he'd started 8 games in his last year at hull and came to us with injury concerns. hardly demanded a big salary. i think we paid him what he was worth, else he wouldn't have signed for us. now that he's proven himself, we should be rewarding him with more money. Pretty much agree with all of NuggetsMcGreggor's post. Given Garcia's age, injuries and playing history, we got his contract right last season. I can't help but think as well that if we were paying our players significantly more that a number of people would be complaining that we paid our players too much, and that we weren't business savvy. That was said about Grella, until we learned the club signed him on next to no money. It has been reported that we have offered Garcia more money, and now he still wants a "substantial rise" in his pay. The article even states that his hometown club Perth Glory, which has a fair bit of money, couldn't negotiate an enticing contract with him. That we have progressed further with negotiations than Perth Glory for Garcia suggests that Heart is putting forward a respectable deal (Garcia himself even says that "I know John Didulica (Heart's football operations manager) is doing all he can to come to an agreement and we are certainly getting closer"). The fact is, if it becomes a bidding war between us and an Asian club, then our odds are bad. I remember hearing that Brendan Hamill receives roughly five times at his K-League club what he got at Heart. Heart would have to really break the bank to outbid an Asian club, and Garcia IMO isn't worth that much. He wouldn't play as a RW next season (as Dugandzic will), and he is already 31. Why sign Garcia, who at best has another 2-3 good seasons in him, when we could sign another Gerhardt, who could provide 4,5 or 6 quality seasons? I hope we see Garcia back in central midfield next season, but he only starred in a team that finished second last last season. He is not irreplaceable.3 points

TBH I don't think there would be many NT members in this new group, I hear they've been pretty busy http://www.news.com.au/national-news/more-australians-are-breaking-bad-with-home-meth-labs/story-fncynjr2-12266467050623 points

I agree mate and you know me very well, I'm a rather rational, measured person but I have to admit that at this stage I can't see myself overcoming the club rivalry and stand with those who over the past(yes a relatively minuscule period) 3 years have done what they have. I know it sounds petty but I'm just being honest. I sincerely hope I'm in the minority but I doubt I'm alone tbh.2 points

Guys, the new name is... TERRACE AUSTRALIS Anyone want to have a say, jump on http://socceroosactive.vanillaforums.com/ We've only got a few weeks to get organised and we need some more Victorian guys onboard.2 points

Bearing in mind that no-one else is bursting a boiler to get him, maybe he's over-playing his hand and asking too much. Yes, he was our best player, but the best player in a team that escaped the wooden spoon by one goal. IMO we should give him a final offer and leave it at that. Plenty more fish in the sea. Not sure the numbers in the article are right. At this stage my arithmetic shows we have 15 signed players for next season. Excluding Garcia and Hoffman.1 point

Is it just me, or does Heart seem to only want players that will play for less than they are worth? If Richard Garcia has played for Heart, even if his motives were personal, for less than he should have been entitled, and if he wants to stay on for a true reflection of what a player of his calibre is worth, then surely the club should pay the man his dues. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/news/1152452/Garcia-pondering-Heart-bypass1 point

Id rather watch the socceroos from my couch or from the wings, eating prawn sandwiches and light beer. I'd rather watch MHFC in Yarraside (active area). That's just me.1 point

Lol possibly the weakest excuse i have ever heard. So you only go to games where you think your teams going to win Obviously taking the piss fuckwit.1 point

You mean the vegemite sandwiches didn't get up I don't think its going to work in Melbourne champ sorry. There is just no way members of yarraside will chant with any member of nt. Assuming that those are the two active areas you're targeting, you're going to have to look outside of them mate. Pfft get over yourself, division in Melbourne between Yarraside and NT isn't that thick buddy. Fucking roff.1 point

Anyone who has been to a socceroos match and thought to themselves "man I wish we had support like they have in other countries" should seriously consider getting the fuck behind this.1 point

Tbh, I wouldn't say we had an easy fixture at all, playing both grand finalists twice, not playing in Geelong until round 10, the second half of the season will obviously be easier then the first, but we still won crucial early games against top teams to kick start the season. I wasn't saying Geelong had an easy fixture. They got through the hard part and now they have 7 games at simonds... so thats 7 wins IMO. If anything I'm agreeing with you. Fair call, as I said, the fixture gets easier from here.1 point

Would have been nice if they acknowledged the hunters rich footballing history by supporting it when it was really needed, but you know. Wearing a green shirt. Close enough.1 point

I Agree, that some of the names suggested are a little odd. its an open forum and key names will be put to the vote, which will filter out the slightly odd names. This isn't soley based of Western Sydney Fans there is many different supporters combining their efforts. I would hope that those who have seen the state of the Australian Home End would help to improve things.1 point

Second concert date announced on Sunday 8th of December! So even if we play on Saturday or Sunday - he can't make it! Hopefully we get the Friday night match that weekend! lol Here's a marketing idea - it'd be great if JBJ gave Heart a couple of tix to give away. Heart could set up a competition for Heart supporters to enter and the winner gets two tix to one of JBJ's concerts! The competition could be something like: In 25 words or less tell us why...<something something something> or Multiple choice: Who is our No.1 International Ticket Holder? a) Elton John, Jon Bon Jovi, c) Ricky Martin? or When was the last time Jon Bon Jovi played in Melbourne?1 point

dont care. As that would mean we are less likely to play friday games. friday games are the worst Why? Personally hate Sunday games as their is no room for celebrating/commiserating afterwards and stymies the pub culture.1 point

The reason that active support for our national team lacks is because all people do is sit on their arse and bag it, instead of getting involved and making it decent.1 point

What is with this obsession with Active Supporters and Active Areas? What was wrong with just being "active" when you supported your side?1 point

Agreed. Every player looks good and a 'must have' when you read their Wikipedia entry. The reality is often different.1 point

Wanderers got 2 extra visa spots, but they only used one extra last season. They get the extra two for one more season. But with Keesinger gone, I guess this new Croatian will be replacing him, so maybe they'll continue to just use the one extra.1 point

By the way, here is a new development, and we already know that Aloisi is in England.... http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2013/05/17/3985338/karagounis-to-leave-fulham-at-the-end-of-the-season-reveals1 point

Not sure this has been mentioned but..... How awkward/bad is it going to be for JA if we do get some very high paid star of a marquee. 45 doctors and physios hovering around, world class facilities etc etc and after the first training session at the club he tells him to get into a bin1 point

It is probably more a case of that he wants to make sure the club are as committed as he is, we had a very dismal season, he may want to play in a competitive team and may be seeking assurances from the club as to how they are going to address the issues surrounding our performance. Not everything is black and white and just because he hasn't signed on does not at all mean that he is not committed to playing for us.1 point

Work with a bloke from Bendigo who knows a fair few of the guys from their VFL team. Told me they have been recruiting from local leagues & are rubbish this season. We've been backing their opposition @ the line every week so far and it has worked. Getting on N.Ballarat -70.5 tonight. Fingers crossed.1 point
