  1. I'd imagine most of what we will be saving on JVS' wages won't be reinvested. Will just reduce losses.
  2. Hardly park the bus. Long ball yes but your boys form isn't exactly stellar atm. Lose this and your auto promotion spot is in serious danger. Birmingham are moving up fast. Is going to be a three horse race for the top two spots. Should make for some good viewing in the coming months.
  3. Agree it's time for some more youth to be given a go. We need a win desperately this week. We win and some confidence will return in time for Mate, Hoff and Behich's return. Is the kind of thing that could re ignite our season. Bolton Marronne Hamill Colosimo Goodwin Germano Paterson Fred Williams Babalj Terra Subs: Mattei, Shroj, Reid, Walker
  4. I would imagine we would have to pay out the rest of his contract. I hardly think that it is viable for a club of Heart's ilk to throw away money by releasing a manager. We are a few rounds from the end of the season and still in a finals place. It is right now we need to be getting down to it and pushing hard to turn things around. Bar yesterday and phoenix we could have walked away with three points in most of the other games in our down turn of late. Releasing the manager now makes no sense when it is so important we make the finals. Worry about the management the day we are knocked out of this years league.
  5. www.freefootball.eu If it isn't on there it isn't being telecast anywhere. Is an awesome website for all sports streaming.
  6. Charlton are gypsies. Change homes every few years. As for WHUFC, The club has been through a torrid time with the icelandics fucking everything up. The David's are doing great things to get us back to where we should be. Relegation may end up being the best thing. We have at least purged our wage bill of money pinching hacks like Keiron Dyer and Gabbidon. Expect us to go up but will need to make a fair few decent signings to keep us up. Not looking forward to the next few years of Allardyce hoofball though. Regardless of what division we are in.
  7. Yeah most aus lagers are essentially shit pilsners. I was referring more to true to style efforts from australia. You will never get the same results without real hops being involved. Brewed a batch of amber ale based ginger beer today. Hopefully will turn out ok. Also experimenting with some Kilju. Shit is fucking raw. OJ, Sugar and Yeast. In a few weeks time I should have 10 percent abv Orange Juice.
  8. Taseski and Zahra deserve our patience and hope they will go on to have an impact for heart. Don't know about Ibrahim atm. I've only seen him play once this year in the NYL game v Perth and he looked terrible. No confidence to run at his man, over hit all of his crosses and tended to hide rather than demand the ball. Haven't heard anymore positive reports from others so far this season. I can't see where Kalmar has further development in his game. He seemed to start well for us then just plateau will need a good season next year to earn another contract.
  9. I still think we are on the right track in many leagues around the world having the best youth system will often lead to having the strongest club. Yes it's not always the case but we are already attracting some of the better young players based on our approach Babalj and Dugandzic as they know that if they are good enough they will be given more than enough of a chance to succeed. The more players like Goodwin, Behich (players discarded by there previous clubs, or not even given a chance) start succeeding within our system the more attractive we will become to these talented kids. This will only start to bring potential transfer fees and produce plenty of players who may not move on to europe who will remain loyal to the club. It is hard to see the fruits of the initial labour that has gone into the club early but the most successful clubs are the ones with a strong identity and philosophy would be stupid now to drop the approach that is developing within the club for the sake of immediate results. On the field we have shown that we are more or less only two signings away from being one of the top clubs. I still think JVS' only mistake in our two years was not signing an experienced CB at the beginning of this season to a permanent deal. Proud of myself for making it through this entire post without referring back to Ajax. It was hard.
  10. Rotterdam is a shit hole. Fuck Feyenoord
  11. So every goal we have scored this season has been the result of Eli Babalj getting the ball on the half way line, turning his marker, skinning three players and shooting from 18 yards into the top corner? Takes an entire team to score. If any aspect of a team can struggle and the team still win it's the forwards. If the defence is tight and you don't concede you can't lose. Then it only takes 1 goal to win a game. Is daft to say attackers are more needed than defenders. Give me 1-0 over 3-4 any day of the week.
