  1. I agree. IMO the reaction of people to a Twitter rumour is absurd. Execution without trial.
  2. Wow, people are harsh on here. No appointment announced yet, but people already implying that someone like Warren Joyce isn't good enough for us. He was good enough to be given a 3+ years contract at Wigan and inherited a squad put together by a previous manager and wasn't able to turn things around - by my reading that's his only failure. Kenny Lowe - just as an example - had experience with glamour clubs Gateshead and Barrow before coming to Perth as an Assistant Coach, and isn't doing too bad with Perth so far. CFG aren't happy with the culture at Melbourne City, and they're looking for a coach who has the qualities to deal with that. IMO we should wait until an announcement comes and give whoever it is a fighting chance, rather than writing someone off based on what is so far a rumour.
  3. So, do we have a clear "no. 1" with Galekovic and Bouzanis on our books for the next two seasons?
  4. I, for one, would like to wish Paulo all the very best for the future. IMO he always acquitted himself well when he was in a City shirt in whatever role he was called on to play. Full-back or midfield - didn't matter. Always gave his best for us. Every club needs reliable "squad" players like him - I'll be interested to see how he's replaced.
  5. I think it was actually released on the club web-site before Galekovic, even though it hit this forum afterwards.

  7. Re-signed for another season. http://www.melbournecityfc.com.au/article/melbourne-city-fc-re-signs-midfielder-anthony-caceres/2nrzxfj5xdxx1ryj1poekw7k2
  8. IIRC the full-season guest marquee was for one season only. It does not apply for 2017-18 or thereafter unless FFA decides to do so. It was done to get Cahill into the A-League in the twilight of his career, and City was the only club prepared to stump up the cash. AFAIK Cahill will be on a wage of $400,000 for the 2017-18 season, to be accommodated inside the cap. The third year of his contract is in a coaching position, not as a City player.
  9. I didn't realise that welfare payments were so high that recipients could afford memberships.
  10. Re. Troisi. With only 17 players maximum signed for next season, including Brandan who is unlikely to play until late in the season if at all, and also including 3 very young players whose status is unclear to me, with only two visa places open, and no signings announced so far, we have to sign some quality Australian players. I thought he was likely to go to Brighton in the EPL?
  11. Did you go via this page? http://www.melbournecityfc.com.au/about/volunteers/dn76ods9fx9o1voxq1rt8ybc9 Are you a member? If you are, I wouldn't be afraid to ring the club and ask to speak to someone who deals with volunteers. My experiences with the club suggest to me that e-mails are unlikely to get a response, but usually the people manning the telephones are quite helpful.
  12. Does PK have the necessary formal coaching qualifications?
  13. I have hidden four posts. I don't think we really want to know that sort of stuff.
  14. Maybe I'm cynical (yes, I am) but I'd believe the above it is wasn't for the highlighted sentence. I somehow doubt that with CFG things such as appointments just "fall through." IIRC Munn and Petrillo were in Manchester in the middle of May - probably a month ago now - to talk about the manager and players for next season and to conduct manager interviews. The only way I can see the first choice for manager not going ahead is if that choice obtained a similar job in a better league, because I don't think CFG would be outbid in any other respect if they really wanted someone. That said, IMO we do have to announce something in the next 14 days or so. AFAIK the round of 32 matches are 25th July-9th August. It's the draw that is on 29th June. Plenty of time.
  15. Not sure what I think. Is the support really there - we have only a rump women's league? Is FFA spreading its resources too thinly?
  16. We could have pulled the same stunt with Anthony Caceres, and there would be no "Caceres rule." IMO Barbarouses should not be allowed to play for Victory for one season. Isn't he a Kiwi anyway?
  17. I changed "good news day" to "clear news day" in the quoted post, which was what I should have used in the first place. I changed my original at the same time. I hope no offence taken.
  18. You're right. I mustn't fret. This week we're promised updates from the "Young Leaders" get-together in Manchester.
  19. I no longer know what to think. Each passing day makes me wonder more about WTF is going on at Bundoora. I can't see the point in waiting for the "clear news day" to announce a new Melbourne City coach, because there will always be a news story that the media would see as more important than that. In fact I would think it better to announce it while at least some members of the general public are actually thinking about football for a change - piggy-back on Argentina, Brazil, Messi etc. rather than wait for the hype to die down. I would have thought that after the miserable end to last season the club would have been trying its hardest to maintain and generate interest in Melbourne City. At the moment it just appears to be a club that can't make decisions.
  20. Are you a paid-up member? Maybe those of us who have paid pretty expensive memberships feel somewhat pissed off and feel we should get more out of the club than twitter shit about Cahill and Munn. It's just general spleen-venting - normal for this stage of the pre-season.
  21. What a missed opportunity not to have a members function/open day or equivalent at CFA this week while the Argentinian squad was based out there. FMD, the club can retweet a picture of Munn holding the Stradbroke Handicap trophy but hasn't got a bloody clue of how to connect with members.
  22. Michael Mifsud had 28 minutes as a substitute for Malta last night. Lost 2-0 to Slovenia.
  23. The trouble is that all you guys are taking the whole City/engage with fans thing too seriously. You've got it all wrong. The really important news breaks on Scott Munn's Instagram.
  24. TTIM and UOTYH: The whole Cahill/City thing gives me the shits except when he scores for us.
