It will be interesting to see what happens next season. We're not seeing much - anything? - from APL in terms of season start and duration, fixtures, etc. etc., the clubs don't yet seem to have independent websites, and so on and so forth - it's more of a reshuffle of, and new, deckchairs so far. I don't see that new sense of rebirth and vitality that I was hoping for, the new ideas, the new momentum. Will we see an increase in members at City? We ought to, on the success theory. Unfortunately COVID-19 looks like it will be with us for quite a while and that isn't going to help.
I don't sense so far that APL personnel are capable of thinking outside the box.
I think the new broadcast deal is going to help push the APL into new thinking, as the overlords at Fox Sports HQ won't be the ones dictating the league's proceedings from now on - it'll hopefully be the APL working in tandem alongside Ten and Paramount.
COVID certainly makes launching the next era of the A-League trickier than it would have been otherwise from a logistical standpoint, but at the same time it means there's less pressure surrounding this 'transition' phase as the A-League supporter and stakeholder expectations while optimistic, are still lukewarm and bound to be more forgiving and patient if things take a little longer.
After such a great season of A-League, (as a whole, not exclusively for us) it really is the best possible timing for the passing of the baton from Fox Sports to greener pastures to take place as for the first time in almost a decade, there's actually real momentum behind the league and a genuine opportunity for growth.

Absolutely glorious. This team just finds a way to win the games that count - let the dynasty damn well begin!!
I've never been so wrong about a player in Scott Jamieson who goes down as a club legend after last night. What a remarkable redemption it's been all season, and what a game he played last night. Balls of steel when he took the ball over to the penalty spot is putting it right - what a man and what a fucking moment.
Atkinson and Tilio were absolutely flawless, Colakovski's presence upfront and assist for the Akka goal was phenomenal, Florin played a blinder, Luna hassled like a madman, O'Neill was an iron wall, Galloway's forays forward gave them problems all night and both Nuno and Griff never looked like conceding after that Barbarouses goal.
Literally everyone contributed to that sweet, sweet win and of course, Kisnorbo showed what he's made of in the end and definitely goes down a club legend as well.
Bring on the next season already. It's gonna be a hell of an off-season 😍

Do you start Nabbout and Noone knowing that way you can guarantee managed minutes?
If you bring them on as subs at say the hour mark then you might be commiting them to the rest of normal times and all of extra time, are you better off keeping Tilio and Colakovski back for that role knowing that you will have real pace and energy in the second half?
unanswerable questions really, as either approach would be acceptable
glad I'm not the manager

I wouldn't change the lineup that started against Macarthur tbh.
Noone and Nabbout both off the bench if Tilio and Cola isn't working.

Chris Beath will be the referee.
I am no referee basher nor would I ever question a referee's bias/integrity, but how is this guy so frequently lauded by the A-League for his feats? I think the refereeing in the A-League has improved considerably personally, but this guy has had nothing to do with it.
His authoritative officiating style is awful and imo, he shows little to no leniency or feel for the game, he regularly disrupts advantage plays to issue yellow cards, and his catalogue of errors throughout his time in the A-League is nothing short of frustrating to be honest.
This season was the perfect time to reward a genuinely superb, confident young ref in Alex King, although Alireza Faghani and Shaun Evans would have been good shouts too.

Can't wait for this game's inevitable COVID cancellation lol.

Connor Metcalfe is deadset one of the stories of the season.
We all saw glimpses of his talent and potential last season, but I don't think anyone could have anticipated what he'd achieve this season.
- 24 appearances for Melbourne City (2nd most, behind Tom Glover)
- 5 goals (3rd most)
- Socceroos call-up
- Socceroos debut
- PFA Team of the YearAnd will surely be named in the Olyroos squad for Tokyo.
Absolutely shattered all expectations of him this season. I hope he stays at least another season before his inevitable departure overseas.

Thank god!
I was as big a red and white advocate as any of the old Heart faithful on here but that said, it's 100% cursed. 'City' blue all the way!

Surprised this didn't sellout tonight tbh, especially with limited capacity as that usually drives up demand but hey, crazy times.
My PAX was 34 for what it's worth, I absolutely sped through Ticketek on my work break in pure fear I'd miss out but those fears were evidently misplaced lol.
Just so stoked we're able to host this. Atmosphere should be electric, even with 14,000.

Done 😎
See ya Sunday gang

Will members get a priority window for purchasing tickets?

No news yet on our gf but a few reporting crowds of 25,000 for AFL so fingers crossed.
I took the reporting of a minimum whole figure as opposed to the usual % figure as an indication that we will indeed be allowed 50% capacity as reported, while the AFL will only have 25% - just framing the maths differently so the AFL punters don't feel aggrieved since we'll still have a far smaller overall attendance anyway.

Leckie - Maclaren - Nabbout.
All locked in for the next 3 years. Has anybody else in the league ever had a front three of that ability locked in for that period of time?
Beginning of a dynasty, one hopes.

The image used of him waving, as if to say goodbye, imo does not bode well.

ohhh boy he is goneski
Although... the timing would certainly be a little strange given the week if it was bad news......

The venue and kick-off time was supposed to be declared by tonight, correct?
The silence is deafening. -

Still no official word but if it's indeed moved to Sunday, it's certainly stiff for shift/weekend workers who freed up the day.
Glad it looks like it'll be in Melbourne.

Atkinson, very closely followed by Reis and Tilio.
Without Atkinson, I don't know if we win this game. His second and third effort tackles combined with his relentless forays forward made us an infinitely better side. Reis's clearance was just out of this world and Tilio's creativity and pace was paramount.

That is honestly one of our best wins in our history.
Can't believe we won that.

So there it is, Sydney FC confirmed for the Grand Final.
The A-League corporate-bots in NSW will be unashamedly barracking against us tomorrow so that they can have their dream all-Sydney final and avoid having to deal with the headaches of negotiating the home venue should we dare win.
I hope we fucking annihilate Macarthur tomorrow. I don't value the finals series as highly as the Plate but this season, I care based on the principle. I hope we win not only because we deserve to, but because I don't want anyone else to have the satisfaction. Between losing our 3 best players this season to the Socceroos, our injuries and the debacle of playing an earned home semi-final in Sydney, I hope we rise above the adversity and send a message to Sydney FC.
Fuck 'em all. Go City.

Socceroos' next qualifying group announced in 30 minutes.
I'm thrilled that we can't be grouped with South Korea - now just hoping we can avoid Japan and we're looking decent.
