  1. As someone who until recently lived in Ballarat I think this is a clever move by the club. Ballarat is an untapped market for supporters. It is close enough to Melbourne to easily catch the train down for matches but neither heart or the other team had until this point made any real effort to attract support, apart from a couple of token friendlies, and as such most people I know have not made any real commitment to either team. I agree that it's a shame that city's first competitive match will be outside of Melbourne, but I think that it will work out for the best if it creates a connection with a sizeable and growing town just 70 minutes down the road. No need to worry about parking either, Ballarat on a Tuesday night isn't exactly busy.
  2. I know that the St George's Cross is off the flag of Melbourne and everything but I'm not sure that I could bring myself to wear anything which looked so English.
  3. This would make for an odd season, it would be sad to play not only away from the lane but away from London altogether. http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/tottenham-could-play-home-games-at-ipswich-or-brighton-while-new-stadium-is-being-built--as-spurs-rule-out-white-hart-lane-stay-9578497.html I really hope I get a chance to make it to the lane before it's rebuilt, but those interior plans with the single stand do look brilliant. Shame they can't be made safe-standing though. Yeah, doesn't really seem right to possibly be playing home games away from not only your own ground but out of the CITY! Ahem, ahem! From what I can remember, I think the original idea was to build adjacent to WHL so that during the final season they'd only be missing one stand which would be knocked down while they added the final stand to the new stadium. I could have that wrong though. It was my first day overseas, after flying for the very first time, all the way to London! But I'd definitely get to The Lane before it goes. A truly great oldschool stadium. Nice and cosy, with so much character. It'll be sad when it's gone. Yes, I remember something like that being on the website but I just checked and it seems to have gone. Surely we could get a ground share going with another London club, theres so damn many of them. Did you only make it to the one game against Liverpool? The new stadium surely wont match it but the extra cash will be very helpful.

  5. Yeah, I don't agree with you there. I thought some of those performances were shocking, in particular the 6-0 at man city and even worse the 0-5 at the lane to Liverpool. Those alone were enough for me. I also didn't think that we showed much going forward at times, a lot of 1 goal wins. I agree, they were terrible. But a few games is no reason to sack a manager in my opinion. We need to build the future of the club; there's no direction at the moment. AvB offered a direction and a focus, albeit with many mistakes along the way. You certainly don't get anywhere sacking your manager every 6 months thats true. Hopefully Pochettino is that manager for us. I dont think AVB could've been that manager but he and Bale did give us some great photos

  7. Really? I'm not.As long as our signings last season click I think we'll be fine. But that's a big if. In fairness though there are good signs coming out of the club with Lloris resigning and Vertonghen talking up the new manager. I suppose I was a bit drastic with my comment before.Lloris and Vertonghen are our two best players, so that's a good sign. As for last year's signings: - Paulinho: Proven himself already. - Chadli: Came good at the end of the year and showed his versatility, playing wide, trequartista, and in central midfield. - Soldado: Hopefully a good off-season can give him some confidence, because he's a great finisher on his day and hasn't shown it at Spurs yet. - Capoue: Dogged by injury, but was good in midfield when he played and even slotted in at centre back when needed. - Chriches: Was very good most of the time he played. Should be a good fit again. - Eriksen: Top-5 player at the club right now. - Lamela: Was very quiet last season, but I think he'll come good. Was outstanding at Roma the year(s) before. No ins yet this year, but Livermore out is interesting. Was never completely out of his depth at senior level, but we have probably got too many central midfielders, so it makes sense.I think Holtby will follow Livermore out the door for similar reasons, I hope it's only on loan again though because he seems like such a great bloke and I think will come very good. If Paulinho can play for us like he (usually) does for Brazil that would be great. I think our biggest holes at the moment are at the back. Rose really isn't good enough to play for a team pushing for the champions league and I would love to see us buy Caulker back. We never should have sold him in my opinion.Holtby is easily good enough to be in the team. Would be stupid to get rid of him. Plus, the bloke actually has some fire in him and tries a lot. Agreed on defence. Where would you fit him in the team though? 4 of the players you mentioned above play in the midfield plus Dembele, Sandro and Young Tommy Carroll if he doesn't go on loan again this year. That's a lot of players to fit on a team which usually plays 3 in the middle. Who would pick for your starting midfield? Honestly, you rotate. Our best three is probably Paulinho, Eriksen and Dembele or Sandro, but you change it weekly for different needs. Paulinho does everything, so he's pretty much a lock. If you need more run, you throw in Holtby. If you need more class, you keep Eriksen. If you need more power, you bring Sandro in. If you need passing and attack, you bring in Dembele. If you need more defensive cover, you have Capoue. Tommy Carroll won't be regular but will have a few games here and there. Bentaleb can go for all I care. Didn't like him. That makes good sense. Against the top teams toughen up and against the weaker ones play say eriksen with Holtby or Dembele to get that extra movement going forward. Those were strange times indeed when Bentaleb was starting. Sherwood was an interesting man.

  9. I'd love to see them try to play on it in the middle of a Swiss winter too.

  12. As a spurs fan new to this forum, I just wanted to say that I'm fucking terrified of what ARSEnal will do to us this season.
  13. Yeah, you'd hate to have Zadkovich on your team if you were playing up there..
  14. I've seen racism in all sports I've ever played or attended to differing degrees. There haven't been any particular incidents that have gained media attention like there have I'm the afl recently but I don't think there's any harm in launching a campaign even if racism is a minor issue in the sport, particularly considering the racial basis of many of the old nsl teams and how the league is trying it's hardest to stop anything like that happening again.
  15. Swiss village side FC Gspon's stadium is the highest in Europe. Built on the only available piece of flat land it is so high that normal cars cant work and the players have to travel up via cable-car.
