Wow! Amazing!

We were losing 0-2 then levelled it by scoring 2 goals in 2 minutes before half time.

Then we went down 2-4 before scoring 3 goals in about 4 minutes to make it 5-4.

Apparently Jez Walker's goal (to make it 3-4) was a screamer from outside the box.

Should've gone to the match...

Went.  Left when we were 5-4 up though, had stuff to do.  Very open game as the scoreline shows.

Mifsud started and would have played the full 90.  set up the first 2, got the pen for the 5th but didn't take it and scored the third.  I only saw him offside once.

Basically it was the sort of performance you would expect from a player with his CV against a youth team.  If the ball was on or near the ground they were clueless on how to deal with him.  JVS will be pleased - he is really putting his hand up, which is what you want your fringe players to do.

I thought Walker had a great game both in defence and attack.  That screamer was with his left peg.

Schroen (subbed at 60m) looked really good I thought.

I thought brisbane looked like they had some very good players, but got murdered on the break.  They really need to do something about thier subs "warm up" at half time.  Honestly if I was coach I'd be "suggesting" they either change their attitude or join a social team.  I don't think its a coincidence that Brisbane fell away once these lads came on.  So many kids out there looking for a break, why waste your time on blokes who think its a kick around on the way to the pub?

NYL: Heart record sensational 7-4 win over Roar

Kieran Francis

22 February 2014

Melbourne Heart twice came from two goals behind to record a sensational 7-4 victory over Brisbane Roar in a Foxtel National Youth goalfest at Epping Stadium on Saturday.

Roar led 2-0 and 4-2 after goals from Devante Clut, Steven Lustica, Brandon Borrello and Jai Ingham before Heart engineered two stunning fightbacks that eventually resulted in a big victory.

Alex Dao and Marcus Schroen cancelled out the first Brisbane lead before Jeremy Walker and Michael Mifsud brought Heart level again midway through the second-half.

A penalty to Hernan Espindola secured Heart first lead of the match before Ersin Kaya and Dao's second goal sealed the win.

After having an early sight on goal, Clut curled in a wonderful strike from outside the box to open the scoring for Roar on 28 minutes.

Brisbane extended their lead in the 37th minute with Lustica finishing off a beautiful move from the penalty spot after Borrello's precise cut back.

Two minutes later, Heart pulled a goal back with Mifsud going round the outside of his marker and pulling the ball back to Dao, who placed it in the top corner.

Despite Roar looking the more dangerous side in the first half, Heart drew level just before the break with Mifsud's side-footed effort striking the post and Schroen was at hand to tap in to the empty net.

The extraordinary second-half began with Borrello scoring an easy-tap in the 50th minute in after Jack Hingert pass deflected into the six-yard box.

Brisbane again established a two-goal lead on 53 minutes after Ingham executed a delightful shimmy outside the area before curling a wonderful shot past Heart goalkeeper Phillip Petrovski.

But from that moment on, Heart went on a scoring rampage started by Walker's 30-yard strike in the 64th minute.

The equaliser was scored on 66 minutes by Mifsud after he slid the ball past Chalmers from Kaya's right-wing cross.

Heart then extraordinarily took the lead from the spot a minute later with Espindola converting after Mifsud was brought down in the area.

Mifsud turned provider in the 79th minute with his weighted pass being controlled and calmly slotted home by Kaya.

Dao became the only multiple goalscorer in the game in the 86th minute with his crisp finish securing Heart's seventh goal.

The three points for Heart sees them leapfrog Brisbane into fifth position on 25 points, with the Roar dropping to sixth-place on 26 points.

Funnily enough the YT seems to have had a resurgence around the same time as the seniors.  ;)

They were dead last on 2 points at round 10, but since the turn of the year they've gone 4-2-1 (+15 GD), with their only loss coming 1-2 to runaway leaders Sydney (who were 12-1-1).

If they win next week to a very poor CCM side (1-3-12), they could finish 3rd if results fall their way!

Well the youth players had no future. They'd never get promoted under JA and even if they were offered a senior contract they'd never have been played. Of course now they also have just a little bit of motivation with our new ownership. It just shows how much of our problem was embedded into the very fabric of the club culture.

I was at most of that Sydney game.  It was a very even game and a draw would have been a more accurate reflection of the match, infact we dominated the first half.  TBH I was shocked when I saw later that Sydney were runaway leaders- they were no better than our team.
