I'd say that a start to the season won't be any time soon, and even if it does go ahead as planned there won't be any spectators.

    I’d assume they’ll start.
As the only true national competition the A League has a lot more challenges than  the others, but being a summer league is really paying off during border closure fever.

    Crowds? Perhaps in some places.

Relocation of Wellington and Perth to Australian locations will again be on the agenda.

We do this to our starlets on a regular basis. Players look as though they have the world at their feet and end up scrambling around in the NPL. Even at club level we need to be careful - for example with Tilio and Cola.

It’s a bloody tough business. For every Timmy Cahill* there’s 20 Paul Reids*
    * Not even (what is now) NPL interest as a youth prospect
** At the AIS rated by the experts as “better than Kewell”

As somebody in their mid-twenties, it is absolutely not just the boomers holding out. I’m fully vaccinated, but I know so many people my age who either “don’t trust it” or are “waiting for the Pfizer”. I think that if you’re young, healthy and have a stable income, lockdown makes a lot of young people feel very safe from the virus and happy to avoid facing the reality of it all. If we were to give some kind of plan of how we move out of restrictions and rejoin the rest of the world, it will probably give a lot of people the kick up the arse they need to actually go get it imo.

They definitely need a kick up the arse. Lockdowns pander to this mindset. Announce an opening date, that’ll get their attention.

As to social media virtue signalling I see so many people do because you got vaccinated, give me a break, get vaccinated to reduce your odds of fucking dying not for social kudos.

Just worked out that the Paramount App will not be on any TV older than 5 years (at least Samsung)

This is really poor and limiting.  A 5 year old TV is not too old ... chromecast is a lessor option and does not stream anywhere near as well

My TV is heaps older than that.

Pretty much what I was expecting.

That was an entertaining action packed game and ET stepped it up a notch.

Very true. Kerr equalising at the death was a huge moment, as was micah’s pen save. Into the semis now, which is really the big time.

I have never witnessed any racial behaviour at an A-League match. In the old NSL I did see UDF twats spouting shite. And in social media overseas leagues seem to have a fair bit. Also older folks than me seem to recall that the croatian and serbian clubs had their moments in the past. Not sure today.

However, as an AFL fan, it has always been prevalent and I would rather have the A-League be proactive rather than reactive as is the AFL.

And rather than use the term 'white' the formal term is Caucasian.

Likewise never observed racism at the A League.

Really the only time I can remember hearing anything like that was at a Rugby League game on the Gold Coast almost 40 years ago. It was the Gold Coast rep side vs Souths (of Brisbane) and the abuse was directed to a legend of the game playing for Souths. pretty ordinary.

  7. I reckon on balance the APL did well last year.

They managed to run a truly national comp without hubs and even showed a sceptic like me that it actually was possible for Perth to play a full season without relocating to the East Coast.

All this without being on premier’s speed dials. Based on that, I’m confident they’ll make a decent fist of next season.

  8. One of the problems was 3 games in heat in a week. We needed to rotate the squad but lacked the depth to do so. When we couldn’t get anything against Spain (I’m not in the “we played defensive camp”, rather we were comprehensively out played) we were in big trouble.

When I look back to 2016 we’ve come a long way. Qualifying isn’t easy and we did so and won a group game. Even so we still need better players coming through, hopefully they are at a younger age.

Horrendous stuff. We don't even look like scoring

We started horrendously but improved to average after the first 20 minutes. Still making a lot of poor passes that become giveaways though.

To be honest the score flatters us I think. We’ll need to improve again to get back on level terms.
