Gary Cahill will undergo a medical at Chelsea on Saturday after finally agreeing personal terms on a £7m move from Bolton Wanderers.

The England centre-half is expected to complete his transfer over the weekend before being unveiled as André Villas-Boas's first signing of the midwinter window early next week.

Chelsea's offer for the 26-year-old, whose contract at the Reebok Stadium was due to expire in the summer, had been accepted by Bolton soon after the market opened, only for talks between the player and his prospective new employers to drag.

A compromise has been struck over his salary – believed to amount to some £80,000 a week – and the defender could renew the centre-back partnership he has enjoyed with John Terry in the England side when Villas-Boas's team visit Norwich next Saturday lunchtime.

This is a good laugh.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has dismissed suggestions that he would consider taking Fernando Torres in exchange for Luka Modric.

Chelsea tried unsuccessfully to land Modric last summer, but they are still linked with the Croatian star.

Redknapp, who insists he wants Modric to remain at Spurs for the long-term, has now been credited with a possible interest in Torres.

But he has bee quick to play down talk of any potential deal for the Spaniard, insisting he can see him returning to his best at Chelsea.

Torres has failed to impress since his move Stamford Bridge, but Redknapp does not envisage any sort of move.

"No I have never heard that one," he said when asked about a potential Torres-Modric swap.

"I think Torres is starting to look the player that we all know he can be, the player he was at Liverpool - he is a top player no doubt that about it.

"But there is no way he is coming to Tottenham and no swap deal in the offing for Luka Modric, I think they will get the best out of him."

Mark Hughes given 50 million pound war chest to keep QPR from dropping back into Championship mediocrity.

He's already picked up Alex, is keen on Pienaar, and Demba Ba: but not sure he'd leave for cellar dwellers when half the top 10 are in for him. Money talks, I guess.

Will be interesting to see who they pick up.
