Nate
I reckon Macarthur is a great location for an expansion club and they've honestly done really well with the name and logo imo, I'm excited for their arrival. With them being only 45km away from Parramatta Stadium and 40km away from Kogarah Oval it sets up a two really nice Sydney derbies and then being only 55km away from WIN Stadium really sets up a strong platform for a Wollongong team to come in during the next expansion phase. It's a relatively risk-adverse choice and then with a stronger league hopefully we can get some of the more romantic types (Wollongong, Canberra, Tasmania etc.) into the competition.
jw1739
Great name. Adds a real touch of class to the League scene. Not so keen on the logo, but overall yes, really looking forward to their arrival. Wish it was next season TBH.

jw1739
I'm puzzled over the use of what looks like a bull. The region of Macarthur in NSW, south-west of Sydney, is named after John and Elizabeth Macarthur, pioneers of the Australian wool industry. I assume that the club takes its name from this region. At a casual glance I had assumed that the logo was a ram, rather than a bull, but it clearly isn't. Macarthur did have cattle as well as sheep, but it's sheep and wool for which he is famous. It's not too late to change the logo to a ram.

One is the physical power associated with bulls, and the other is because of a story dating back to 1795 when a runaway herd of cattle was discovered in the region. Nate
There's a bull on the region's coat of arms. "The golden horned ram and golden bull, in heraldic terms, are called supporters and are displayed to emphasize the wool and grazing industry heritage of the region brought here by James Ruse and John Macarthur." https://www.campbelltown.nsw.gov.au/CouncilandCouncillors/Councilhistory#The-Coat-Of-Armsnbsp-9 Makes enough sense to me.

Nate
Nice to have a club with an almost purely white home kit in the A-League but jeez, as if you'd reveal it like this instead of waiting to produce the real thing and have your players show it off. Looks like an MS Paint fan-job.

mattyh001
Federici has retired due to knee injury. back up keeper is Nick Suman (formerly of WSW for a total 5 games). Federici was captain too. hardly ideal timing, and a massive loss given how good he was last season.

NewConvert
5 hours ago, D.B. Cooper said: How much does the league and clubs make out of spot betting? Is it worth the hassle? It's not the A-League or Australian gambling companies. It's the international ones - you can bet on just about anything anywhere in the world. It is also a neat way of money laundering. It also degrades the competition. About 15 years ago the Chinese Superleague had a similar issue but the CCP took care of it by dealing with the players and refs directly - I am led to believe that a few individuals ended up pushing daisies for a "living".
NewConvert
Having some further thoughts on the cheating, I hope that the club and the officialdom of the A-Leagues reach out to the younger players. Regardless of their talent, most of them have busted their arses to get a game and only to be let down by their captain and senior players that should know better. Having said that, maybe we can poach Rafa back again to fill the gap left by Jakolis.

Yes, I know that Mexico is in North America, but I'm thinking of players from the Spanish-speaking countries, which, I think, is all of South America except Brazil, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guyana (the last three having official languages English, Dutch and French respectively)? Part of this problem may be that as a country we simply cannot afford more than four full-time professional football clubs. Perhaps the future also can allow for clubs to have part-time professional players? In the end we have to cut the coat according to the cloth. The other thing that I cannot get out of my mind is that the vice-Chairman of our club, Simon Pearce, someone who is not known to have any public utterance whether oral or written on record for 10 years, is one of the Directors of APL, which has overseen this debacle. My belief is that CCM have a Colombian player who is currently stood down because he is facing serious allegation of sexual assault (Torres) and they have a Brazilian as well. The majority of players from Latin America tend to be from Brazil with City just having returned a Chilean player (whose name I already forgot), WSW also have a Brazilian and Colombian players. Not sure about the other clubs. Note that Rafa has Brazilian parents but Rafa himself was born in the Netherlands but grew up in Adelaide. Also the news was that the criminal organisation was operating right across Europe as well with arrest in all countries within hours of each other. Davila would definitely have been the entry point but I do wonder whether the organised crime cartel is from Cali, Colombia. In which case, Davila may not have been given much choice.
