City Football Group (CFG) [Owner of Melbourne City]
bt50 replied to Torn Asunder's topic in Melbourne City
Well not really, he was NYFC's player. The difference in quality of marquees so far is a more apt comparison. Not sure that we are behindYokohama anyway, theres been nothing to suggest we are. -
This thread atm.

He's pretty old. I can hear the howls of despair already...

This is absolutely the be-all and end-all in the expansion debate. Anything else is smoke and mirrors. The constant coming and going of sides in the old NSL was hugely detrimental to the game and having the likes of Gold Coast and North Queensland going under is not something the A-League needs to repeat itself. The other argument i guess is having a level playing field, but it appears we are moving more and more away from the salary cap as it is.

No. That only came from the guest stint articles where it was indicated that we'd 'already signed a big name player for 2016-17' . My guess is that its someone already under contract if true, hence the lack of rumours.

That was bloody amazing. Awesome, gripping TV. As a side note, if Adelaidedont make some decent attacking signings soon, they are nowhere near making the six.

Haha fair point. I do think Brattan will have a huge impact at DM tho. -

I dont think it was so much our defence man for man that was a problem last year. It was more so our system imo. It's about the same strength overall this year, perhaps improved due to the significant upgrade that is Brattan at DM, although we'll be much weaker aerially at this stage. I think we'll concede a bit from set pieces this year unless we can sign a good CB in the air. -
What? You mean it isn't the worst case scenario???

No joke, I think we'll really miss Paddy onfield this season.

Yeh i thought we were decent. 85% possession and a decent showing against a team that parked the bus wasnt too bad. Obviously conceding was disappointing but i still thought we were ok. Saw some good things from Brattan, Kamau and Fitz that whetted the appetite. -
Not 100% but i reckon we wouldnt be targetting the Geelong area with advertising in the same way Victory do. Its a key area for them. I honestly see more of our stuff in Melbourne than theirs, same goes for Ballarat. The one thing I reckon they do significantly better than us is the weekly spot on SEN. Ian Robson's weekly segment is something we dont do and something I reckon could really keep us relevant to old mate Joe Averagesportsfan. Think that might be a CFG directive rather than the club tho tbh.

Perhaps give this a look. https://www.facebook.com/AFLPls/?fref=ts Lel

From my experience in renting cars, Toyota are by far the most reliable across the board. You have to pay for them though. Lancer's and Commodore's are probably the best value for money, although outside a Commodore and a newer model Cruze, I'd steer clear of any other Holden's in general. Mazda 3 is a nice vehicle for the option too. Falcon's probably look nicer than Commodores but are not as good overall and as for European cars, great until something goes wrong, then its $$$$$. Can't comment on any Honda's, never driven one.

Lel theres no way Bruno's going anywhere. You only have to look at his twitter posts to deduce that, not to mention JVS confirming it yesterday. Jovan is most likely on the money, its likely already done or waiting on some sort of visa issue to be resolved.

Watched the whole series of The Night Manager on the way back from Dubai. Tom Hiddleston is the main character with Hugh Lawrie as the chief villain. Its more of a mini series than an ongoing series but rated it really highly. Worth a look.

At a guess ; Sorensen Muscat Chapman Malik Clisby Brattan Brandan. Caceras Kamau. Fornaroli. Fitzgerald -
Absolutely it could, but it would probably been the attention is on us anyway. If we are flying but Cahill isnt, that could make for interesting times. Anyway something something any publicity good publicity

We're not going to tap into any Geelong market by playing friendlies there. Victory have already been there, done that. Same reason that Kewell didnt attract new supporters when he came to Heart like he did for the Mongs. The only way we attract Geelong supporters, or supporters from anywhere thats already been exposed to elite football in Victoria is by having a team thats a) brilliant to watch - we achieved that in 2015-16 b ) wins - getting there but still to be achieved and c) has a player that people want to see. Eurosnobs arent going to jump for Cahill. It's not the market they are targeting with him. The Cahill demographic is your average sports fan that only really watches soccer during the world cup. AFL supporters and cricket fans. And IMO, thats a bigger market than the Eurosnobs. Its also much more fickle fwiw. And moreso than any instant gate increases, Cahill will ensure city are grabbing headlines every week because its he that attracts Joe Averagesportsfan's attention. Unprecedented media presence is what Cahill brings to the table, and in that respect he will be better than Del Piero or Villa ever were.
