Melbourne Heart may not just play in a similar uniform as Manchester City next season, but could be wearing a near exact replica playing strip. The application to change the club's identity will include a uniform involving the same kit manufacturer and front-of-shirt sponsor as the English Premier League giants. The identity change is yet to be approved by the Football Federation of Australia but Fairfax Media understands that should the governing body accept the proposals, the club will wear a sky blue Nike jersey with Etihad Airlines as sponsor, just like its parent club. Under the proposed application, Melbourne Heart will be renamed Melbourne City, its logo will be changed and its home uniform be white socks, white shorts and a sky blue jersey. FFA chief executive David Gallop confirmed negotiations with Melbourne Heart and its owners regarding a change of the club's identity, but said there has not been a decision made as to whether Melbourne City will take form under the proposed terms. "We have received an application from Melbourne Heart/Melbourne City and are still working through our process regarding the request for a change," Gallop said. The proposed re-branding of the A-League club sparked tensions with Sydney FC over the clash of identity with a sporting brand known as "The Sky Blues" as well as earning the ire of some of the more hardened fans of Melbourne Heart. Heart's supporter group unveiled banners proclaiming "Keep Melbourne Red & White" at its final home game of the season against Western Sydney Wanderers last weekend, though a proposed name-change to Melbourne City hasn't been met with as much widespread discontent. Melbourne Heart registered the lowest single crowd attendance of the season and has traditionally struggled with average attendances. City's takeover is regarded by some involved in the process as a much-needed facelift for a club that has been dwarfed by the success of Melbourne Victory. Manchester City led the consortium which bought Heart in January and are expected to change the club's name after registering the business name Melbourne City FC with the local authorities and buying the domain name MelbourneCityFC.com.au. The English Premier League club last year established New York City Football Club, who will play in sky blue when they enter the Major League Soccer competition next year, and Melbourne are expected to follow suit. City's original kit was black & white, i'm sure the change was opposed at the time but now i cant imagine our home kit being anything but sky blue & white

That would lose all of the Latin American fans except for the Argentineans (and even then I am not sure). I doubt it, we have had many Brazilians play in them colours for City and we have a big South American following. if it was about colours, no City fan would be interested in your team as red & white is the colours of our enemy, sometimes you have to look past that

I think the best way forward would be compromise but with you keeping your own identity, id like to see you keep your red & white home kit but with a sky blue & white away kit like my avatar, that way you have your own colours and our's too. Name wise Melbourne City FC is a great name, you could be called Hearts as your nickname like Man City are The Citizens

Sheikh Mansour only bought MCFC after being knocked back from Newcastle United and Everton. Doesn't change the fact that he and Khaldoon (our Chairman) have always treated City with the greatest respect. This is not true, they bought City mainly because of the stadium and ability to extend it and cost of purchase along with how little debt the club had. (zero now) along with an already huge match going fan base and the location with Manchester being the 2nd capital, they looked at other clubs as any good business men would but decided City was the best option with the biggest potential, City also still hold the attendance record of 84,569
