OK doesn't seem to be any more voters so Natel and Leckie get the three shared at 7 votes each, Young the two with 3 votes and Jakolis one with 1 vote. Jamie Young has joined Curtis Good at equal third with 12 for the season now and Jakolis has joined Sakhi at equal fourth (fifth?). One week left of regular season. I would like to know if you want me to continue this into finals if we get there.
@Le HackIt's up to you as far as I am concerned. I'm not sure, but don't we normally cut off at the end of the regular season? Who ran it last season - @neio?
So at the moment it's Arslan by a country mile, followed by Souprayen and then Good/Young.
Yes it should be:
1. Arslan
2. Souprayen|
3. Good/Young
5. Jakolis/Sakhi -

Does city still have GK coach? If Young is willing to be the back up option, then sign him for a year or two at reduced wages. Then bring in Beach and Nieuwhenhuizen both knowing that they will get minimum amount of minutes and we'll see who works out better.
Last we heard...we do. https://melbournecityfc.com.au/news/20240112-coaching-update/
Sander Krabbendam from Ajax, Netherlands. Probably via JvS who is the current Ajax Manager/Coach.

27th: Brisbane vs. Adelaide
28th: Newcastle vs. Central Coast
Wellington vs. Macarthur
Victory vs. WSW
29th: Sydney vs. Perth
City vs WesternPretty sure Sydney will beat Perth. However, should WSW topple Victory we need to win to retain 6th place, because a draw won't be sufficient even though we have a superior goal difference as WSW will have 11 wins to our 10.
WSW play first (which in my view should not happen for the final round of a season) which means we will know what we have to do.

A league women is starting at 1:00
A league men is starting at 5:00
I guess they did it in case the women go to extra time but to me it's poor scheduling. If the women finish at 3:00 you have to wait two hours for the men which finishes at 7:00
At least they won't be able to fudge the attendance at the women's match.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-22/matildas-womens-asian-cup-2026-victoria/103754414
This is the sort of thing that completely shits me about the management of Australian football.
$42m spent on a facility for the Women's National Team ("Matildas") at Bundoora. Then we don't lodge a bid to hold women's Asian Cup matches here in Melbourne.
https://www.footballvictoria.com.au/homeofthematildas/project-overview (website out of date - see "bookings."
This is why I say that these facilities are a total waste of time, resources, effort, and money. "So much paid by so many for so little" to paraphrase Sir Winston Churchill.

Hasn't made a single senior appearance yet so assuming he ain't ready yet.
He was playing NPL1 for the Mariners and is with the Olyroos...he's not ready?

And yet they still have the likely golden boot winner. How bad have the rest been?
They have scored as many or more goals than the top five. It's just that they have conceded so many.
In fact the whole league is interesting in terms of goals scored. As has been pointed out, in our case, if you take out three big scores then we have been decidedly ordinary.

Based on which Aussie GKs are coming out of contract, the only other one that would interest me would be Macklin Freke at Brisbane, apart from him I would rather keep Young or try and convince Langerak to come back to the ALM somehow.
Why sign Beach if you're just going to recycle?

I would more be keeping him for at least a season so we don't have to deal with another season of mass departures.
You just prolong the agony and the Academy graduates will go elsewhere.... City is crazy if it just keeps producing players for other clubs - we don't get anything for them. Caputo will go if he doesn't get match time.

I think Nabbout is dusted, he's on the wrong side of 30 and hasn't been effective for over a season or so now...time to find a replacement
Hasn't played a full match this season. Just 10 appearances for 433 minutes and no goals.
Contract employment can be cruel, but it's the reality of a professional footballer's life.

Confirm, he was walking the ground after the game with his son in his arms. Considering it was in NSW this was a good effort by Nabbout to be there. You'd think he's therefore likely to be with us next year if his season's done
I hope not. We need a rebuild and IMO it's best to start now, with a decent manager/coach, with the aim of getting us back at the top in 2-3 season's time. I also think that the fans will return if they can see a plan to give them hope.

He certainly has but has also cost us progression in the ACL. Distribution wise he is not a City goalkeeper, turn overrate from his long kicks is sitting over 90%.
I'm grateful for the saves but we need to refresh the squad so it's a No for me.
Glover cost us progression the season before. Interesting how we let Gauci go after stealing him from Adelaide and now he's in the NT. We don't really have a good record with the GK position. Even Tommy Sorensen fell out of favour in his second season.

What do we reckon about Jamie Young? No doubt that he's made some significant saves for us this season. Is he worth another season in the squad?

irrespective of the result, we always had a chance. personally, i would have rathered Sydney won since they have Perth at home next week while MacArthur travel to Wellington.
In any case, a win now for us against Western United and a failure by Sydney to win against Perth means we go 5th
I don't think Western will be a pushover for us, but I think Sydney will wallop Perth.

Nabbout was at the game against WSW and the commentator said that he had setback on his achilles and his season was over. He also said that both Tillio and Galloway remain on the injury list.
Osmosis is a wonderful thing....

And what happened to Andy? First he was playing, then he was on the bench, then he vanished.
Simple communication to the fans would be nice like publishing a simple weekly injury list, in the style of: player, injury, guesstimate duration.Mate, are you still living in cloud cuckoo land? This is Melbourne City we're talking about. You know, the one that can't even tell us about its Fan Representative Group? And you want "communication?" Have a heart. Oh, we had one of those once....

Tillio
Galloway

Surely all 3 are due back now?
@D.B. Cooper No idea. I've begun to wonder whether Nabbout and Tilio have already left the club...

How do the "finals play-offs" work this season? Who plays who?

So we host Western United next Sunday while the Wanderers are away to victory. Might not even need to beat the nomads next week.
Interestingly MacArthur play Sydney tonight and then Wellington away next week. Sydney host Perth next week. Both Sydney based teams are two points clear of us going into tonight.
Doubt we'd jump both but crazily we could finish 5th
Macarthur are leading Sydney 1-0 so at this stage it is mathematically possible for us to finish 5th.

Think it's their training ground/women's home ground. Sounded like they were yet to build the actual stadium...
It's probably big enough for them anyway as it is. They could always add more on the ends if the club grows it's supporter base...
5,000 at present. Could easily get to 15,000 with modular additions. Why spend more?

Jakolis is a waste of space when looked at over the entire season. Don't think he has a football brain at all.

Do we collapse now or in time added?

If only we had spread our goals over the season...

Do you mean plate and grand final or AFC Cup? They potentially could come away with all 3 trophies this season... 🤔
Did not expect this at all with the talent that departed the club! They have done well this season!
Quite frankly, City should be embarrassed at our season. As has been pointed out, take away the three big wins and we have been poor. Mariners, seemingly on the brink of financial difficulties all the time, have shown what can be done with club spirit, whereas we have become complacent.
Phoenix too have lived up to their name. A great season from them.
Congratulations to everyone concerned. Money ain't everything.

Sunday April 28th vs Nomad FC. 5:00pm KO
in Melbourne City

TBH I think it's pathetic. Just being different for the sake of it. Adds absolutely nothing whatsoever to the game. Just dickheads at the administration level.
