On Twitter they said it would be on our site too. Think it's a like 1am though unfortunately.

Not sure how we'll go, we're missing a lot of players to international duty and our visa players have gone home.

Yep it'll be a tough game, especially with so many key players from the W-League season not apart of the squad. The match is probably a development opportunity for young players first and foremost.

Montemurro raring to go against Man City

17 February 2016

Melbourne City Womens coach Joe Montemurro cannot wait to take charge of his side against sister club and heavyweight Manchester City in Abu Dhabi.

The club have spent four days in Abu Dhabi and Montemurro believes the match is a unique insight as to just where the club stands on a professional stage.

“Because we have a younger squad and younger players travelling with us, it’s great they get the opportunity to see pros – real professional players who are playing at World Cup level and high levels,” Montemurro said.

“They have been exposed to it through Matildas and also through some great European players. They’ll be playing against some of the best players in the world, which we think is important for their learnings to become great footballers.

“It’s been a bit of a mix of getting the training priorities in but also making sure the girls are relaxed, we’ll prepare the best we can for the game and we’re looking forward to a great experience.”

Montemurro also believes the professional set up by Manchester City only further backs what they're trying to achieve in Melbourne.

“I think it’s an extension of the professional standards we set throughout the season and the high standards but also the possibility for the players to aim high at the international level,” he said. “They get exposed to international football and it is part of the holistic program we are trying to put together.

With both MCWFC’s meeting one another for the first time in the warm surroundings of Abu Dhabi, Montemurro believes the chance to connect and share insights with their English counterparts will help showcase women's football on the global stage.

“I think an experience and to solidify a bond with the Manchester City women’s team and just to show it’s a global experience for the girls, I think the workings and the findings which will come out of this tour will be amazing," he said.

“It’s been absolutely amazing and an amazing experience for the girls, we thank everyone for organising it and especially to FBMA.”

"Jackson will provide viewers with a unique insight into the historic clash by wearing a microphone during the match; an experience the midfielder suggests could be incorporated into W-League matches in the future.

Manchester City's dedicated video channel CityTV will package the content and provide it to viewers, after the match."

Another sign the City group has ideas about how the competition should be run and wants to be more involved?

Highlights are up here:

It does look like Melbourne City had rather switched off for the end of the season, though I guess that's understandable. Good test but never a competitive game worth judging both teams on.

In the meantime, I'm hoping we see a few of the Melbourne City girls loaned to Manchester for the upcoming English season, though I'm not sure how likely that is.
