Australia go straight through to the finals as hosts along with Japan (Reigning champions), Sth Korea (3rd place in 2011 AFC Asian Cup) and Nth Korea (2012 AFC Challenge Cup winners). So the FFA decides that Canberra has a strong enough football liking population - has a good enough football stadium to host the Asian Cup, yet doesn't think we're ready to have an A-League team.
