  3. Yes exactly the club needs it and it's a nice idea
  4. It's an attempt to build culture and for that I commend it.
  5. What do we think of this? Coaches award is for best coach? Perhaps it’s a little too early for some players.

  8. For what is worth, the AFL clubs also face the same dilemma - when to "retire" a player and who to replace them with. Theoretically, A-League clubs have a much larger talent pool to choose being a world sport but this is constrained by the salary and list cap. Also, about the scouting network. I think that CCM and AU have hit a sweet spot in that they have been able to spot local talent, nurture and develop them with enough frequency to not be disastrous. SFC have done well this season with their young players as well, but it would be interesting to see what happens if most depart for overseas. Game plan works well until you players slow down drastically due to age or injury. Nuno Reis is a classic example. Excellent first season but this season he definitely was too slow. His pace (and Goods) just fell off the cliff.
  9. Bloke above was talking about the FA though so I was replying to him
  10. Johnson was part of Football Australia, not the APL. We are talking about the APL at the moment. The Age reported that FA is cashed up and could easily sustain the A-League.
  11. I agree, but I think this happens with all successful teams. It's compounded in our League with a short season, a relatively small list, and few alternative competitions for younger players. Key players are important but also a point of weakness, as we've seen this season with Matt Leslie's prolonged absences and their impact on the team. PK put more emphasis on systems of play, and whilst that was implemented rather inflexibly, it did lessen the impact of specific player absences.
  12. If something good happens. I don't think we would of got the women's world cup without Johnson and he has done other things like land sponsors, attract friendlies and his looking to improve the socceroos and Matildas I think his done well
  13. Young talent management is always an issue for successful teams. We just don't have a long enough season, or enough other Cups or competitions running at the same time as the A League se4ason to give them all enough game time. This is structural issue that will hopefully be improved with a second division

  15. How do we assess whether an administrator is "doing a great job?"
  16. Gee forgot about Gauci and Bernardo. They would have been very handy! Yeah it sucks with the Cola situation and not giving Rodrigues enough game time giving him no option but to leave...there's definitely been some real talent let go of too soon unfortunately.
  17. Actually think we were too top heavy with old blokes. Not enough in the 23-29 bracket. We were mostly too slow to play our usual game. Although our three best for the season Arslan, Souprayen and Young are outside that parameter. The only quick guy was Jakolis really
  18. Emin Durakovic has played 4 games out of 12 for NPL2 sude this year for two goals. Left foot midfielder. I'd say he was injured. Shillington is a right back. Played 9 of 12 games this season 1 goal, 5 yellow cards! He has been picked a couple of times for soccer's u21s. He's 19. I think when you're looking into the one's we lost: Gauci, Rodriguez, Bernardo, these guys were all Adelaide boys we got by offering higher $s than anyone else. Hence they were already mercenaries when we got them and always likely to leave. I'm more cut up about guys like Cola really
  19. Politidis got some decent game time this season, however what happened to Durakovic? Was he injured? What position does Shillington play? Yeah true, some of the ones we've lost haven't kicked on to much. Others have been good first 11 or garnered interest from Overseas ie: Rodrigues. I think this next season will likely see a lot more youngsters getting decent game time and even breaking into the best 11...
  20. A $140M injection of capital and very little to show for it. That is a result of the APL. So those who claimed that the APL would be better need to consider that. Note that there were people who were sceptical about this.
  21. I don't get comments like this because they can both be stupid at the same time. Johnson is doing a great job though at the fa shame he didn't get a chance to run the league
  22. I disagree. A lot of teams have one key player that makes the difference when competing against other top clubs. If you were to name a player from Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City that was critical to their success against other top clubs you would most likely come up with one name. For Melb City it is Leckie. We need another Leckie in the back six.
  23. I’m fine with that considering JMAC was the benchmark marquee.
  24. IMO that's an excuse and not a reason. If it was indeed the overwhelming reason, then the club is in an even worse state than we thought.
  25. Well all the supporters who claimed that it was FA holding the A-League back and that the clubs would be better at running the competition better grab extra helpings of humble pie.
  26. Well, that's one bed occupied at the new Germano Treatment Centre.
