Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has tonight issued a thank-you to Everton FC after the club paid tribute to the 96 Reds fans who died at Hillsborough. Before their match with Newcastle United at Goodison Park on Monday night, the Blues united with the Reds as they paid their respects. Everton were led out by two mascots - one wearing the blue kit and another wearing the Liverpool strip. The mascot in Blue colours wore No.9 while the mascot in red colours had No.6 and they stood side by side displaying 96. Everton's ball boys for the match also wore tracksuits with the number 96 on the back. Before kick-off the club observed a minute's applause and a moving montage of the 96 was played on the big screen accompanied by The Hollies classic anthem 'He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother'. Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre told Liverpoolfc.com: "I would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all the staff and fans at Everton Football Club from everyone at Liverpool for the display of support you have shown the Hillsborough families tonight. "We've always been great rivals on the pitch but off it, the two clubs have always supported each other. In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, Everton Football Club was there for us and that solidarity was on display again last week when the Hillsborough Independent Panel's findings were revealed. "At times like this, football rivalries take a back seat - something that makes this city unique and I think supporters of both clubs can be immensely proud of the way they have conducted themselves over the past days, weeks and years since the tragedy." Blues boss David Moyes also paid a glowing tribute to the Hillsborough families in his programme notes. Moyes wrote: "I and everyone at Everton stands alongside the Hillsborough families. I am a football supporter and a father and I applaud the families who continued to fight for the ones they loved. "The outcome was nothing short of disgraceful." Margaret Aspinall and Trevor Hicks from the Hillsborough Famiies Support Group were both attending the game as special guests of Everton chairman Bill Kenwright.

Steven Gerrard issued a special message of thanks to football fans the length of the country for the support they gave to Liverpool fans at the weekend following the release of the Hillsborough Independent Panel's report. You'll Never Walk Alone was played at stadiums across the divisions as a mark of respect to the 96 and in support of the city of Liverpool after an emotional week on Merseyside. During the Reds' match against Sunderland, flags were flown at half-mast at the Stadium of Light and the home side sent a message of support via the ground's big screens. "On behalf of the club I'd like to thank everyone in the city, both Red and Blue, and everyone around the country for supporting our club and our fans," said Gerrard. "It's been mixed emotions since the report came out. We're really happy with the breakthrough but it brings back memories of all those years ago.

From playing 'You'll Never Walk Alone' over the PA through to special messages on the big screen, clubs from all over the country paid their respects to the 96 this weekend. Here is our round-up of some of the tributes that took place. Arsenal: At 3.06pm during their Emirates encounter with Southampton the Arsenal supporters gave a rendition of YNWA. Brighton and Hove Albion: Before kick-off against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night, the club paid their respects before kick-off with a minute's silence for the 96. Bristol City: YNWA was played at Ashton Gate prior to the Championship clash v Danny Murphy's Blackburn Rovers. Cardiff City: The Leeds United supporters started a chant midway through the first half and were joined in unison by the Cardiff supporters who sang 'Stand up for LFC'. Norwich City: Before kick-off against West Ham both sets of supporters took part in a minute's applause for the 96. In paying tribute to the Hillsborough Families, Canaries boss Chris Hughton said: "It takes an awful lot of passion and resilience to do what they have done and campaign for 23 years." Reading: YNWA was played before kick-off against Tottenham. Sunderland: The club flew flags at the Stadium of Light at half-mast and displayed a tribute to the victims, families and survivors of Hillsborough on the big screens. Stoke City: YNWA was played before kick-off against Manchester City and both Stoke and Manchester City supporters sung the Liverpool anthem in unison. Meanwhile, supporters of Welsh Premier League side Port Talbot Town displayed a poignant banner during their 4-4 draw with Airbus UK.

The Hillsborough Family Support Group have today issued the following statement: The findings of the Hillsborough Independent Panel have finally vindicated the families in their 23-year struggle to establish the truth. However, after truth must come justice. We have spoken today to our lawyers and taken initial advice. As the families have always believed and insisted, it was the actions and inaction of those in authority that caused the deaths at Hillsborough on April 15, 1989. The fans did not contribute to the tragedy. Any blame previously laid at their door has been shown to be part of a despicable conspiracy by those in authority to tarnish the reputations of the dead, the survivors of the disaster and the people of Liverpool. This conspiracy has been revealed for what it is; a bid to avoid accountability.Those responsible can avoid accountability no longer. We strongly condemn the comments made this week by the Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police which sought once again to suggest that the fans contributed in some way to the tragedy despite the Hillsborough Independent Panel's findings. The scale of the wrongdoing and cover up is monumental and even greater than feared. It will leave an indelible stain on the reputations of those authorities in whom the public implicitly placed their trust. Looking to the future, there are three avenues that we will rigorously follow to ensure that justice for the families is finally achieved: First, the report of the Hillsborough Independent Panel clearly shows that the previous inquest proceeded on a false factual basis. Its conclusions can therefore no longer stand. We urge the Attorney General to apply for a new inquest as soon as possible. The families believe that a new inquest is absolutely necessary in order to ensure that justice may be done. We feel strongly that the new inquest should be held in Liverpool. Second, we demand a full and immediate investigation into criminal prosecutions that may be brought against all those responsible. The families believe that prosecutions must be brought not only against those whose actions caused the distress, injury and loss of life on the day, but also against those who altered the written witness evidence, spread deceitful and hurtful lies and otherwise acted to suppress the truth for the last 23 years. Finally, where appropriate, we will apply for civil proceedings to be re-opened where they may have, in the past, been dismissed or settled on a false factual basis. We will also consider launching new claims that may be now brought in light of the report's revelations. We will not disclose the details of the advice we have received from our lawyers. However, we have instructed them to write on our behalf to all relevant parties, this coming week, to ensure that the machinery of the justice system is put into motion and the families receive a fair hearing. This is the first necessary step in what we hope will be the final stage of the families' quest to secure justice at last."

Noel Gallagher paid his respects to the families of the 96 Liverpool fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough after the Independent Panel revealed its findings on Wednesday. Gallagher has always had good words to say about the city of Liverpool and its people. On May 25, 2005, to celebrate the Reds winning the Champions League, his band Oasis took to the stage at their concert in London with You'll Never Walk Alone playing in the background. Last Thursday the Manchester musician performed at the Liverpool Echo Arena with his band Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and in his online tour diary he sent a special message of support to the Hillsborough families.
