  1. A few weeks ago people were saying that the club had no ambition. Didn't want to win silverware. That 'breaking even' was more important.

Now we're showing some ambition. But still copping criticism.

    Some people are never satisfied.

Some people like to complain for the sake of complaining mate, I hear ya.

  2. Well, you could sense there was some issue with the deal in the very first article that broke the story:

"But confusion surrounds the deal as a press conference for tomorrow has been called off."

Interestingly, this seems to contradict this morning's claim that Kewell disappeared only 2 hours before the press conference. Looks to me like there were problems before then.

I don't think we can trust any articles or "sources" until Munn, Kewell and Melbourne Heart all confirm that the signing has taken place, too much media spin and too many fabricated stories going around at the moment.

  3. I'd love to know how much this guy's initial price would be on A-League's official fantasy comp. Heskey was $227k and Del Piero was $242k so Holt should be around $275k I reckon.

I'd say he'd be on par with Heskey (not in real life of course) as the fantasy comp often underrates and overrates some players almost seemingly at random ahaha

  4. I can't believe this... well I sort of can, but I still don't want to. If he was serious about signing for us, there's no way he would have pulled out of the confirmation interview 2 hours beforehand.

...once again, this reeks of the Lucas Neill situation :(

  5. A quality midfielder who can dictate play. We have been missing a playmaker since Heart was established. There are two players who can lift the clubs profile and on field performances. Ronaldinho or karagounis fit this criteria. Having said that not sure that they are realistic options.

Karagounis is realistic, Ronaldinho is beyond our grasp and financial capabilities I would have thought.

Still, Holt would be a fantastic signing and definitely worth 1 mil a season. Would score 20+, I'm sure.

  6.

Now announce karagounis so we can make headlines. Membership will exceed 10k. Come on Munn

Karagounis? LOL!!! Do we really want a 36 yr old who scored only 1 goal for Fulham playing for us?

Came runner-up in their player of the season award to Berbatov after only playing half a season, he's quality.

  7. Very happy. The only query I have that someone has already mentioned but no one responded to. What would happen if the Socceroos didn't qualify for the World Cup. All this before Harry would even pull on the red and white?

I'd like to think he'd still play 1 or 2 good seasons with us.

...surely we'll qualify though, it'd be a disaster if we didn't.

  8. A lot of whingers this morning!

Harry Kewell is an immense signing and if he's under the salary cap at the reported 48k, then what the hell do we have to lose? We'll still get our marquee, we have a bloke who will bring our crowds to at least 10k, increased media interest which will encourage more fans, more memberships, more shirt sales and most importantly; a hungry and supremely talented attacking player who is one of Australia's best of all time.

Sure, we all bagged him out when he was at Victory as supporters do but if he joins with us then we should be supporters and support the bloke. Personally I don't have a problem with him having played for Victory seeing as though he was the one who walked away from them :)

    I just do not comprehend.

Fan wise Geelong and Ballarat would have yielded fans that would come down and support the club once work went into those towns. Every week. Attendance and membership.

Ballarat is a great football town with huge finances put into new facilities for the Ballarat Red Devils in the budget. I visited these facilities and it's top notch. Will be a fantastic community hub.

Knowing this and Geelongs love of the game, two massive regional markets we could have capatilised on. To bring fans to AAMI Park. Every week. Have a special regional membership for these guys. Maybe team up with our sponsor Public Transport Victoria and give them free train trip on match days for members? Think for crying out loud.

I will get accused of being negative, whatever. Our club make bonehead decisions most of the time. A lot of membership ideas told to them that have never been utilised. This just another one.

Like their borderline useless community initiatives, this Albury one is another. Work smarter. Could of put all our resources into Geelong and Ballarat. Would have been more beneficial than anything the club are doing now.

So coming to Albury is a "useless community initiative"?

As I said before, there is a massive football following here but many have not been exposed to the A-League before so explain to me how trying to capture that market isn't a smart idea?

I think people are suggesting that it is a fair way to travel for people in Albury/Wodonga to make it to a Heart game live, where as it is 1 hour roughly from Geelong and Ballarat,

This is in terms of building a supporter base.

