Thought it would be handy to start a thread on the best starting 11, subs and coaches based on contracted players and official appointments only

As of 3 May 2012, I think it looks like this:

Coach - ?

Assistant Coach - ?

-------------------- Babalj--------------------------

Williams--------------------------------Dugandzic

---------------Kalmar--------Fred-----------------

--------------------Germano-----------------------

Behich------Good--------Colosimo----Marrone

------------------Redmayne (GK)-----------------

Bench: Hamill, Hoffman, ?, GK - ?

Unused players - ?

Bolton, Shroj, Thompson, etc have not yet confirmed as far as I know. Not sure about Mattei.

Of last year's senior squad, Bolton, Srhoj and Thompson are the ones who will be out of contract shortly. All the rest are accounted for by the releases.

Bolton is apparently close to extending his contract with us for one more year. There has been not a whisper about either Srhoj or Thompson.

AFAIK Mattei was on loan from Victory for one season as a Youth player.

Now that Zahra has been released, the list of players contracted for next season is:

Michael Marrone (re-signed for Heart for a further two years in February 2012).

Brendan Hamill, Aziz Behich, Eli Babalj, Jason Hoffman (all re-signed for the club in late December 2011).

Simon Colosimo, Jonatan Germano, Fred, David Williams, Nick Kalmar, Mate Dugandzic, and Curtis Good (all continuing on pre-existing contracts).

Andrew Redmayne (signed from Brisbane Roar in January 2012, and due to join Heart after the completion of Brisbane’s ACL campaign).

---Behich --------Germano----------Marrone----

---------Hamill-----Colosimo----Good------

^ my take on things.

Behich and Marrone continue their tireless work up and down the wings.

Babalj keeps on banging in the goals.

of course, this formation changes if Goodwin resigns with us.

but we're not playing a game tonight.

"If we played..." this is a hypothetical dude, based on what we know at the minute....and in theory the team options should improve over time as more signings are confirmed....its a long off season !!

maybe you need to change your diet to more fish (rather than your namesake) in order to improve your mental capacity :P

Pretty sure he does have one year remaining.

I also find this thread very stupid, but w/e I'll bite

Best 11:

Bolton

Marrone - Colosimo - Good - Thompson

Germano

Fred - Thompson

Mate - Babalj - Behich

B: Redmayne, Hamill, Kalmar, Williams/Hoffman

Fuck, for a squad with almost half the salary cap free and 7 spots open, that is pretty fucking solid.

We are only 2-3 top signings away from a real title challenge.

Really hoping that Redmayne pushes Bolton all the way for the No. 1 spot. IMO we still have three players in the squad - Williams, Hoffman and Kalmar - who need to lift substantially to be pushing for inclusion in the match-day squad. If we are going to be competitive - and I mean top four (becasue nothing else is satisfactory) - then a lot is going to depend on the additions to the squad still to come.

Before our new International Signings are announced this is a fairly futile exercise:

As shown by that with the sides above as soon as Fred or Thompson got injured this side would not win another game probably all season...

Before our new International Signings are announced this is a fairly futile exercise:

This thread is the telling of a story on how the squad (and the best starting 11) evolves over the coming months till season kickoff AND it is based on actual contracted players and official signings. If you think its futile, not sure why you would even bother reading and posting in the thread...

Bolton

Germano - Colosimo - Good - Thompson

Marrone

Fred - Kalmar

Dugandzic - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Behich

Williams

RB: Germano looked good at RW when he played there last season, and is a good crosser of the ball which is Marrone's weakness as a full-back.

LB: Thommo struggled in the middle late last season and while at NJ was a standout at LB.

DM: Marrone has a brilliant engine, good technique, strong tackler. Perfect for a holding midfielder, and he starred in the position for AU

LW: Behich has been a good LB, but has all the attributes to excel as a winger.

* Would hope we sign a quality striker & central midfielder as Williams & Kalmar aren't ideal, also if there is a top quality winger available that'd be high on the priority list too *

Marrone quit Adelaide because he wasn't being played at full back. Ironiclly Cagliari whanted to sign him as a mid. :P

Otherewise if we lined up tommorow that is exactly how I'd set-up, but being a pre-season game you MUST have Hoffman there.

I'll be interested to see how a fully fit Kalmar goes this year. Missed basically the whole of last season with injury I think. I saw him play about half a game in the NYL near the end of the year and I thought he looked good. Well above that level anyway. Can play as a midfielder but can get in the box and score as well. Looks more likely than Hoffman at least.
