  1. Hopefully being subbed at the end is a wake up call
  2. That's what Paartalu seemed to indicate in his radio interview the other day, Jaliens is more of a backup/depth option for the bench rather than for the starting lineup
  3. Extra marquee will not happen any time soon and possibly ever. Depends I guess on the tv deal. Lots of clubs still making a loss each year, FFA doesn't want to deal with (more) bankruptcies or for some clubs to be run on the cheap and always lose. So salary cap increases would be more likely with more money from a new tv deal.
  4. Not Tesla because I prefer seeing which player has the most votes! It was interesting seeing the spread although probably it did influence other people's votes.
  5. Who else is even available for selection? There's not many options. Maybe Germano will come back and get injured again. And Mauk, Marino or Retre could play. Otherwise the only other option is the youth team, with Stevanja the most likely candidate. Out: Brown - 1-2 weeks Dugandzic - 1-2 weeks Garuccio - 2-3 weeks Paartalu - ??? Velaphi - 1-2 weeks Wielaert - 2-3 weeks Aside from those listed above, everyone else in the team played tonight.
  6. Really terrible performance, normally we fire up for the derby but tonight we looked like we were pining for the fjords and wouldn't voom if you put four million volts though us. Even Mooy looked bad.
  7. TBH, I don't think there's much of a link between the two. The crowds for the Asian Cup here in Melbourne were considered pretty good. But if you consider that MV have 22,000+ members, and City 10,800+, to have Australia's game sell out only a few hours before kick-off was surprising. And obviously a lot of MV/City members turned down the opportunity to see the other matches held here, when there were some very good footballers on show. Conversely, it's pretty obvious that many of the people who came to the Asian Cup matches don't support either MV or City. They are happy to turn out to watch their national team, but they have no interest in A-League football. I expect that we will hover around 7,500 for the remaining five home games. Much will depend on results. If we can win a few matches from here we can finish 5th/6th, but if we lose a few we can easily finish in the bottom four. Our fixture is erratic from here on too, and that doesn't help matters. Next season is going to be a different situation...I hope. Marketing needs to lift itself up a few notches, and hopefully the club will have painted a clearer picture of the direction we are heading and we do start with a decent squad. The David Villa situation must never happen again. I also believe that we need to have a greater pre-season presence in Melbourne, and we need to hit the season running instead of our usual slow start. There's such a long off-season that it is too easy for the public to lose interest, and it's probably the period in which the club has to work its hardest to gain and keep support. Suspect some people were focused on the Asian Cup and the aleague caught them by surprise. I actually thought we were back next week, it's only because the club reminded me that I knew it was on this week. Also yeah a lot of people turned out to support Australia who aren't regular aleague attendees. I met some people up in Sydney who had also flown up from Melbourne for the game, so you'd think they were pretty passionate about football, but when I asked about the aleague they said they'd only been to a couple of games.
  8. You can still get away jerseys from Nike, if people are looking: http://www.nikestore.com.au/2014-15-melbourne-city-fc-stadium-away-708061-657
  9. I sit in GA and I can confirm that the non-swearing chants about City get more of the people around me engaged. It was great that GA as a whole was really engaged last match, particularly during the corners, and from GA it sounded really good. (Not sure how much of an impact it made elsewhere in the ground - was anyone sitting elsewhere who could comment?) Hopefully people remember and stay pumped for our next home match. Doesn't help that there's such a big break.
  10. I have been arguing this from season 1. And I suspect that I will still be arguing for this next season. Just in general we're bad in the air. How often do we actually win headers (and then get the ball somewhere useful)? So frustrating. We must be watching different games? I was thinking we were the best aerial team in the league. 5 goals in 10 games, can't recall coinciding 1? I take the point about ball use but paartalu and kisnorbo are 2 of the best in the league then you add the hoff and chappy and the opposition panics when we win a corner. Tards never looked dangerous in the air Yeah but in the midfield we are wretched.

  12. Possibly the most courageous action we've seen from the team this season. Well we can still make finals if we lift our game, which although not enough to be counted as a successful season I'd still like to see b/c we have basically no finals experience so it would be good to get some going in to the season after.
  13. This is misleading - yes our defence is crap but they're comparing our record over 8 games to the record of the Knights over an entire season, so it's not the same thing. That said: our defence is pretty terrible.
  14. From what I can see, the players whose contracts end in 2015 are as follows (this list may be a little wrong, but hopefully it's mostly accurate): Wielaert Ramsay Murdocca Duff Germano Retre Velaphi Dugandzic Kisnorbo Everyone else is a 2016 end, except Garuccio who is 2017 and Paartalu who is 2018, plus of course Liam Miller who is supposed to leave before the end of the year. Duff has already said he's only here for one year (this was before the season started, can't see him changing his mind now) because he doesn't want to have his family out here for more than a year. You'd have to say Germano would be going. Wielaert would also seem likely to go given he's on a visa spot, but who knows.
  15. As per the article on the club's website, they're saying he'll maybe start training week after next and then maybe play the last games before the Asian Cup break (surely this is unlikely): Melbourne City FC’s international marquee Robert Koren is on track to make an appearance by the end of the year with Head Coach John van’t Schip wary of the midfielder’s progress. Koren—who picked up a calf injury on the eve of the season—has worked individually on his recovery and will look to be training with the side in two weeks time. The debilitating injury has seen Koren miss the opening rounds of the season but van’t Schip is happy with the way the former Slovenian captain is tracking. “We’re pleased with how his progression is going,” van’t Schip said. “After the Brisbane game we can start working. Maybe he can be involved in the last games before the break (vs. Victory, Perth, Newcastle and Central Coast)” The Dutchman is wary of bringing back his marquee man too early, saying Koren will only come back into the fray when he is fully fit. “He’s been out for six weeks so we have to build him up again in his training just with the team,” van’t Schip said. “We have to make sure when he comes back, he’ll be in a good shape to help the team.”
  16. After another capitulation against Victory.
  17. Pretty sure we're out of salary cap space.
  18. You only get points once a day for each category eg 5 points for one retweet but also 5 points for two retweets. Ditto on the hashtag. And the giving points will be allocated in Dec I think it said on the site? Having said that I've not even been getting points I should have been getting, so. Also we should get bonus 'sorry we were completely shit and got thrashed 5-1' points.
  19. Even after this though I don't see JVS actually being sacked.
  20. Already have, we just stayed unable to score and unable to defend when we did.
  21. Back neck graphic, now tattooed on to every New York City player! Thats rubbish I'm not particularly excited by it either. 100% no, I thought Sydney's kit looked bland and boring before Man City came and tried to shove it down our throats, and I haven't warmed to it since.
  22. FFS. Surely if nothing else greed would make they want to bring it out before Christmas? But there is already merch?
