  1. 2013-2014:

Total attendance (No. of games): 8,734 (1)

    Average: 8,734

    Change form 2012-13: +1,665

Good figure today to use as a starting point. Was indeed our fourth largest ever crowd and second biggest ever if you disclude our first ever match and the ADP show.

Expecting a biggee crowd against WSW and am hoping we don't dip below 7k all season.

This is a good figure as i think 530 saturday limits alot of peoples ability to get to games, fridays or even saturdays at 730 are better for me to get to, or any time sunday, saturday before 730 means that people who play sport just cant make it.

I would hope this is an average or low figure for the year going on my own experience

  2. 5.30 is such a shit kick off time. Either make it earlier and have a day game or don't have it at all.

I could not attend or the mate i attend with as we both have bowls, so that counts out 2 people plus friends ect

530 saturdays is the worst time possible imo due to cricket ect and bowls for older spectators was not possible for me to get to the game

  3. So overall if it IS happening it could be (in order of personal preference)

    1. Carlton Cole (Very minuscule chance)

    2. Tim Cahill loan/guest stint

    3. Ivan Klasnic

    4. Mark Bresciano

    5. Brent McGrath (wouldn't say he is 'internationally recognised but'

Other than that I can't think of too many......

    Josh Kennedy

    Holman

    Very optomistic

  4. Glad he's signed for Franchise FC. The A-League saved his career and he's never looked to give anything back.

Terrible bloke who is ashamed of his roots or misguided, both to the detriment of his Socceroo career.

Can you blame him when s many in this thread as an example lack basic respect for the bloke and his abilities?

I laugh at how many people turn there nose at players who are easily A-league standard,

This being an example of such a player who has signed for one of the MLS's bigger clubs.

    Good luck to him

    Heart in Cruyff link

    August 9, 2013

    Michael Lynch

Barcelona, Ajax - and Melbourne Heart? Not names that are usually associated with each other.

But a flying visit to Australia by Heart's former coach John van 't Schip could see a link developed, at least tangentially, through the Cruyff Football coaching and academy program.

Van 't Schip left Heart after guiding the club to the finals in its second season to link up with his mentor Cruyff for a short-lived spell at Chivas Guadalajara in Mexico. He is due to land in Melbourne on Saturday.

The coach, a former Ajax and Holland national team star, has family in the city. But he is also planning to visit Heart to talk to his successor John Aloisi and to look at the potential to establish the Cruyff Football coaching set-up in Australia, with Heart acting as an A-League link.

''John will be dropping in to see how things are and to offer advice or bounce ideas off if needed,'' said Heart CEO Scott Munn.

''We have been talking to him about developing the player pathway in Australia and we will be talking about potential opportunities with Cruyff Football.''

Heart has always had a strong Dutch link courtesy of its founding coach and the club will look to Europe to fill one, if not both, of the two remaining foreign player spots on its roster for the 2013-14 season.

    makes sense,

schip looks after development and youth with link to the cruyff academy!

To extend on this a little bit i google said academy,

    http://www.cruyfffootball.com/expertise/johan-cruyff/

As a coach, Johan Cruyff began forming future stars in creating the Dream Team of Cataluña. Under Cruyff’s charge, FC Barcelona won an unprecedented four league titles and the club’s first European Cup (Champions League) in 1992 at Wembley. He influenced a generation of greats such as Pep Guardiola, Dennis Bergkamp, Marco Van Basten to name a few. With a strong belief in home grown talent and a football academy philosophy that nurtures technically dominant and tactically intelligent players, Johan Cruyff would through his vision set the stage for the game we see today. Johan Cruyff put into the place the foundations of two of the most respected youth academies in the world – “La Masia” of FC Barcelona and the “Toekomst” of Ajax.

Sounds pretty exciting if we can do something like this to accelerate the development of our youth system.

  6. john carew would be alright.

just quietly has anyone actually SEEN richard porta play? he's done well over in sth america but the standard of football isn't great. Shall I assume you have watched a lot of South American football? I personally have not though his record in Uruguay was outstanding, and as far as available strikers that are affordable and realistically a chance of playing for us he is right up there.

My Argentinian housemate never thought much of his clubs when i mentioned this to him when he was in teh news a couple of months back.

  7. Just remember 12 months ago Morphine, you would have thought Topor Stanley, Beachamp, Bridge, Covic and Haliti all had limited days left in the A-League because these players were at the bottom end of the Australian system, couldn't consistently cut it at this level. Then you bring in someone like Tony Popovic who's structures and coaching ability is first class. Now the names above are all members of a premiership winning team.

Covic was wanted by Postecoglu but they had signed Velaphi too long and coulnt afford another keeper of his billing was my take.

  8. lol at the club tweeting about this as if we're supposed to get excited about it.

