Sash
If anyone's interested in a road trip this weekend, it's on at 3pm, Sunday. Mates become rivals in Torquay friendly against Heart Denis Craven | March 8th, 2012 MELBOURNE Heart youth goalkeeper Tom Dunn will play against his junior club Surf Coast in Torquay on Sunday. Dunn, 20, was a foundation member of Surf Coast Football Club and will line up against his good friend Jack Taylor, Surf Coast's leading goalscorer. A-League soccer team Melbourne Heart will field several senior players supported by its youth line-up in the exhibition match starting at 3pm on Sunday at the new FIFA2 standard synthetic pitch behind the Surf Coast Shire offices. Surf Coast Football Club president Joe Taylor said the clash would be the biggest match ever played on the Surf Coast. "It will be great experience for our players, all young guys who will welcome the rare opportunity to play against professional footballers," Taylor said. Melbourne Heart general manager John Didulica said senior players not selected in Saturday night's A-League match against Wellington Phoenix at AAMI Park were prime candidates to play in Torquay. "We'll probably have about five or six seniors in with our youth team which has just finished fourth in the youth national league," Didulica said. "Tom Dunn will definitely be playing and he'll enjoy playing against his mates from Surf Coast," he said. Dunn began his career alongside Jack Taylor with Surf Coast playing on a makeshift ground at Bellbrae where kangaroos were often removed from the pitch before matches. The Surf Coast club has advanced through the leagues rapidly in recent times and this year will play Provisional League 1. Taylor, who has topped the club's goal scoring the past two years, 19-year-old Billy Bunce and Rhys Manning are Surf Coast players to watch in the exhibition match. Another club youngster, Luke Wigmore, will get a game against the professionals. Melbourne Heart assistant coach John Aloisi, famous for his penalty goal to get Australia into the 2006 World Cup finals, will speak at club function after the match. Entry to the match is $5 adults, children under 16 free. http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/article/2012/03/08/311671_local_sports.html

jw1739
SURF Coast players can hold their head up high, despite being well beaten by A-League side Melbourne Heart yesterday, coach Lindsay Falzon said. The region's newest club hosted Heart on its new ground in front of 500 people, eventually going down 5-1. While Heart kept all of its senior players back in Melbourne, Falzon said it was a good learning experience for his players. "It was a really good effort, overall. We had a young team in there," Falzon said. "I think out of the 22 we played, only three over the age of 25. "And 80 per cent of them were under 20." Heart's youth team had a purple patch netting four goals in a short time, but Surf Coast remained competitive for the majority of the match. “We started off very well, the first 20 minutes was 0-0 and then they scored four in quick succession, so we went into half time 4-0 down," he said. "In the second half we changed formation and it worked a treat. It was a lot more even." Former Surf Coast player, now Heart youth team goalkeeper Tom Dunn was sensational between the posts.
