You could argue that it was a miracle we led 4-2. It's a real shame, because this is the easiest pathway into Asia. I still think the excuse for Leckie's absence is absolutely piss-weak. The way I see it is that for now the young team is able to compete reasonably well against a team that had more experience. Yes, you are right that the team won't make it into Asia but I am getting the gut feeling that CFG is reeling all of its clubs back with the exception of Man City or Yokohama where they are minority owners. Glass half full: The NPL is improving which augurs well for football in general. Glass half empty: The A-League is dropping standards due to the perilous financial situation they find themselves in.

Or the fact the A-League teams are still in pre-season mode and generally playing more youth than senior players. However Mariners were nearly full strength...

Give some of these NPL clubs full time training, physio, recovery etc would give a few clubs aleague clubs a run for their money and they are only allowed 2 visa players. Most of these players would have have worked during the day as well. Edited August 8 by HughJass
jw1739
IMO the Australia Cup asks more questions than it provides answers. As a country we keep going through these assessments of what we actually want in football and what is actually achievable and most importantly, what is sustainable. The A-League places all sorts of hurdles that participating clubs must clear before they are awarded a licence. What is the evidence that all these are necessary? The League's administration has not improved what I see on the park, and has just added a layer of executives to what exists at Football Australia. Do we really need an Executive for Inclusivity and Diversity? FFS what do these people do 35 hours a week 48 weeks of the year when the league shuts down for several months in winter? Is VAR critical for the league? Is it necessary for every player to be a full-time professional? And many other questions. We seem to persist in the thinking that Association Football is the number one football code in Australia and therefore we must model ourselves on countries where it actually is. The first lesson we never learn is that we must cut our coat to suit the cloth.

Most clubs have completed their list for the season. City has three visa slots open and most other clubs are missing one to three players. And a lot of clubs have a younger list. 3 hours ago, HughJass said: Give some of these NPL clubs full time training, physio, recovery etc would give a few clubs aleague clubs a run for their money and they are only allowed 2 visa players. But they insist in maintaining their heritage, which is their right, and the reason for not granting them an A-League license.

jw1739
No interest now that we're not in it. I suspect we'll not see Asian Champions football again at City at the rate we're going. Waited all my life to see my club in an international competition and we blew it two seasons running.

He got both goals and the assist while playing as an inverted winger on the left side. We only played him on the right wing.
