Rumour: Emily van Egmond to Melbourne City.

Hidden down the bottom of the article:

"In other news, The Covert Agent can also reveal Matildas midfielder Emily van Egmond will join Melbourne City for the upcoming W-League season.

City failed to make the finals last season as they finished fifth with van Egmond set to join their ranks having previously played for Newcastle Jets.

While her immediate future now lies in Melbourne, the Australian is also in talks to join French club PSG when her W-League commitments come to an end."

Is the W-League going to be run by the Independent Commission? If it is ever to take off in Australia it has to be a lot stronger and longer competition than it is now, and teams need to have a genuine accessible home ground and sensible KO times. Same for the NPL actually. People are never going to be enthusiastic about going to some obscure suburban field at 5.00 p.m. on a Sunday if it's not easy to get to by PT and has decent spectator facilities. And the clubs have really got to ratchet up their PR about both leagues.

In Melbourne City adjacent news, but which could have a bit of an effect on us going forward, Seattle Reign (who is the actually club that Barnes, Cartley + Williams all play for) have just been purchased by the OL Groupe, which is the mob that owns Olympique Lyonnais, whom themselves have a very good womens team. Hopefully this won't mean we don't see them back in the W-League regularly.

The talent that has walked out of our club in the last few weeks is staggering. Terrible for us, terrible for the league.
The plan to make the W League a boutique product that dovetailed in with the seppos has failed.

I know that I'll be condemned for saying it, but I actually think that football is in a big enough overall crisis that we should forget about the W-League altogether.

Will there even be a W-League in the future?

Who knows, but I found this rather interesting. Matildas look like they are gonna be baded out of latrobe uni.
