Unnecessary animal cruelty in any guise is reprehensible but fark me the hypocrisy of today's outcry is mindboggling.
Do these people really believe that us "racegoing zombies" have been lobotomised by the evil racing industry so much that we are unaware that humans were subjugating animals for our own purpose?
The majority of the social media buzzfeed warriors on their high-horses (pun definitely intended) today whinging about the sad death of two animals are the same as most of the population in that they:
1) Eat meat, eggs, milk, wine etc.
2) Wear leather
3) Keep pets and feed them animal products
4) Use animal tested pharmaceuticals
5) Glue, paint, condoms, paint brushes
etc etc. the list goes on
but yet find it outrageous that horses are used for the pursuits of humans?

Yes humans use animals and a part of that is that sometimes they die as a result. Which is sad but ultimately it's reality and as for the argument "people wouldn't stand for the cruel treatment of animals they have a connection with such as: dogs, cats etc. or those they deem smarter: dolphins, whales etc so therefore they are hypocrites"... you know what? Unlike the enviro-warriors, who do the same but refuse to admit it,.... that's because I view animals and their worth differently. There I said it. A termite means less to me than a fucking Orangutan. Get over it.
Additionally, those who know me personally know that I grew up in the inner North Western suburbs. For those playing at home that means I grew up in Melbourne Racetrack heartland. A drop punt from the Valley and ten minute walk to Headquarters (Flemington). I know people who live and breathe racing: trainers, strappers, stabblehands and jockeys. I have never met one person in the industry that does not absolutely love horses. Seriously. None of these people wish to inflict harm or see their animals treated poorly. It just doesn't happen willingly and if it does these people are the exception NOT the rule.

Getting the thread back on track (such as it is):
Only kids should get a player's name on their jersey.
I personally think only kids should wear jerseys full stop. Seems very juvenile to me when I see a man in their 30-40s wearing a replica jersey. But apparently this makes me a hipster that doest properly support the club.
I agree but I will happily concede that my opinion is based around my aussie rules/AFL support upbringing. As I learnt from my old man "once you're over 25 there's only two reasons for a bloke to be wearing a footy guernsey: if you're still playing the game or pissed up on a footy trip." Nothing worse than seeing a 40 year bogan in a figure hugging tiges jumper , his fat guts on show for all and sundry to see.
In terms of football/soccer I have to admit that it doesnt bother me as much... probably due to the loose fit haha

The underlined: it is an offence 'not to vote' in Australia in the sense that you are required to attend a polling station on polling day and have your name ticked off as having attended. **as long as you are enrolled to vote**
The red: This is not considered 'not voting'. This is a spoiled ballot and just as informal voting (purposely or accidentally incorrectly filling out/numbering your ballot) is not illegal or considered an offence at local, state or federal levels. Spolied and informal (sometimes known as Donkey voting) ballots are counted in their own category and tallied by the returning officer of that polling station. It is also not an offence to encourage others to vote informally or spoil their ballot.
They are a very valid of democratic expression help to gauge the sentiment of the body politique inasmuch as they are considered protest votes or votes of disengagement/ambivalence toward the government, parties or system as a whole. Many a PhD and countless Political Science modelling is done around these ballots people think are 'wasted'. I personally believe they are anything but waste even if the people who are expressing themselves that way disagree.