I realise that but that's kind of what I'm trying to say, if I lived in Geelong or Ballarat then I'd be able to go to every Melbourne Heart home game and I would think any passionate football fans from Geelong and Ballarat would too. But as I'm in Albury/Wodonga, I can't do that every week so by playing a game out here Heart is engaging a lot of football fans of which many don't yet follow an A-League club and this regional game might entice them to do so.

Obviously the same could apply to Geelong and Ballarat but I just think reaching out to a largely ignored area where football is strong is a good move from Heart.

You'd be surprised how many people do travel to Melbourne from Albury/Wodonga if they're given a reason to, it's not like we have a lot to do here :P

ok good points made, i can see where it would be good for both cities and even so the one which may be further away

I'm not trying to bitch and moan about how great Albury/Wodonga is because I'll be honest, as a place to live it kind of sucks :D

There are advantages for Heart playing anywhere in regional cities I guess, the more people we get on board the better :)

  10.

Are there any grounds with seating in Albury, or is it all standing?

Lavington Sports Ground (an AFL oval) has a capacity of 15,000 with around 1500 seated so that might be a viable option but otherwise nothing really springs to mind.

    What about John Howard Reserve?

    Whereabouts is that? :P

Reckon our regional game will be Albury then. Which is a bit shit.

I live 5 minutes away from Albury so it works out for me :)

Not exactly sure where they'd play it though, Albury doesn't really have any state of the art stadiums...

FFS it takes even longer to get Albury by train from Melbourne than it does to get to Aberdeen from Glasgow. (4 hours insetead of 3 hours)

You're telling me! Haha, plus the Melbourne to Albury line is more often than not delayed by up to an hour or more.

Should get a solid crowd though and hopefully more members, I know a lot of people in the area who are big football fans but don't go to A-League games so hopefully this will help to convince them :)

yeah they kept fucking up the track works. I hear trains have had to slow down again.

Id say they would play at Latrobe Uni in Wodonga, they have purpose built facilities there for football. Its where they host the grandfinals

Yeah, that was where they played the pre-season game a couple of years back when Heart won 3-0 :P

That's Wodonga though, if it's in Albury then I can only really see Jelbart Park.

  14. The Albury game looks like it's ours, against Perth Glory 9th February.

Western Sydney's TBC game is an 'away' game against Perth.

Sydney do not appear to have a TBC game at all, with 14 home matches at Allianz Stadium. That may be a mistake by FFA.

Looking at the fixture, I'm going to guess that the confirmed regional games are Heart vs Glory at Albury, Brisbane vs Newcastle at Townsville and Central Coast vs Wellington at North Sydney with the other TBC's obviously yet to be confirmed.

  15. Is there any reason to think the Albury game is us and not WSW/Sydney?  It isn't even in Victoria, and most of the other info on that screenshot is about NSW.

Well firstly, Albury's closer to Melbourne than Sydney is by about 250km and secondly, Heart have been to the Albury/Wodonga region before and even played a pre-season game against the best players in the local league a couple of years ago so my bet would be us.

It'd be the TBC game vs Perth, right?

  17. any truth to the schwarzer and darren bent rumours?

Bent would win the golden boot by about 10 goals providing our midfielders gave him enough service, such a good finisher!

I don't reckon Schwarz would come here though, he's said time and time again he wants to keep proving himself at the top level which realistically is the EPL.

  18. Munn on SEN now. JA is on annual leave in Paris ATM (not scouting or anything, @ Disneyland with his kids apparently)

JA caught up with JVS in Holland and had a look at a few players as well as a look at some English players.

Says our marquee won't be as big as ADP but more of the Ono ilk.

Also said we've talked to a high profile player who played in the premier league this season... Was difficult to negotiate salary but...

PLEASE be Karagounis, he's of the Ono ilk isn't he?!

  19.

Big Harry Kewell announcement today apparently.

Surely not. He better be signed to carry the drinks and nothing else

I reckon he deserves a bit more respect than that, he's still got a bit to give but I do hope we don't sign him as a marquee if we do get him.