  12. Been behind a bar ever since I turned 18. First through the West country of Somerset and Dorset as a naive 18year old who had to learn the hard way that Scrumpy is the nectar of the gods. I defy anyone to spend any time in the West Country and tell the massive farmers there that cider is for girls. Japanese Beers aren't something i've had a lot of but they are starting to find more of a market so more brews are becoming available which can only be a good thing. I remember reading somewhere that the laws were only changed to allow small breweries in the late 80's or early 90's. The best brewery's from Japan that I have tasted different styles from are definitely Baird's Beers and Kiuchi Brewery's brand Hitachino's Nest. Baird's Beers are usually more american in style. Based on the fact they are run by an American where as though Kiuchi are a really interesting brewery who do really innovative beers and also do great sake, shochu and umeshu under a different name can't remember it's name Kikasakiru or something like that. The Hitachino's Nest group of beers are by far the stand out japanese beers i've ever tasted. For starters I reccommend there Espresso Stout, Nipponnia Ancient Ale and there Red Rice Ale. I've tried other one offs from Japan that I can't really remember names for though if they come to me i'll let you know. Best alcohol to come from Japan though is Shochu, Umeshu and Yamazaki Whiskey. Australia seems to struggle with Pilsners for some reason. I always go for the Mac's Hop Rocker which is a kiwi brew. Little Creatures has a tasty pilsner but I always end up resorting to the pale. Bootleg in WA do a decent effort and I tried one from a vic brewery called Holgate a few weeks ago that was worth a tipple. Pilsner seems to be a non-starter on the aussie market. You will rarely see any of the original pils by toohey's or coopers in stock at your local bottle-o these days. I guess there hoppy character can be a bit over bearing in the aussie heat. Never understood this as IPA's seem to be the big selling ale's atm and there IBU ratings are usually pretty high.
  13. Don't think I made any broad comments like if you don't like a DM you can't comment on tactics. There are plenty of shit DM's and If Shroj was shit at breaking up attacks and getting his foot in then I would slate him too because it's all he brings to the team. If Shroj was playing at a higher level I would say he was shit as well. However, for A-league standards he is a consistant performer in his role. Nothing more, nothing less. Your point about not neccassarily needing a DM is valid but not within the context of how Heart set up. Shroj's midfield destroyer role is probably more important than one of the wingers having an off game. We set up to have lots of options going forward so one winger being out of form will impact the team far less than Shroj getting skinned every couple of minutes. Once counter attacks move past Shroj the attacking side only has the back four in front of them usually. Our slow build up play leaves us particularly vulnerable to quick counter attacks. If we don't have Shroj or Germano playing that role we would concede 3-4 goals fairly regularly. So your point about not needing a DM in the context of Heart seems quite bizarre to me. But thats the joys of football people see the game quite differently. You obviously come from the if you score 3 i'll score 4 school of football. Unfortunately we aren't set up for go for broke score 4-5 goals a game either. For what it's worth when we have a fully fit midfield contingent i'd set up with Germano, Fred, Thompson. With Germano sitting deeper. Just because his better passing range outweighs Shroj's slightly better ability at breaking up plays. As for Williams I think it's harsh saying he is straight out shit. He has shown in the past he can play. He is struggling atm but has plenty of chances before the season is out to set things right. Maybe a change in manager will do him some good.
  14. Every Little Creatures batch of pale will be slightly different they change up the amounts of the different hops each season to lean the beer towards that season. Also depends if you are drinking from tap or bottle. I do live in the Creatures heartlands though so possibly slightly bias. My uni is a 2 minute walk from the Little Creatures brewery and bar. I directly blame the bar for my low academic grades over the past 3 years.
  15. Hoping the boys get up for this one. A few of the lads from work are Novacastrians. That and we desperately need three points.
  16. Is usually a litmus test on football knowledge as to how fans rate DM's. Shroj is consistantly at his level. Can't ask for much more. He is an A-league level DM who sticks his foot in and wins the ball or at least makes sure the opposition doesn't move it past him. If he was better in other areas he quite simply wouldn't be playing in this league. He is the kind of player managers will like because you know what you are getting from him every time he goes out on the park. If you could say that about the rest of our squad we would be in a far better position than we are. He cops it because he sprays some passes and can be caught on the ball. But in his primary role of winning the ball back he is more than acceptable. Williams has been frustrating this season but we know he is capable of excellent things at this level. We have him on a long term contract so to right him off or sack him will only be a bad thing for the club. If we get one crap season and two good seasons from him we still come out on top. I think he has struggled with not being the focal point of attacks as he was at FNQ. He then found himself out of the squad before having time to properly adjust. As with most players of his ilk once confidence takes a dive it can be a while before they return to the way can play because they begin playing with fear rather than off of instinct. Which is what I think we are seeing with Williams. It will only take one or two positive performances for things to change around though.
