I read in the Herald Sun this morning - in the article about Harry Kewell - that Heart have signed former Chelsea, Celtic and Real Zaragoza DEFENDER, Jiří Jarošík who's 35 and currently plays for Sparta Prague.

Does anyone know anything about him other than what we can read on Wikipedia?

Born: October 27, 1977 (age 35)
Height: 1.93m
Position: Centre Back/Midfielder

If we believe anything Scott Munn says regarding our marquee it's that he will be Ono-esque who's played in the Premier League last season so this guy doesn't fit the mould.

Recent reports have indicated we're looking at a few European based players, this guy must be one of them, but not the Marquee.

"Having won titles in 4 different Leagues around Europe, I come with a winning mentality, etc..."

Edit: Cunts got quite a head on him, averages a goal every 6th game in his career 387 apps (307 starts) for 62 goals.

Thought he was more a central/holding midfielder when he was at Chelski.

Well he played mainly as Mid at Celtic as well but I gather he would be probably too slow to do now at his age, however I do remember seeing him score more than once.

Just having a look through, and this bloke doesn't seem to have had a very good season at all and has been released from his contract a year early..

Also worth noting that Lavicka is the Sparta Manager..

Here is the result of a poll:
Who are you in Sparta this season the most disappointing?
Marek Matejovsky 1939
Jiri Jarosik 2185
Leonard Kweuke 137
David Lafata 140
Vitezslav Bench 74

Here is his last match rating (1 being he worst):

Jarošík's statistics are in fact desperate. After almost five-month break caused by the thigh muscle injury failed to settle their performance to the required level. His performance in Brno could not be described as anything more than a flop. The tall thirty-five year-old was at fault for tgr first two goals and received the lowest possible rating - 1.

While Sparta has received average of 0.5 goals per game, Jarosik has much worse parameter 1.4. Therefore, it is likely that the he will not appeared in the last league round against Dukla - and in the summer will set off for the next challenge.
Although he has a contract until June next year, he will not, be prevented from leaving. "Jiri has some offers to transfer, but until the end of the league we wont want to make anymore comments," said agent Martin Riha.

After being dropped:

For what reason Jiri Jarosik was not even among the substitutes?
"The main reason was that it was not in good health. But we also when evaluating the match with Brno and took account of the fact that his performance was not optimal," Said Lavicka

EDIT:

This from the wonderful world of Twitter (in response to this being a rumour):

@biancorosso7 Man it's not a rumor read it in a newspaper in the Czech Republic that's he's left and coming to the #Aleague I'd say 90%

Lol, Nick Ntris, strong source... https://twitter.com/NNteris93/status/339581917550751744

The same sort of negative comments about age and speed were said about Madaschi,

And they were true however they did not stop him from turning our defence from a weakness of the side to a strength of the side in his few games at the club.

madaschi wasn't even 30 when he signed for us lol, physically they don't compare.

Did not stop certain posters calling him "Too old and too slow" all over the old yarraside forum and in the unforgetable "Madaschi Out" thread.

This blokes giving me that Zwanswijk vibe. could give us a good couple of years.

What exactly is the Zwanswijk vibe and how the fuck does he give you it if you've never seen him play?

He's a defender with a hard to pronounce, non-English sounding last name. Clearly exactly the same type of player....
