I still think there is a glaring need for a back up striker. If JMac goes down, or if God forbid we sub him when he is struggling we don't have another option at the moment that isn't a kid. There has to be an Aussie bloke around who can come in, know his role and fill a spot when needed

Got leckie who can play in that 9 a long with Tilio as a false 9, also got Sulemani and Caputo in the academy

Do you guys think we will sign a creative attacking midfielder with our last visa spot? What are our chances to sign Rogic? Do we have a marquee spot available?

Rogic would be great but don't think he is in a great place mentally right now so who knows when he will return to football, but someone who can compete with Berenguer and be as good as him if he gets injured is definitely required.

Sydney have made some really strong signings, while we've only signed a mid-table Eredivisie reject and a youth player.......

would not call VDV a Eredivisie reject, he was really good the past 2 seasons in holland and the fans of his club were upset that he left

I remain sceptic on many quality additions despite having squad spots available. I fear that we might have committed a fair bit of the salary cap on resigning Berenguer, Reis and existing deals of our forward 3 and Curtis Good.

Assuming that the money from Pucci has gone to VdV and the departure wages of Cola, Metcalf and Griffiths would not free up much space at all as these would have partly been outside the cap with youth and loyalty concessions.

Got to remember the new designated player rule which was brought in, we currently have both slots free and will use them both on most likely a defender and a midfielder

  4. seems like we want to use the 2 designated player slots on a centre back who can play cdm or vice versa and a right sided central midfielder makes sense with the defence last season looking a bit shaky and even though Berenguer had his best season with us he is 33 and although the technical ability may be there who knows how his body will do.

Agree with the above. I've heard the arguments both ways, but after disruptions caused by COVID and the disappointments over Pucci and Endoh, I do feel that the club needs a lift with at least one signing with a decent pedigree that the fans can enjoy watching.

Pucciarelli was a complete flop 100%, Endoh imo did his part on being depth for the ACL.

Renewed today, spoke to Ryan and he "mentioned" to look out for 2 new arrivals in next few weeks.

did he mention what positons or what country they are coming from?

Having now had the chance to watch a lot of highlights on Wyscout, instead of pay attention at all in the meetings I'm supposed to be in he looks a lot more like he's played a lot further forward than Metcalfe, with the vast majority of his work done in (or in some cases beyond) the striker, which would be different to the role that Metcalfe played (not that I think that's a horrible plan, to be honest, because Aiden O'Neill can function very capably as a lone defensive midfielder in our system next to a Berenguer).

I reckon he will play a very similar role to what KDB does at Man City, drifting wide on that left side with leckie cutting in, giving VDV the freedom to cross the ball into the box or drive in himself

  7. Realistically we are not gonna bring in a "bums in seat" kinda player due to 2 main reasons

    1. who is actually available who is of a good age and won't get injured on the spot

    2. we have no marquee slots left but we do have 2 Designated player slots which I believe Battocchio will probably go in IF we sign him

    Kind off agree.

I was convinced they were going to replace or even bring in but now with this new bloke they look like sticking with Glover.

For me this would be a mistake.

I believe Glover has potential, he has proved it, tbh no one knows how this will go, could be a PK masterclass bringing in a highly experienced GK coach or it could end up costing us, we will soon see

As the article suggested, plenty of opportunities to strengthen your squad, comes with a $ cost of course. I would like to think that our current marquees are under $600k per year so they are now allowed to be moved into the designated spots (who are still outside the cap). That leaves the door wide open for some top quality marquee players!!

cannot 100% confirm this but I believe both marquee slots are taken by Maclaren and Leckie whilst we have both Designated Player slots free, unless we decide to move a current player in one or both of them to free up cap space, but  ideally we would take advantage of the 2 free slots we have and sign some quality players

To remind myself not to get overhyped, I just read through the Pucciarelli thread (so much optimism at the start), but a true life tragedy!

It all depends on how PK rates him, otherwise may just end up as another witches hat at training

apparently Pucciarelli was not out of favour with PK, Pucciarelli apparently just could not get to the necessary fitness levels needed

We still might. I think the likely outcome here is that Glover is going to head elsewhere, or that we'll look to a 3rd keeper.

Sutton only on a 1 year deal so him being a third choice is not out of the question, glover could also be leaving but not sure where he would go tbh
