If it’s true what’s the point of keeping him until seasons end?

Removing him before his contract ends implies that his appointment was a mistake.

Which in turn implies that CFG made a mistake to back Joyce in all the bust ups he had with players and coaches that he didn't like.

By letting him stay on until the seasons end CFG can spin some shit like:

"Warren played in integral role in the growth and evolution of Melbourne City and will be missed by all those at the club. His tireless efforts have laid the foundation for an exciting future at Melbourne City and we thank him for his commitment to the club and his commitment to playing the posession based football that is synonymous with CFG"

  2. He appears to be a largely ineffectual player, he doesn't have any weapons. Vidosic and McGree are far better players.

The signing of Harrison encapsulates 2 of the issues I have with City's recruitment:

1.What is the point of signing visa players who are inferior to the local players already in the squad?

2.What is the point of signing players on short term contracts if they can't make an immediate impact?

  3. I found this on the A-League Subreddit on the weekend:

I binged "Class of 92: Out of their league" which is a documentary series on Netflix about how the class of 92 bought a football club and how they run it the other day (great watch), and at one point Phil Neville scouts a young footballer (Sadiq El Fitouri) for their team (Salford City in the 5th or 6th division at the time) but the manager doesn't want him so Phil calls Warren Joyce at Man United and lands the player a trial, then Warren signs the player for two years. Anyway, long story short, in 2019 Sadiq doesn't have a contract after failing to break into FC Politehnica Iași (team in Romania's first division) so it's fair to say that after all that, fuck Warren Joyce.

Unsurprisingly, Sadiq El Fitouri is described on wikipedia as: "a sturdy defender with an athletic build "

Old Wazza certainly has a type.

  4. I you haven't already seen it, here is the piece Bonita Mersiades wrote 3 days after Stajcic was removed.

    https://footballtoday.news/features/ffa-board-confronts-their-first-governance-challenge-with-alen-stajcic-decision

Its well worth a read. Bonita actually received a threatening email from an FFA board member the day after publishing it.

Here is an article from 5 years ago where Heather Reid complains about the lack of transparency around the removal of Stajcic's predecessor Hesterine de Reus:

    The irony.

    This is ridiculous.

We actually have a great attack and can score goals more freely, and fast capable players who are naturally attacking.

Add this to our solid defence and decent midfield we will be well balanced and a real contender to silverware.

Given that Dario is now sitting in the naughty corner, we have essentially swapped Fornaroli, Vidosic and O'Halloran for Maclaren and Harrison. I see that as a decrease in quality and not anything to get particularly excited about.

    Good luck to the kid.

I’ll be interested to see how he copes at this level.

    It will be interesting.

His professional career so far (as a striker):

14 appearances (4 starts) for Yeovil Town in League 2 for 1 goal

13 appearances (5 starts) for Southend in League 1 for 0 goals

He hasn't played a competitive match since last season. I guess he has spent most of this season injured as he didn't appear for Spurs U/23s for 3.5 months between September and January.

Brattan has blossomed under Joyce. He needs a strong disciplinarian to keep the weight off him. How he'd go under a different manager I'm not sure.

He has been great, but he still hasn't reached the level he did at Brisbane under Mulvey.

Teflon John could be in a spot of bother after this result. 4-1 loss. 4th straight loss. Has fallen out with DeVere, while his defence is a shambles. I'm lovin it!

The highlights of Phoenix v Roar are hilarious. I don't know which is funnier - The roar player in the wall moving out of the way of the ball, or Adam Taggart  forgetting how to stand upright when he was 1 v 1 with the keeper. All of Wellingtons goals were a bit unusual.

or this forum is disconnected from our fellow supporters and the majority want navy.

The club and the winning scarf are getting smashed on the club's Facebook page. There is a suggestion that a lot of the votes were trolling visitor fans on Facebook.

But do Melbourne Victory have an indenity?

Literally they are the same. Only difference is that they have won more, and their colours are (a few shades) different.

I would argue that under Del Pietro the visitors have a clear identity.

On the field, they are committed to playing possession based attacking football, regardless of the opponent. Coaches who were unable to deliver this (Merrick, Durakovic) were removed immediately.

In terms of recruitment they prioritise giving spots in their youth team to Victorians. They also still give senior contracts to local NPL players.

The visitors have also managed to win 2 championships, a premiership and made the ACL knockout phase while adhering to these ideals.

City on the other hand have no discernable on field philosophy, do not give the same opportunities to local players and are far less successful on the field.

See what gets me is that there has not been once Iota of an impression that Bruno has been on thin ice since pre season. There was the penalty issue, but I saw no drop off in effort. I also cant fathom that a story like that Sydney story being kept secret since pre season.

Even if we assume the Sydney rumour is true, what are we meant to take from that article?

Sydney made enquiries about Bruno during the off season, therefore he was dropped for the round 5 match??

If the Sydney thing was such an issue, why wasn’t he dropped in the first 4 rounds?

One thing that I did find surprising at the time was Joyce having a go at Bruno in the post match presser for missing that penalty. 95% of the time I would expect a coach to protect his player. I’m still not sure if it was because Bruno was already drifting out of favour or because Joyce is that bad at man management/leadership.
