He went too early. Another season or even two in the A-League was what he needed. And I'm not impressed by Manchester City's management of him. From the warmth of summer football in Australia to winter football in Glasgow?

I’m not impressed by Arzani’s management of himself. His attitude seems to have been most of the problem.

Its still not too late to turn it around  (having Arnold in his corner has helped) but the clock is ticking.

Private equity typically only invest for the short to medium term and tend to have high internal rate of return hurdles. I have to say I’m surprised they would do this.

The A League has lurched from one challenge to the next since it started with lots of false dawns. Hopefully this cash injection will “take the game to the next level” but I’ll hold off buying the champagne myself.

  3. I think you missed a few things @NewConvert.

Mr Garotti sounds like he’s in a great deal of trouble:

    1. There seems to be about 100k in double counting grants.

2.there is the case of awarding tenders to mates (70k).

    3. There is employing people on the government payroll because they are mates.

Not my ideas, Mr Garotti agreed this with counsel.

Earlier days included people employed by the government/taxpayer  (as electoral officers) doing political (factional) work

people employed by the taxpayer not turning up at all

and a few other things they may be able to weasel out of like vast sums on stamps spent on nefarious purposes and unauthorised access of the electoral roll.

Obviously the blatant breach of alp rules  and complete absence of ethics in all the branch stacking shenanigans is embarrassing for the ALP themselves, though not illegal.

The Nationals must be the biggest collection of fuckwits ever. Addressing climate change is a huge opportunity for the rural sector, not a threat.

Actually they are the only ones with any brains.

Theyll all be unemployed if they stick with Bill Morrison

In other news anyone else watching IBAC with interest?

Going to be quite a few charges out of this the way it’s going.

Would have been interesting to see Nabbout on the wing instead of Karacic.. He could have bodied them easily. Even throw Leckie in their and macca off the bench in the second half... Would have been handy inclusions at 1-1..

not going to happen whilst we are in a Covid 19 prison. Signs are the prison gates are opening in NSW, so next year it could be possible I guess.

Daniel Arzani is getting game time (averaging 65 minutes or thereabouts) as a starter for Lommel in the Belgian First Division B - actually the second division of Belgian football. No goals.

    He's going nowhere.

This is actually great. The bloke hasn’t played regularly for about 2 years.

Now I don’t where his comeback will end up, but he does need to start somewhere.

Ryan was the sole reason we didn't lose by 3 or 4 tbh.

Aziz was dreadful, but Sainsbury and Souttar weren't far behind him. Defensively terrible, while the mids were okay but couldn't get the ball out wide often enough due to the insane Japanese press.

And just like that, we go from cruising in the group to suddenly finding ourselves with a must-win clash against the Saudis. Crazy.

You had overestimated our position pre-game. We’d won 3 with 7 games to play, ok good start, but long way to go and we’d played the 3 weakest teams in our group.

Our lads are well coached and they try hard but they lack polish, so it will be hard work all the way.

Never bought into the hype as he had the turning circle of the titanic and he had a big opinion of himself. I think that the current crop of young players are better trained and fitter than when he came through. Yeboah was another one and maybe Da Silva. Once they get to the leagues with bigger rosters then they really have to work hard to get a spot and he just didn't come into play.

The attitude (which you reference) seems to be the biggest issue with Eli.

The rumour mill suggests he thought he’d arrived when all he’d done was get an opportunity to work harder.

Jets have really thrown him a lifeline here. I wish him well.

Another domino falls. Newcastle United sold to Middle Eastern interests (80% holding).

The Premier League, Newcastle United Football Club and St James Holdings Limited have today settled the dispute over the takeover of the club by the consortium of PIF, PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media.

Following the completion of the Premier League's Owners' and Directors' Test, the club has been sold to the consortium with immediate effect.

The legal disputes concerned which entities would own and/or have the ability to control the club following the takeover.

All parties have agreed the settlement is necessary to end the long uncertainty for fans over the club’s ownership.

The Premier League has now received legally binding assurances that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not control Newcastle United Football Club.

    Crikey.
I’m thinking if you’re the manager you’d probably be happy if getting sacked was the worst that happened after a string of losses.

It's hard for everyone, but if we start opening up with hospitals at or overcapacity, don't expect much quality healthcare for any health issue until 2023. There will already be long-term repercussions with staff burnout, paramedics and nurses will be in very short supply for years after the pandemic, doctors are taking extended leave. This is the situation we have been trying to avoid.

I work as a volunteer in a support network for frontline health professionals, I can tell you that it is already very concerning.

Vaccines aren't mandated, just mandated if you want t continue to work. It sounds like a semantic difference, but where we are heading is a situation where we'll have continued restrictions on those who have cooperated with health advice in order to protect those that don't give a shit about the community.

If you don't want to be vaccinated then please don't, but stay home for your own safety and for the safety of those that have taken on the personal risk of vaccination.

I see where you’re coming from in regards to the health system bela, my problem is that Andrews has had almost 2 years to prepare for this, promised to do so (4000 extra icu beds) then done nothing. Now his “solution” is to lock me, you and everyone else up some more. Having already set a world record for lockdowns.

So our freedom is dependent on his competence. In short we’re fucked.

  11. Sturridge is a massive massive signing for the league. He’ll draw a lot of attention.

Football wise not sure what he’s been up to, but I’m assuming even a few years on he’ll be a major force in the league. Problem for Perth is, I thought they needed to replace the 46 year old Castro, rather than duplicate Fornaroli. It does make you wonder what Garcia’s match plan will be (and how long before he’s fired).

Anyway, regardless, I’m looking forward to seeing one of my favourite players grace the A League.
