InMyHeart
Why have we not been able to apply or enter the newly formed 2 tier Victorian premier league? I see CCM and Newcastle have teams. Would be ideal for us to play 11 youth from our systems....
Tommykins
I'm not sure its a matter or not able as opposed to didn't. There was a huge push back when we tried to enter the Victorian system the first time.
malloy
I thought the plan was eventually to have the youth teams in the competition
Murfy1
As Tommykins says, there was a lot of pushback when Heart tried to play in a state-league in the off seasons a few years ago. And the latest reports I've seen talking about Heart playing in the NPL suggest this is still a problem: [FFV Chief Executive Mitchell] Murphy also gave Melbourne Heart and Melbourne Victory’s youth teams no assurances despite FFA declaring it wanted all A-League youth teams in the NPL by 2015. http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/football/after-10-months-of-consternation-victorian-federation-to-sign-off-on-national-premier-league-structure/story-fnii0fc4-1226823954533 Thankfully, it's a fairly safe bet that the FFA will win out, and Heart will be playing in the NPLV/state league next season. Next season, or in a year's time? Is it late to be looking into sorting this out by September, or does the FFA like to rush things through? Also, second question: would this result in the NYL team fading out, or is the idea to operate three teams? The NPLV started a few weeks ago, effectively runs in the A-League off season, so in a year's time.

Murfy1
Also, to answer your second question the team in the NPLV will effectively be the youth or NYL team. Because the NYL season is so short (only 18 games), the plan has been to make sure that young players play as many games as possible, and get used to the rigors of professional senior football. Heart actually got permission to field the youth team in the state league last season, but after an angry and pathetic backlash from state league clubs the state football body (FFV) revoked that arrangement (for those interested, the info is here http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/north/clubs-furious-over-hearts-ffv-entry/story-fngnvocb-1226581211554 and http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leader/north/melbourne-heart-has-invitation-to-join-state-league-2-revoked-by-football-federation-victoria/story-fnglenug-1226581180760). Thankfully it looks pretty likely now that Heart's youth team will feature in the NPLV next year, and the unfortunate politics in the state league should be overcome. Falastur
How many games do NPLV teams play?
Fentonthescreamingcactus
How many games do NPLV teams play? 26 matches and there is also a national finals series against teams from other state completions. Falastur
Mmm... That'd be a lot of games to play to fulfill their NYL fixtures too. Unless the idea is to have a bigger pool of players so individuals aren't starting every game but only every other one?
Tommykins
So both teams would start in NPLV 1? I've only been to two NPL 1 games at this stage and the standard wasn't all that crash hot.
Tesla
I think initially, both the NYL and NPLV teams will play. Maybe one day the length of the NPLV season will increase or it's start and end will be aligned with the A-League, at that point the NYL will probably go. There is no doubt that this is an aim of the FFA. Edited April 15, 2014 by cadete
