    Hopefully Hall partners Good, he looked good when in CB

    I think Hall is decent but something has gone wrong with recruitment if he is the starting centre back imo.

    On Souprayen, felt like the first 60 minutes he struggled but picked up towards the last 30, wonder if it was the artificial grass as I thought he looked decent against the nix.

  2. By the looks of it the "Reserved Seating" sections are selling well, Cat B & A are doing ok. Away Bay & Active Bay are both about the same which is a little concerning

    Should have said but this is for the Ventforet game, the Buriram United Reserved Seating is selling really well which is good to see as that is just under 2 months away

    You do make good points about Lam and Behich not having like for like replacements. Definitely don't feel like our defence is overly strong at this point in time. Bos a big loss and Behich should be pretty solid in that role. Talbot is a good RB but definitely feel the CB next to good is not a confident nod to any of our available players at present...

    As the old saying says forwards win games defences win titles

    If we need three visa centre-backs then we've stuffed up our signings.

    How? It more shows the lack of Australian defenders available on the market right now.

    Are you overlooking Jordan Hall? Opinion seems to be that he's looked competent this season so far. We already have two visa centre-backs in Reis and Souprayen.

    I know we already have 2 visa centre backs but Lam has never been properly replaced and in the starting XI is the obvious position to sign. I like Hall and think he has done a decent shift when he has played but if we lose Behich to injury then Souprayen comes in there and suddenly we only have 3 senior centre backs

    Interesting list... if we get another Visa defender that would make 3 visas used in the first third. Who would you play and who would you bench?

    Italiano as a depth CM?

    Souprayen will be on the bench, also will be backup Left Back as well, Nuno is still decent but still think we can improve with the last visa slot on proper starter, there was clearly a reason Lam was brought it last season and we are yet to replace him.

    Italiano is more of a winger than a CM

    Yes. He was far from pleased we signed Aziz. Now he wants out as he wants to be a starter and is sick of being a bench player. He is looking for options elsewhere and there's about 3 or so A-League clubs that I believe he is currently negotiating with...

    It is a tough one cause he is good but whichever young full back we have had, the club would rather start them ahead of Galloway. If he is leaving then that probably means we will need a new RB then

    Sulemani/Caputo are both centre forwards

    Feel like we still need a centre back and a backup winger

    I think it's cause is that we've had so many players leave and if Good goes to India as well there's another hole in the fabric of the team. Those players you mentioned though remind me of some we've had previously both long and short term. Young reminds me of Galekovic, filled a hole for a year and now we wouldn't claim him as a City player. Ugarkovic is more a journeyman, I think in time we might feel the same for him as say a Jamo or a Griff, players who both had history with a number of other clubs. Antonis I feel might be the sort of project player who flourishes and we turn around his career. A bit like Nabbout actually. The other pick ups Lopane and Schreiber look ok, looking forward to the new visas as well most looking alright and I'm hoping we see more time for the younger guys, Caputo etc. I'm actually the opposite I'm feeling a little renewed this year, like it's a new leaf, new team and looking forward to see what unfolds during the season

    Don't think Good will be going to India

    Well, it was a very pleasant afternoon of football that reminded me of the pleasures of football in bygone years. A small lunch, making our way to the ground as a couple of friends should, settling in to our seats, chocolate biscuits at half-time, and home again for tea. An idyllic Sunday afternoon at a small suburban ground basking in the chilly afternoon sunshine, a stadium that made me think that perhaps we could pay a little more attention to basic facilities such as main exit gates that could open at the conclusion of the match instead of keeping the crowd for 15 minutes penned behind fencing more suitable for Guantanamo Bay. And perhaps a public address system, although the silence was better for the ears than the incessant babbling at 100dB to be endured at AAMI Park.

    The match started as a Sunday afternoon match should, Curtis Good forgetting that he was not out for a leisurely stroll with his dog but playing a match in a competition the winner of which will play in the Asian Football Federation Cup next season. From the resulting corner Oakleigh were 1-0 up after just 32 seconds. Inability to get the ball away from set-pieces threatening the City goal was going to be a feature of the afternoon. Oakleigh defended well, broke quickly, and had the City defence in all sorts of bother all match. The centre pairing of Good and Reis looked in trouble for pace, but Hall and Talbot stood up well, the latter a continual threat down the left flank and getting plenty of rough handling, but seemingly the referee had jammed the zip on his yellow card back pocket. City gradually took control in midfield where Arslan stood out as did Jakolis on the right wing, but failed to really create a goal-scoring opportunity.

    Max Caputo was introduced for the second half and began to make his presence felt by the Oakleigh defence. An unmissable hand-ball in the area was a gift for City, and Arslan put the resulting penalty away neatly. The midfield was working hard but again the goal-scoring opportunities were not being created and eight minutes later Jamie Young and the City defence made a complete hash of a corner and Oakleigh were deservedly ahead again and City were staring down the barrel of an embarrassing defeat until another hand-ball in the box gave them a lifeline with a second penalty. After mind-games from the Oakleigh goalkeeper, only ended when a wet sponge from the Oakleigh trainer cured what seemed at first to be a career-ending leg injury, an unfazed Arslan put the penalty away even more emphatically than his first.

    With just seconds remaining in time-added, Terry Antonis finally found space on the left and crossed beautifully for Alessandro Lopane to put the ball into the roof of the net for City's winning goal. Daylight robbery if ever we were to see it.

    All that said, my take on the match:
    - Oakleigh did themselves proud;
    - Jamie Young is not the answer in goal;
    - Our defence needs stiffening because we could not deal properly with any dead-ball situation threatening our goal;
    - Our new recruits are solid, but we have to solve this problem of sterile possession and failure to create good goal-scoring opportunities;
    - It's polite to say that JMac was invisible during the first half. Caputo was more visible in the second, but no-one's going to score if we can't set up the ball properly for them.
    - Mathew Leckie doesn't have the close control necessary when the opposition plays a close-press game.

    Plenty of work for Vidosic to do before the next round, scheduled for 27-30 August. Quarter-Finals 16-17 September. If we make the QF how we're going to play then when our first ACL match 18-20 September is going to be a challenge!

    Quarter Finals are from the 13th I believe so gives us at least 5 days until the ACL starts, assuming we make the QF and are fixtured appropriately.
