix to start @ Kadıköy.

They know him as Aziz Eraltay for some reason. Well at least that's what his name is on their team sheet.

Btw "Fenerbahçe köpeğine, Fenerbahçe köpeğine, Fenerbahçe köpeğine, Şampiyon Cimbom yazdıracağız!"

Was already a Turkish citizen AFAIK.

Also, hasn't he only played in those East Asian Cup games for Australia?
There was a debate a few months ago about whether FIFA recognised them as official A-level internationals, meaning that there's a chance Turkey could still steal him.

The relevant current FIFA statute, Article 17: Acquisition of a new nationality, states:[20]

Any Player who ... [assumes] a new nationality and who has not played international football [in a match ... in an official competition of any category or any type of football for one Association] shall be eligible to play for the new representative team only if he fulfills one of the following conditions:

(a) He was born on the territory of the relevant Association;

(b His biological mother or biological father was born on the territory of the relevant Association;

© His grandmother or grandfather was born on the territory of the relevant Association;

(d) He has lived continuously for at least five years after reaching the age of 18 on the territory of the relevant Association.

Has he taken out Turkish citizenship? Reports possibly indicate that.

it would be highly likely, as I'm sure if he wasn't a citizen he would count towards their foreigners cap. Aziz is not worth an international spot for a Turkish team....Well the Turkish national team has been woeful ever since Euro 2008. And there's only one (half) decent left back who usually plays.

I have heard he has taken out citizenship and as a result has had to change his name to "Aziz Eraltay"

I am trying to get myself his kit now that he has actually played for them, but I don't know what to do about his name on the back! Because I don't want to have that! Has to be Behich for me!

You can have up to 8 foreign spots in your first 11, and even more outside that. It's not as selective as it is here.

not too sure I understand what you are getting at, and not too sure that you understood my post.

what I was saying is that Bursaspor wouldn't have bought aziz if he was going to take up a foreign player spot on the roster. as if you were going to import a foreign player for a LB spot im sure there are plenty around who would be of similar price who are much better. so it is highly likely that he was already a citizen or has become a citizen.

was not commenting on whether he would be good enough for the Turkish national team.

I was under the impression it was alot less than that, but you would definitely know alot more about it than me as I dont know much about the Turkish league

Don't worry mate, I didn't know much before living here. ;)

You have to remember though Bursaspor won the league in 2010, they've still got a pretty strong squad. In comparison stronger than the squads both Jedinak and Carle joined when they moved to Ankara.
