Popular Post LR9 Posted April 18, 2014 Popular Post Report Share Posted April 18, 2014 I was genuinely saddened to learn a short time ago that Dylan Tombides passed away yesterday. I still remember how brilliant he was for the Joeys in the U17 WC, just before he was diagnosed. I watched on with everyone else through his public fight with cancer, and it was heartening and eye-opening watching a kid go through something like that. Tbh, I honestly didn't even know he was so sick again. Such a loss for both club and country, he was one of our brightest talents, but first and foremost to his friends and family. Every now and then we hear of news like this which brings right back down to Earth and makes all the little things in life seem so insignificant. Always had a soft spot for Aussies at West ham and always kept tabs on Dylan, he fought off cancer to play again (and dominate again) only to be struck down in the end The guy had serious talent, and was highly regarded by Tony Carr amongst others at hammers. People within Aus set up regarded him as 'the next Harry Kewell' but he was a different unit entirel. His doctors and hammers staff said he'd never come back and play and he did. He was a brave and strong guy and I'm shocked and sad he has passed. I always hoped he would make regular football for the Hammers and he had the talent to surpass that. Genuinely believe he could have been the solution to Aus striker talent. I remember my absolute excitement when he was named on the bench for our last game when we got relegated a few years back. That's now replaced with a heavy sadness. Thoughts are with his family, especially his mum who all stuck by him the whole way. As a west ham and australian football fan I respected and admired his courage to battle through the illness and I'd thought he was through the worst of it. West Ham supporters clubs around Australia are raising funds for the Bobby Moore Cancer Research Fund in memory of the lad. Good see a minutes silence for him at the CCM v Adelaide game. Watching it live I thought it was a moving and respectful moment with both the whole ground applauding.
