  1. Personally I can't see Mooy breaking into the Man City XI under pep. The fact that no transfer figure has been announced also has me worried, I know it seems strange, and would literally be transferring funds from one of CFG's bank accounts to another. I'd be interested in the specifics on the deal's futures ie if Mooy is sold to another club, how much gets kicked back to us. To me it still feels like we are getting little out of this deal, so hoping there are some big (not Cahill) marquee announcements coming up.

  2. I hope that any further expansion only takes place in Australia. For me having Wellington in the league makes no sense at all, and I would prefer that the FFA drops them within the next couple of years to allow for a Canberra or Wollongong team. A second team for brisbane makes sense, but I'd think Perth and Adelaide need a little longer before bringing in second teams. If a third team is introduced into Melbourne, then it has to be regionally specific, such as Eastern or Western melbourne.

  3. I'm all for a new manager but do we really think he will be sacked?

He is contracted till the end of the 2016/17 season isn't he? I just doubt City would get rid of him this quickly. He seems to be part of the medium-term strategy.

I think the purpose for most people on this thread is for it to be a cathartic release, get rid of some of that tensions thats built from city playing really really shit football. Except for Tesla, this thread is pretty genuine for him.

  4. best part of the derby was the split level chants, was great to watch, and in future games when more ppl get into it it'll be great. HSV have one like this, from 2.25 in the clip below. Would also be great, but need to in the two bays involved.

Also for what it's worth, I think that we should focus on chants with minimal lyrics involved, i've downloaded the melburnians app, but it's difficult to know the tune's, and some just aren't good. I know you guys are putting together some stuff for youtube to help put with that, here's an example from my team in Germany, this video helped me out a fair bit as mien Deutsch war bedauerlich. Coincidently I used to always love the chant beginning at 2.15.

  5. It's fair too early to call for JVS to be sacked, but this thread provides ample opportunities for that over the course of the season. My main concern about JVS tactics is that a lot of people seem to imply that having heaps of possession = attacking football. Having watched JVS in his 1st and 2nd stints, his teams generally win the battle of possession, but we still generate a remarkably low amount of clear opportunities to score. Transition from defence to attack was too slow against Newcastle, they were determined to defend, but when we did win the ball from them, we passed it back to redders, or allowed Robbie or Paddy to slowly bring the ball back up. That may be a fine tactic when you're Barcelona, but no one (maybe Koren) can really unlock a defence through their passing.

  6. What really concerns me is how much the club knew about this. From what they're saying, they knew that Villa would be leaving after a couple of weeks to return to NYC, and then "potentially" coming back. The biggest problem is that if they did know this, then why do we not have another fucking striker????? Even with Villa, we haven't looked like scoring goals in the first two games...without him our forward movement is reduced to Kisnorbo and Wielaert passing the ball to each other. With Koren injured (Ok I probably can't blame the club for that) I really wonder where the goals will come from.

  7. I'd like for the club to very quickly finish off the roster and sort out the final players. I'm pretty sure that we still have around 3-4 spots left. I'm not entirely convinced by the squad that we have right not, but I do feel that with a couple of solid signings we would be looking good. I like our midfield, Mooy, Koren and Mass. If possible I'd replace Mass with another DM, but I think that more importantly the club needs to sort out it's issues at RB & LB.

I'm getting sick of the club constantly trying players there, who are playing out of position. It's just not good enough that for 4 years, that we've not once had a genuine fullback.

Germano  -  Wielaert  - Kisnorbo  -  New Signing

                          Mass/ New Signing

                  Mooy                        Koren

                                   Villa

    Duga                                                     Duff

Bench: Redder, Garrucio, Mauk, Chapman, Willo

I hope that at some point Chapman can replace Robbie at CB, and would like to see Marino get some game time from the bench. I really think that the club needs to make an effort to sign someone who naturally plays as a fullback, and even better if they could shift to CB if required in a game. A DM other than Mass would be nice, but not sure how full the cap is looking, and if we sign Kennedy as the Oz marquee then that might limit out options there.

I think we will come in around 5th/6th, I'm concerned by the back four and GK, as they let in far too many soft goals last year. Hopefully with Koren, Mooy and some better players further up field we won't be turning the ball over as much.

  9. http://www.melbournecityfc.com.au/article/match-report-five-star-city-account-for-hume/rfmubyu42bve1nk7hyg68hdxw

club report on the match. particularly loved the two references to Hoffman:

"as a marauding run from Hoffman down the right almost produced a goal"

"Hoffman's blistering pace beat two down the flank before he squared to Williams in the box"

They must read the forums and see how much we trash him.

  10.

I still think Wollongong is a viable option for expansion but it'll certainly be telling to see how full WIN Stadium is tomorrow night for the clash between the Wolves and the Mariners.

I agree, if they can pull out a big crowd the Wolves would move up to the top of the list. After the collapse of GC and Fury the FFA might be a little shy about expanding into cities with smaller populations. i.e. Hobart, Canberra, hence the talk about 2nd teams for major cities. Personally I think Brisbane could easily have a second team, and QLD def needs another one, but not the Gold Coast. Perth is growing pretty stingily a should be a contender for a second team in say 10 years.

If it were up to me, i'd expand the league after the tv deal bringing in two new teams: Brisbane mk.II and Canberra. Then after that tv deal end look to bring in another 2, maybe Tassie and Wollongong or Perth mk.II.

I think for regional cities like Townesville, wollongong and (hopefully) Geelong need to concentrate on their NPL teams for now. And in the case of Geelong getting a NPL team that represents the whole Greater Geelong region, not just some Croats from Corio or North Shore.
