  1. Noah Botic needs to play for experience, but isn't ready to lead the line
  2. Noah Botic is their main striker! No reflection on Noah, but it's a big responsibility for a young player and he has little support
  3. They do seem to have recruited badly, probably a reflection of having no money.
  4. Yes, I saw that but thought 'no, surely not'.😂
  5. Someone still needs to explain the concept of team defending to him, though.
  6. It's always good to get a win against 'lucky John'. Positives: We won without playing well; this was always going to be a much harder game than against Roar, we've always struggled against teams that counter-attack. We'd done our set-piece homework. We look much better with 2DMs Negatives: We are still struggling to pull organised defensive teams out of shape, whilst we also struggle against the rapid counter-attack, although this has become less perilous since we started playing 2DMs. Slow ball movement + head-high crosses into the box = JMac is completely cut out of the game; if we want to play that way, start Caputo. Ref didn't protect our players; Aslan and Jakolis were hacked all afternoon
  7. I don't blame WU for using the same tactics against us every game; they work. Press our defenders as we play out, force a turnover, shot on goal.
  8. The prison won't let them watch the game at all unless they've earned good behaviour privileges.
  9. I've just watched a replay of the match, having missed it because of a social engagement. Positives: We won, and we corrected our GD blowout from the Adelaide game. Natel had his first, mostly good game, as long as opponents give him space, he has the time to make the correct decision for the final pass. Aziz’s assist was performance art of great beauty; it belongs in the NGV. I really liked our midfield gegen-pressing, it took the pressure off our slow CBs Souprayen's positioning has greatly improved over the past few games, and his disposal is creative. Together with Sahki, they almost equal one O'Neill. Our backline looks good as long as Souprayen isn't exposed for his lack of pace. Further along that line, we look much better both defensively and in transition, with two defensive minds. It was good to see JMac back on the scoresheet. Negatives: At the risk of sounding churlish, the scoreline flattered us; Roar could have scored 2 or 3 more goals with a little luck Their determination to play a high line whilst refusing to shut down any of our players with the ball made us look better than we are. In that sense, I was happier with the 0-0 derby draw against a well-organised compact team
  10. He was with us at the wrong time; he was only going to get game time when O'Neill was unavailable, and so left to get game time elsewhere. Ironically, he would have had a starting position if he'd stayed. I don't think though that he's creative enough or positionally aware enough to have been a significant upgrade over Ugarkovic.
  11. Luca Trani has previously been an assistant coach for us
  12. The ref had a good game up until that point. Someone like Chris Beath would have pedantically referreed the game to a halt, with a couple of red cards to each side; instead, the game flowed.
  13. He's very frustrating to watch, something good followed by a pub-team-player level decision or final ball.
  14. I'm pleased that my scoreline prediction was wrong and pleased that, despite the result, this was our most complete performance of the season. Positives: We played to not lose for much of the match, and given where we are, that was a reasonable strategy. Clean sheet. Very good pressing and gene-pressing from our midfield when we lost the ball, that shielded our backline well and it's no coincidence that we kept a clean sheet. Aslan is very good to watch. Aziz's passion drove the whole team; he understands the derby. Negatives: Natel is extremely frustrating to watch; he always does something skilful, followed by something a pub team player would do; how did this guy play in the top league in Brazil? For all the cohesive play, we created very few genuine chances.
  15. I hope that I'm wrong, but I'm expecting 0-4 tonight; hat trick to Bruno. At least 1 red card
  16. I think that Ugarkovic's lack of positioning and ability to break up play and initiate attacking transitions is what is really costing us. We struggled during the games that O'Neill didn't play over the past few seasons; I think that DM is a key position in CFG's style of play.
  17. That was a poor performance and we're a shadow of the teams we've fielded the past few seasons. Positives: We didn't lose at home to the team that's 9th on the ladder Negatves: Our defence is slow We are often shapeless and too open, especially in defensive transitions. We really lack a quality DM. O'Neill was the pivot that set up all our attacking moves and broke down attacks. Ugarkovic just isn't good enough positionally, defensively or in attack. Sahki and Aslan don't defend, this puts too much pressure on our back line and leaves us too open in the channels when our FBs push up Maclaren needs some time to recover, let's use Caputo as more than a bench warmer
  18. Yes, they were practising the template to use against us
  19. Denis Genreau could barely get a few minutes off the bench here but is a Ligue 1 regular; one of ours that we totally missed
  20. Yes, the seemingly endless flow of talent started to ebb towards the end of PK's time
