  1. 35 years old. Doubt it. Tend to agree. Just can't see him getting better at his age.
  2. Guys settle really... It meant nothing and that's the way we played it In all seriousness though, McLaren was the only player to really lift his game , whilst Vukovic kept them in the match in the first half. We do need to learn to score though, but overall I am not fussed. Keeping players fit was more important than winning, which will hopefully see us ready for the business end of the season.
  3. Starting XI (@MelbourneCity) | Velaphi (GK), Clisby, Kisnorbo, Chapman, Retre, Germano, Paartalu, Mooy, Koren, Williams, Novillo #PERvMCY Subs (@MelbourneCity) | Redmayne (GK), Ramsay, Murdocca, Mauk, Marino #PERvMCY #Final180 From: https://twitter.com/melbournecity -------- Why play all your first choice players? This should be a great opportunity to play Marino and Mauk in particular, but even Ramsey might as well get a chance to start. Strange logic to take a risk with further injury issues for key players if theres very little to gain.
  4. What's Milos' attitude like? There must be something that is holding clubs back from signing him.
  5. So many changes that can be made. The decision on the manager must be key though prior to any other considerations.
  6. The connections that CFG bring certainly help boost our political appeal
  7. I can see why people can feel disconnected, but at the same time I also don't quite get it. Many seemed to connect to the struggling, small club mentality that we had, which also brought calls for owners to open their wallets and spend cash. The new owners may have changed the name, and added blue to the colours, but they spent cash, built a competition leading training complex and made it a far more professional club. Have they got it right all the time? No way, but the club was likely headed for some turbulent times under its former owners. The constant negativity that the club was close to folding, was on the market or whatever story that was written each day was more than demoralising. The underdog tag worked for some but it sure had its downsides overall. I agree that connecting to the fans must be a key for next season though, but getting the clubs foundations right was likely their priority first. Whether that was wise is hard to tell, but it was a big task ahead of them when they took over to rebuild the club.
  8. His hold up play is good, but his lack of movement and fitness are a liability. Added to that we do rely far too much on the long ball to him when he is on. It's not the smart pass on most occasions, it's purely a hopeful option. I can see what he is trying to do, but his inability to press and take the rare chances he gets is an issue.
  9. Why does the results show the U/20's game against Moreland city in round 3 as a 3-0 win to Moreland City? The result was 5-1 yet it appears we lost it for whatever reason. Any info on that?
  10. Boring??? Really? That was one of the more exciting matches I've seen in the league this year. Constant action, attacking football and great goalkeeping displays from both teams. Just because we didn't win and no goals were scored, it was far from boring.
  11. Yep, it's the reality in the face of MV's solid market position and the general nature of our competitive sporting landscape in this city.
  12. Got to say at least it added some noise to the north end of the stadium. The police and security attention did seem far too excessive, but it's up to these guys to chat to the club and work out a strategy if they want to continue such a group there. It just seems too hard for our active support group (Yarraside and now Melburnians) to maintain a unified agenda and strategy. It just seems to fracture too easily.
  13. Today's attendance is about all I was expecting. Sunday night matches at this time of year are a hard sell, especially when you consider a big AFL match was on across the road. It appears we do need star power to get crowds. We need to do the bold moves to get attention, just as Villa was for us. That hype was worth a considerable premium on our usual media attention and general public attendance. We didn't make the most of that this time though. We continued on our underperforming ways and then the debacle around his shirt stay took a lot of oxygen from any momentum we could have gained.
  14. I think it's really irrelevant if it's 7th or 10th. Missing the finals is a lost season anyway. Remember that Essendon missed the finals and were placed into 9th spot a couple of years ago due to their supplements issues. Does it really matter, other than saving face for the bottom team? Would be interesting if we had promotion and relegation though to see what they would do.
  15. I feel that JVS' inability to deliver the CFG style is the only reason he ended up changing his tactics. It's more about covering over the cracks in his ability to deliver. Can adding new players next year help him achieve it? Can't see it, as he seems to have a habit of not getting the best out of his squad as it is.
  16. One can only hope we still finish about Brisbane so that people don't ferl we only got to the finals due to the Glory's issues. Added to that, the Glory still have 7 days to appeal, so there's still some options there to draw this out.
  17. This to me suggests JVS will not be keeping his job. Or maybe thats just wishful thinking It will depend how he can spin the season (ie. injuries, making do with what he had). One would only hope they see through that reasoning.
  18. Just amazing that we are playing a brand of football that is polar opposites to what CFG want, yet JVS still appears to be in the frame to keep his job. If we were even close to that philosophy then fans would at least see progress, but it just seems odd that this manta that the CEO was going on about seems to have missed Melbourne completely. Parked bus, counter attacking, bad ball possession and passing..... The list goes on.
  19. Mitch Nicols = No thanks. His attitude alone should be enough to say no to that one. We need some positive influences in the playing group, not someone that loses focus at any moment.
  20. Of course. Elements of such behavious have occured in many sports over the years. The issue is that we need to show fans of our sport can be trusted before the police and security decide to be less hands on. Looking at other sports and pointing fingers at their past events won't get us far.
  21. I just find Kennedy's lack of pace and fitness does not allow him to run out matches, pressure defenders enough or offer much in our transitions. Yes, he may not be getting great service from out wide but other elements of play in his control have been letting him down too. His hold up play has been the key strength he has offered so far, but taking the opportunities he has had in front of goal have been less than amazing.
  22. I didn't even realise it has been sent out. I guess I better check my email for once "The need for Police and security education about football culture" I can see where you are going with that, but at times I think some fans of our sport need a reality check. Thats not the Police's fault, as it is the actions of a few fans (throughout the sport, not just Melb City) that ruin things for everyone. Bringing flares, starting fights and other anti-social behaviour can not be brought under the excuse of "football culture".
  23. I hope he can get a contract with us for next season. I think he has shown enough to deserve it.
  24. Remember that the Champions Cup in July was actually signed by the previous govt, but making it look like it was his work and building on that will be good for Dan. CFG being a global organisation can open up many doors, but focusing on further Gulf investment would be very big business if it can achieve it through these pathways. The amount of capital the exists in Abu Dhabi alone is huge, especially with significant infrastructure projects required in this state. As was said during the Asian Cup, our game is a huge vehicle for global business opportunities that can not be matched by any otther sport. As for what else CFG can bring to the game for football specifically, one would think that they have a lot more plans for the Acay and further infrastructure, but as had been pointed out recently (I think it was by Crag Foster), the biggest benefit they could do is by providing free development opportunities for juniour players. This has apprently been done by them in Manchester, and it would make our club a far more attractive option. It would allow not just those that can pay to play but other talent that currently can not afford to do so a chance to develop.
  25. That's the type of player he is. If he passes it constantly we would likely say he isn't doing enough to attack, so I am happy to see him being such a threat up front.
