True Until I die
Im pretty sure ffa still have a year for hallorans contract because he was signed for two years, there would be a few gcu players who would go over for little money seeing how desperate they are
LR9
Scott Chipperfield has confirmed he is coming. Edited April 30, 2012 by LR9
Brodebec
Scott Chipperfield has confirmed he is coming. Confirmed or 'hinted'? I do think it's likely he will be there if not first season then second. The next two years will be very interesting - as a Sydney FC girl raised 15 minutes from Parramatta Stadium I welcome the rivalry but will be feeling rather shizophrenic hating the team that the FFA is pitching as my 'local' team. Particularly if they forge ahead with this ridiculous strategy of trying to capture anything vaguely West. People from where I grew up don't consider themselves to be from Western Sydney - hilarious that the FFA held a fan forum in Castle Hill, the snobbiest part of North West Sydney where you would be quickly corrected if you referred to the locals as part of Western Sydney. Libero
Whats with all the "Basketball' sounding names in this league. Its hard to fiend off A-League bashes when we have team names like 'Heart', 'Victory', 'Mariners', or even 'Roar'. Seriously FFS. Rangers would be amazing for them; i would be jealous. Jimmy
I'd take something original like Melbourne Heart over ripping off another club for the sake of creating some faux tradition like AC Melbourne, Real Melbourne, Melbourne Rangers. ffs why am I even arguing this with you?

cadete
Anyho, they will be called the Wanderers if the Fans get there choice... Which IMO is not a bad sounding name for a A League Club in the Grand Scheme of things - but I like Melbourne Heart as well so go figure. NOTE: I am kinda of surprised nobody mentioned the NY Rangers in the above conversation.

cadete
There is no significance to the name if this particular team does not actually "Wander".
Jimmy
There is no significance to the name if this particular team does not actually "Wander". AFAIK, The first ever game of football in this country was in West Sydney, hosted by a team called the Wanderers. So bam! Significance! Maybe we should have been called Melbourne Hakoah or JUST then? There is no significance to the name if this particular team does not actually "Wander". Spot on. Woody
Athletic would be least cringe worthy. Wanderers would be rancid. Why can't they just be called Sydney West? Edited May 3, 2012 by Woody
Ando
Athletic makes no sense; will they be entering teams in the national handball/water-polo/bandy/basketball/etc leagues? Nup. Didn't think so. Unlike the mighty CSKA Melburnians, they will not be a multi-sport club, so having a name that indicates as such is a little silly.
Woody
How do you know yet? They don't even play football.
Ando
Sorry if that came across as a bit cuntish. What's this 'foot ball' you speak of? I'd love to see a West Sydney bandy team actually. Imagine the fear on the ice...
cadete
Maybe we should have been called Melbourne Hakoah or JUST then? Its obviously different mate. How is it any different? Its exactly the same. This new Sydney team will NOT be doing any Wandering UNLIKE the Original Wanderers. We were NOT by Yugoslavian or Jewish Immigrants UNLIKE the Original JUST or Melbourne Hakkoah. The only difference is that one name is Non Ethnic. Imagine the fear on the ice... Speaking of Western Sydney and fear my brother played football for Granville Association for over 20 years. The number of police escorts for referees, all in brawls, whole teams being excluded for a year and life bans for players and spectators that I have seen or heard of (my Dad was a ref and part of the Association executive) is huge. Going to the football was both a lovely leisurely pursuit and living of the edge at the same time. That being said, the quality was pretty good too though! cadete
They would have to STRIKE a deal with the Brisbane Strikers to use that name anyway I am guessing as they are still around: Mine you I always thought of them as Brisbane Snickers because of their Logo.