It's hardly an achievement to have 1 player in the team after so many have pulled out, especially when there is only 10 teams in the league anyway.

    who gives a fuck?

10 teams and 15 odd players total....isnt alot more than 1 for a good team on average

  9. With the potential for a glut of midfielders, would anyone be surprised if we played 3 at the back? I wouldn't.

As to names being thrown around, wasn't it mentioned that JA spoke to 7 players in Europe. We know of Wieleart, Holt, maybe Jarosik, but who else?

I cannot say if this was true or not, i would hope we spoke to more tbh, but unless we got 3 main targets early then there was no need, and they are just drip feeding us so as to extend exposure over the long off season, which i think is very likely.

  10. Really would go nuts if we signed 2 20-25M players obviously. i think that would take us a long way. Higuian and Fellaini as Rumoured would do the trick, i think we had the second best defence in the PL last year, in goals conceded anyway. just need that DM and clinical finisher which i think Giroud could grow to be but i wouldnt want to take that risk either.

Thoughts all the rumours are nice i just hope Arsene isnt i tight ass again like usual, no point buying 4 or so 12M players we dont need 4 players, we have a good squad just need that top end world class talent in the starting 11

  11. Irn Bru is the greatest drink, love it

What is the latest with Hearts? funny how the Scots dont fully get behind the SPL, among other things wrong with Scottish football atm. Youth development ect. National Team.

Anyway just goes to show how we are pretty lucky atm starting out with 6-7K memberships and growing compared to some lower European leagues. It really has Baffled me how the Glasgow clubs emerged as Giants and yet the Edinborough Clubs seem to get knowhere, i mean 6.5K crowds when Celtic and Rangers grew to selling out a 40K stadium every weekend.....

I still believe there is alot of potential in the SPL and overall there model is smart with the 12 teams, and the split after they play each other 3 times or whatever they do, they just need to grow some of the clubs mainly Hibs and Hearts and Aberdeen among others. and then get a better youth system in place.

I am by far no expert though just what i take in with a Scottish father and decent interest in the SPL in general

    Thoughts?

  12.

The price increase is a disgrace.

It's called inflation. It happens to nearly everything. Think about the cost of movie tickets over time.

Inflation is legalised theft. If you make a dollar, you should be able to spend a dollar.

And yes I am aware inflation is a part of life, get used to it etc. etc.

So I'm guessing you rejected your last payrise offer?

Pay rises help with future earnings, inflation eats away at what has been earned.

    Sorry, back to the football.

They work in relation to each other.

You pay more while being paid more.

The depreciation of money over time is different,

But you earn more and pay more at similar rates i will assume.

  13. The membership price has gone up and when i asked why they said because there is 14 home gmes. I pointed out that one of them is a regional game and not at home, so therefore we only have 13 home games. They couldn't answer

    why the price increase.

It is how life works, things increase in price and value over time

  14. Also i just got a letter in the mail talking about my direct debit plan from last year, they are not officially rolling them over until 2 weeks after memberships opened to give us all the time to upgrade or withdraw.

So maybe there will be a spike of all the previous years direct debit memberships in a weeks time? anyone else get this?

  15.

Has very solid rating of 67 on FIFA. Sign him up.

Not sure if sarcastic or not since I'm not familiar with the ratings on FIFA - 67 sounds low to me...is it out of 100?

In comparison - just to get a gauge - how much is Simon Colosimo and Leighton Baines worth?

    62 and 80 respectively

  16. Now to be critical i still think Tommy oar is overrated and so is wilkshire. Bresciano our best player out there last week and this week and fails to be acknowledged accordingly by those fucks at fox sports. Archie's presence more than anything lifted the team, but I still think Archie being in the team is a reflection of the standard of the australian squad...not good enough.

    More so Milligan imo,

Liked Kruse having a great game, and Rogic looked good running at players

  17. Yeah despite my disagreements and thoughts on some people at the club and head butting brick walls over things, I have no right to not support it. The club will be around way after these people have gone. I want it to be a success.

So after the response from my last season One Melburnians who are so passionate and pumped up about the club after one season and absolutely right into the club, it inspires me to launch it again.

This time though guys, I need your help. Moreso than last year. I need a huge push to get this going and all hands on deck to help advertise and promote this.

Any ideas are welcome. I believe the club are improving in all aspects and I think 15,000 members especially now with the bandwagon God himself on board Harry Kewell.

    Lets do this guys.

onboard Melburnian, have started the chat with my mates already

  18. I made mention of Mario Gomez on the Grant Holt thread, as Gomez is not getting a game at Bayern. Would make an excellent point striker with wingers running off him. Might be a bit out of our league but...

He is still worth 10+ million, we will go after Klose before Gomez and that is a year off before his contract at Lazio runs out i believe
