Honda was a regular marquee. The 'marquee' fund didnt preclude clubs from signing whoever they wanted; it was only that access to the funds were at the FFA's discretion in regards to meeting the criteria.

The Iranian bloke definitely wasnt a guest either, just a mid season visa signing.

I don't think "regular marquee" is quite the right description. My definition of a "regular marquee" would be a player paid for entirely by the club concerned. Honda was paid both by Victory and out of the $3m "marquee fund" set up by FFA and Fox Sports.

He was a regular marquee and not a guest player though. The marquee fund was effectively the equivalent of a government grant you had to apply for, and if you met the criteria as set by the FFA they decide how much they would contribute based on the value they thought the player brought.
The overlap is that the criteria for the marquee fund was similar to that of the guest player, and the full season guest player slot of the Cahill season.