  17. New Order at Future Music. Life complete.
  18. Rekorderlig is barely cider. The flavouring is just a sugar syrup in cheap apple cider. Real men drink scrumpy cider. Old Rosie, Somerset Gold, Glastonbury. Best fizzy cider by far is:Thatchers Gold followed closely by anything else by Thatchers and then Stowford Press. If you want flavoured stuff check out Brother's cider. For beers: Knappstein Reserve Lager Guinness Mac's Hop Rocker Pilsener Badger Fursty Ferret Amber Ale Badger Poachers Select Ruby Ale Chimnay Red Hoegaarden La Fin Du Monde (think they stopped producing though ) Sierra Nevada Pale / IPA and of course Australia's finest. Little Creatures Pale Ale. Shame on everyone for not having mentioned Creatures yet. Now to get my bar nerd on: As for all the "properly poured Guinness" advocates. You mostly won't find it here in Australia due to the fact we all have our taps set at too higher speed for Guinness and the fact that most Aussie bars will just use standard 65/35 % mix of C02 to Nitrogen across all taps where as ales and stouts need higher levels of nitrogen usually 75%. Then their is the issue with the pouring, to get the head to have no bubbles in it you have to use the first stream from the tap which gives it the silky smoothness. However, if the gas is turned up too much the first stream splutters out and oxygenates that first pour leaving the bubbles. So quite often the bartender has no chance of getting a proper tasting guinness regardless of how they pour it. The nitrogen used to pour the Guinness is a major component of how a draught Guinness should taste. The proper way to pour a is to Guinness make the first pour just over 3 quarters to the top and pour it at an angle with the nozzle resting just above the inside of the glass and then left to sit until the head is fully formed usually just over 1.5 minutes but again depends on the speed of the taps and so on. The second pour is just straight in the top. I made a point of learning it when I was in Ireland because I was sick of every wanker and his dog telling you how you should properly pour a Guinness and usually they were about 1 miles off the correct answer.
  19. I think we are only one or two signings away from being a top 2 team. As is the entire league bar GCU to be fair. I think we need to get a manager in asap in pre-season so he has time to make decisions on the squad. Going down the road of signing players without a manager in place is a dangerous one. Out of our internationals I think only Germano and Fred have shown enough to be considered to stay on for next season. I'm guessing fred is on a multi year contract regardless. Terra even still would have to be 50/50. He has shown enough when he is fit to warrant his spot. But will he ever be fit consistantly enough? We can find a Worm replacement on similiar money and probably an Aussie too. He doesn't bring anything to the table that plenty of aussies wouldn't. And Maycon well yeah. Worst move of the off-season has to be releasing Sibon and signing Maycon. Sibon would have covered for Fred's injury far better than any of the current squad. Release Worm and Maycon and sign a CB and CF from Europe. Watch us win the league. Easy.
  20. Adrie Koster anyone? Left Brugges not that long ago and is currently unattached. Has coached almost every club in Holland including Ajax from youth team right the way up to first team. Would follow along the exact same lines as JVS.
  21. Ante Millicic for me. Knows the style and structure inside out. Would just remain to be seen whether he would have the tactical awareness to change things up with in the same system like we have seen JVS do countless times.
  22. Heat play in the middle of no where. Will keep you posted I think i'm going to a game on friday. Or possibly next friday can't remember what day he said it was. Which aces player should I heckle mercilessly?
  23. Pretty ironic a soton fan giving a football club financial advice. But yes essentially we are fucked if we dont go up this year. Best way for us to balance our books is with vast added income PL football brings. The porno kings are doing a great job of getting us out of the mess the icelandics left us in.
  24. Cmon the heaters. Considering going to one of the games. bunch of the lads who come to the Heart games in perth are big into their baseball and are going. I know sweet fuck all about baseball however.
