Saw this posted on another forum, but someone suggested that we should get either Shaun Mielekamp or Clinton Bown on board to help with engaging fans & increasing crowds. Both of them love the game & after looking at their CV's both have a pretty impressive history of turning reasonable crowds into magnificent crowds for every sporting club they have worked for. How the club hasn't already found a way to employ either of them is beyond me, but it's something I would certainly be looking at as a CEO.

Can whoever runs the MHFC Supporter page on facebook, share the 2 latest updates on the Yarraside facebook page?

Will probably get shot down for saying this, but to be honest there isn't much wrong in what was said in the opening post. We might not all be aware of it, but there is a bit of a 'boys group' or 'terrace clique' if you will that follows our active support and makes it hard for new people to break in and get involved. You needn't look further then the way established posters on this forum often shoot down new chant suggestions or suggestions to make new banners or flags, by telling them to "go kill themselves" or posting a million " " smilies: etc. etc. which is absolutely kills any chance of us developing a larger and more pro-active terrace community. Having witnessed some of the Sydney derby first hand, I'm probably in a unique position to comment on their active support. And although it pains me to say this, the RBB are miles ahead of us in almost every department, from co-ordination, to chants, to organisation, to voice and numbers. What they had going on Saturday was bloody infectious. Having been a a somewhat regular reader of their forums since their club started (until i was banned by that dweeb mack), they have done very well to establish a decent forum community whereby new people to active support are encouraged to get involved and their ideas are well supported. Very rarely have I seen the same level of vitriol said on their forums as often gets thrown around on ours, and I think that is one of the biggest reasons as to why they are at where they are at today and why they have managed to capture the imaginations of so many. I have said it before, but I cannot stress enough the importance of having a properly run forum community is too terrace involvement and terrace life. Look at the Mongs and what they had going on their forums 7 years ago, and how that influenced their support to become probably the best in Australia. They encouraged banners to be made, they gave tips and demonstrations on how to make banners, there was mentor-ship, there was teaching of terrace ideals and terrace behaviors to the younger ones. Their forums are shizen nowadays and its probably reflected in how their active support has fallen from those days in season 2 and 3. Same could be said for SFCU aswell. If we want to get more people involved in the terrace then we need to start running this place professionally That means not turning the forum off for fun when some members go on an away trip, or closing boards down because a member lost a bet, or creating Balotelli sub-boards, or banning users indefinitely without reason, or stickying threads randomly. It an absolute turn off for people wanting to join this place and get involved. Also attitudes need to change aswell, and we need to be more encouraging and mentoring to those on here who want to get involved and make our home-end better (I don't exclude myself from this, I've probably been a cunt to newbies aswell in the passed). It's a flow on affect, and having a shitly run forum affects the ability of the terrace to grow, affects the ability of us to make better atmosphere, affects our ability to draw better crowds and ultimately affects whether our club survives and prospers in this competition or not. Will probably get called a negative cunt because of this. Like I said above, I think things can get better there just needs to be fundamental change in attitudes around here & how the forum is run. tl;dr stop being negative kents and run the forums properly

Was good to meet ya mate. You know who I am now. Make sure you get down to the Gimp next time you're in Melbourne.

Oh ho ho, we're Melbourne... never believe there's no hoooope.

That fat Peter gimp probably stole it from here. It's his favorite place for finding new 'original' chants for the NT -
Sooks about being stereotyped as criminals and junkies Next line brags about putting a Sydney fan in hospital. Doing wonders to dispel that Westie stereotype mate

If you actually favour Heart being merged out of existence, or playing half our games interstate then you're a far different supporter to what I thought you were.
-
Cannot believe what I'm reading. Kennett would probably have us merge with Green Gully Cavilers and have us play half our games down in Geelong. He is a long time support of relocations and mergers, in fact if he had his way in 1996 Hawthorn would have been voted out of existence. He has done well with the Hawks primarily because he managed to ransom the Tasmanian government up with a ridiculous deal for them to play a 3rd of their home games down there. Hardly the kind of approach I'd want him to apply to Heart. And if memory serves me correctly, it was under his watch that the Docklands Stadium project (which was originally intended to be the state's first rectangular stadium) was allowed to be hijacked by the AFL and converted into a footy oval, which probably set the game back here about 5-10 years.

I'm starting it on Sunday, so you better learn it....
Liberta per gli FB. replied to marteaux's topic in Chants
Agreed. But it's not realistic when half the terrace is underage. People can stand in the terrace and sing. Won't make a difference to introducing new chants, unless they have something to learn the chant off. Plenty of the best groups in the world have used chant sheets. There is no shame in it. I'd rather have a terrace looking Mong-ish for 1% of the time memorising off a chant sheet, if it means we can look better and sound better when supporting our side for the other 99% of the time. But that's just me. Understood. It's a chicken or the egg argument though. No-one can learn more complex chants if they're not listed somewhere. More complex chants will always sound shit & never take off if not enough people know them. Agreed. -

Introducing new chants should be a relatively simple affair. All it requires is a cross platform approach. Printed chant sheets at the game. Spamming of the tune on social media networks. Updating of the Yarraside chant app., which correct me if I'm worng hasn't been updated in over 2 years..? Then for it be taught line by line at the game, call & repeat untill ppl understand the tune/words and can carry it on their own. Ideally, there should be a PDF with all our chants listed on it on the Yarraside.net website, or at the very least a stickied thread at the top of this board where all the official chants can be listed. Atm we have nowhere listing all our current chants. I'm probably being too logical about it all though. -
I don't know how anyone could conceivably be following this club and not know that the difference between us and that Blue & Shite down the road. If you can't work it our now after 3 years, then wtf are you even doing here. Anyone who seriously wants us to change our geographical name is a cancer.

We will beat them. Vucktree will lose to Brisbane. And we will smash the tards in the derby and leap frog them in the table. Prophet has spoken.
